Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

So I finished my green whirly bird last night. Thus far, this is the best sounding pedal I've built. Med-low gain settings will be very usable for bass, and there is a ****load of more gain on tap. Also this is probably the best wiring of anything to date that I have done. Aside from the finish snafu I don't think this project could have gone better.
I'm going to have to make another... Glad I recorded the value changes I made.
For today... I'm finally going to see a dermatologist. Have a management meeting after that. Then I will return home to assemble a Rat.

I was stoked that there was finally a musicgoround in VA as I love the one back home in Wilkes-Barre. I had to be in Norfolk yesterday so I hit it up. It felt too clean and neat and not cluttered with strange stuff like I was used to. Kind of wish they choose Richmond instead of VA Beach, which I assume would probably be more dark and cluttered with strangeness like the Wilkes-Barre store.

I miss places like that. Though neither were MGR, we used to have a shop here in town and another nearby in Santa Cruz that were cluttered little buy/sell/trade shops. Filled with weird, random, old and cheap gear all the time. I got lots of my all time best pieces of gear in some of those places. Eventually they all just became shops where you could buy drum heads and strings for list price (or higher) and filled with new low end entry level gear (lots of Bronze Series B.C. Rich and solid state Ibanez practice amps) or just the usual decent mainstream gear (Mesa, Fender, LTD, Orange) at above internet prices, plus sales tax.

so do I. I enjoy the novelty/shtick of the orange tolex, but like the classic black.
I felt like the 215 was overpowering the 610 a bit last night. I'm going to try them horizontally with the 610 on top tomorrow night. Of course, earplugs dull everything as well.
I haven't played through just the nv215 yet at practice, so I'm not entirely sure. I also had the midrange driver all the way off on the 215 given that it was paired with the 610. I love that 610 cabinet though, so probably that. Honestly, I'd probably be happy with either one at a gig. 2x15 has more genre cred if that matters, so I'd probly go with the 6x10. The 6x10 also loves dirt/overdrive. I really love both of them together (the 2x15 moves some serious air!). I'm pretty sure once I stack them horizontally and goose the mid driver on the 215 a little, I'll be even happier.
the nv425 would be pretty awesome to try out (3x10 1x15). There's been one on reverb for awhile now.

More of "the tone" last night. Dialed in the Pharaoh and Pork Loin last week, yesterday was the B3K's turn. It's weird. I seem opposite of many effects wise. I've always heard that heavy distortion sounds amazing solo and loses you in the mix. I have struggled with using light dirt settings on my pedals because they sound great solo, and shouldn't kill me in the mix. Lo and behold, I start cranking distortion/blend knobs and I start killing the mix and hating my solo tones as a result. Still, totally worth it, and good to know what the mix needs for future reference.
played a bubinga kala u bass last night at mc abe's in santa monica, i played some electric wizard and acid kings for all of the folk musicians, i'm actually tempted to go back and try the rat tail and moog delay with the tiny bass just to see what happens, i really liked the upright type tone it had coming through a little solid state combo with a 112, however i'm not sure that i'm going to be able to do the ringing harmonics and slides i like to do with the rubber strings, oh well at least i'll be able to slide it in the flat file at work without anybody being the wiser 
First free weekend after a month of continuous work. I have no idea what to do with all this free time 
Been restoring my Tama Starclassic kit all week.
So I did research and the badge is unfound, the wrap and sizes and not normal and the hoops are different. But everything says Tama and hardware matches extreme high end tamas sand says tama within the lugs.
Talking with Tama, seems it's a very early/rare/custom requested set. So good news it's not counterfeit, just not common.

supposed to cover a stone roses song maybe i am the resurrection in our noise doom way, hoping we can make a dog rise from the dead during our set at the get out the vote rally, because candelabra will probably overshadow us by summoning a demon

Question for the guys on this thread. Doom/sludge tones are great and I have a good one, but what about for when you want to pick up the pace in a song and your slow, crushing bass sound turns to mud? What's a good middle of the road?
i turn off the rat tail and just go with the drive on the mini moog delay
My band incorporates a lot of thrashier stuff with the slow. I usually use an OD. I kick on the fuzz or stack with a distortion for heavier parts.
OD for faster stuff. B3K is my preference for faster stuff. I use OD for doom as well. It's a Pork Loin. I have a Pharaoh for fuzzed out doom heaviness, and the Pork Loin for "cleaner" doom ala Candlemass. B3K goes for thrashy stuff, or any metal that is non-doom.
