Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Learned most of what I know from my grandparents when I was a kid. Supplemented that with field guides and the internet.
Make sure they at least know what stoner music and doom is.
Also, if you feel like there are red flags, best to go with your gut.

I think it was you that built a rat but well you know... Things that effect the memory.
Did you alter any stock components? I can find muff dissection after muff dissection describing how each component can impact the sound but all I can find on rats is the Reutz mod and diode switch.

On a related note. I sanded my green Russian enclosure down to bare aluminium and repainted it. Instead of going all green I decided to take a different direction. A few goofs second time around but used them to my advantage. First coat of clear has been applied. I'll do another spritz before I go to bed, but in the next day or two I will assemble. It's looking pretttttyyyy gooood.

I used better quality capacitors, and increased a couple of values. Satyrnine was a huge help, definitely ask him for advice. He's messed with the circuit a lot more than me.
What are you peoples using for cabs?
I have an older Berg NV610 and am picking up an NV215 tomorrow (both sealed). I love the punch, but wonder about ported cabs. I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are on sealed vs. ported cabs for the genre. There's a lot of low down tuning and also a focus on vintage style gear.

Right now I have three bass cabs. fEARful 1515/66/1, fEARless F212, greenboy DuallyT.
Pretty sure Ron from Bongripper has said those NV bergs were his favorite cabs ever.
Also Im running a ported 810, sealed folded 18 and a frankensteined 218 that was supposed to be sealed but ended up ported on accident, sounds great though. All peavey

Trying to trade that 200 watt fender that i dont yet have, for a 100 watt AIMS PA head, both are in the same city so the guy with the fender could juat drop it off by the guy with the AIMS. You know the ones with DEM KNOBS, freshly serviced with 2 KT88s, itll be the perfect amp for the drone setup. Even if he doesnt take the trade, i think im gonna do it, its a good enough deal anyway.

Been awhile since I've posted. I've been running the mostly harmless for a minute now at practice and I'm starting to think I miss the ol' power tubes. I'm gonna keep running it for a bit, maybe I just haven't gotten it eqd exactly how I like yet, but I think ultimately I'll end up going back to full tube amps. The big problem is I'm kind of stuck on the idea of running a stereo rig, so I'm trying to figure out if I'd want to get like an svt 2 to run with the verellen or what I would want to do exactly. What's you guys opinion?
Right now I'm using an Ampeg 810 for smaller stages and two 810s for larger stages. I have a dually and also have a second dually being made currently. Those will be my main live rig henceforth.
At home I use my B15N or a Sunn 215s with JBL K140s.
I also have a pair of peavey 215s that will live at the practice space if I don't end up selling them.
My opinion is yes. All of it.
I run a Sunn 2000S 2x15 cab. It's a very old ported cab. I like sealed, vintage voiced cabs, too, though. My sound is mostly upper bass and midrange, so I don't need super low extension that much.
Get a tube power amp to run the Mostly Harmless with.
Currently running an SWR Goliath Sr 610 with an SVT-2PRO. Cab is ported, but tight and focused in the low end. LOUD as balls too.
Jolagh, grab a used SVT-CL or 2PRO, good deals to be found on both of those heads. Or take Sartori's suggestion and look for a Mesa or Peavey rackmount tube power amp. Theyr'e out there, the Peavey ones especially can be found pretty cheap.

I usually use an Ampeg Heritage 810 with an Orange AD200 atop. If I need to use my "portable" rig I go with my Sunn Beta Bass 115 combo.
I'd stick with the Berg 610 if I was you, unless you're just looking to shake things up for the hell of it.
Or get a 2 pro and run the MH into the effects return. Best of both worlds, but not stereo
I have a sealed 8x10 and a ported 2x15 and I like both. They're just different, I wouldn't call one better than the other. The ported one has deeper lows, but the sealed has more low mids, but are more like what people perceive as low end in a mix. I don't often run them side by side, unless it's with two separate amps, because they need really different EQ.
Well, I ****ed up my muff enclosure once again. Tried to apply a second coat of clear and BAM cracking finish all around. It almost looks cool except it doesn't. I'm not sure if I'm going to redo it again or just wire the damn thing. Pretty disappointing because it was looking great. Oh well live and learn I guess.
