So, between the funk band and recently being asked to join a country outfit, I finally did something I never really thought I'd do: I ordered flatwounds.

yeah, i'm getting to that point too, i only like rounds during that magical 3 week period before they completely give up the ghost

You're probably right, I can't see 66's working in country, let alone fresh 66's.

so after 7 years and a ton of basses and pedals, i think i've finally figured it out

with the the L2000 and the d180 i'm just gonna use the moog mini delay for the slow songs that require kind of a sub-like processed sorta thing and i'll use the rat tail for the balls to the wall drivey stuff

the dark driving will continue to be used before the pignose hog 30 to make it sound like a tube amp and for singing through

So I ended up getting a Heritage 410HLF for around 400$, and while a lot of folks don't seem to care for the "boom" it sounds fine to me so overall I'm pretty happy. Ill try and upload a picture soon when I have access to my computer. Thanks again everyone for the suggestions!

since i had to take everything apart for recording over the past week i had to redo my pedal board for live use. funny how it never stays the same. here is version 142.

I have little room in my house, and I want a small practice amp. Has anyone ever heard one of those Phil Jones cub units? There's one with a steadily dropping price on my local craigslist, and it definatly fits the size requirements. I feel so ******** asking, but does it take to pedals and sound "loud" without being thin and crappy?

I have little room in my house, and I want a small practice amp. Has anyone ever heard one of those Phil Jones cub units? There's one with a steadily dropping price on my local craigslist, and it definatly fits the size requirements. I feel so ******** asking, but does it take to pedals and sound "loud" without being thin and crappy?

they sounded good at namm, pretty deep and articulate, my in house budget setup is a fuzzrocious dark driving into a pignose hog 30 for big quiet tone

Just got back from up nort at the cabin. Had to drive back tonight cause the lady has "stuff to do tomorrow". Rained on and off all yesterday, but still fished rain and/or shine. Our new cabin boat, a 14ft Aluminacraft with a 50 year old 9.5hp Evinrude, which I pulled up with my van, pulled it quite well actually and got 20 mpg but what killed me is tank size. Well, it runs and works perfect for the lakes up north. Caught a half dozen decent perch in the rain but still had fun. Pan fried them in some nice strong beer with a lot of pepper for some fish tacos.

Today, before heading back out, we stopped at the St. Croix Rod HQ and I bought myself my first real nice casting/spinning rod. Oh is it soooo silky smooth when casting and reeling. Also its dark purple flake which looks amazeballs in the sun, which finally came out today but no fish were caught...

I've barely had time, and when I have I've even less inclination, to go out and fish at all this year. I think I've gone twice since May started, I've completely missed sulphurs and just been down on the whole thing.

Maybe when my oncall rotation ends tomorrow I'll go out and swing a few down and across for old times.

It's crazy, a year ago I was neck deep in rod-building supplies and creating my perfect complement of rods for both dry and wet fishing.. and now, nothing.

it's a PT2 i believe. the BMC is nice. i have an empress para ew but i find for live use i just need a mid control since my amp doesn't have one. bmc is a lot smaller.

I wish I could fish more, and get more knowledgable about it in terms of like walleye, pike and muskie fishing. Right now im just a basic, opportunitistic, whatever will bite the lure/bait and lets reel er in fisherman. This rod and reel combo were a really good price and better quality than most rods, Ill have this rod for the rest of my life hopefully. Also its purple. Im happy to get fishing whenever I can, and even more happy to finally have good equipment when I do get to go. And as always bad day fishin is better than a good day at work.

No, I'm very much aware they're entirely different from the Sunns, that was just a starting point, I ran the controls in many different settings. Possibly part of this is that it's an active Bandaxall tone stack, if I remember correctly, which is why the bass didn't affect the rest of the spectrum, which is something I'm just not used to. And I suppose I expect it to sound full with the bass off just because of experience with other amps, which I guess isn't entirely fair. But Hiwatts and Sunns still retain a fullness even with the bass rolled way down, and even SVTs seem to do it better, where as the V4 seemed a bit gutless unless the bass was set to 5ish (which I believe is flat on a Bandaxall). I also had the amp set to 5 on gain and 5 on master, but do they really need to be set even higher to open up?

I guess I just don't get along with Ampegs. I try to go into testing them without any pretense or ideas, and I've tried to like them for years, but I just feel like they lack something compared to various other amp brands. I'd also heard such good things about the V4 I probably had pretty high expectations. I was excited to play one.

Actually, looking through videos, the settings I put in were pretty similar to the ones he uses for the gain/grind demonstrations here, though with the master rolled back, and it sounds pretty similar to what I was getting. Some might love it, I guess the main take away is different strokes, I don't mean to insult anyones love of the V4B RI.

See, to me that sounds amazing.

Though honestly you can't really get the full effect through a dinky portaflex cab. If I got a V4B, I'd still run it through my 2000S cab.

V4Bs are more middy and less bassy than SVTs. To get an SVT to be "flat," you have to bump up the mids and highs a bit and turn down the lows a bit. The V4B is actually very flat with all controls at noon.

Also keep in mind that it is actually a lower wattage amp than a 2000S.

When I saw the band North, the bassist was using a V4B (not sure if new or old) through two big cabs. Monstrous tone.

Good gigs this past Fri/Sat, then jammed some keys for a garage band/basement project last night. Fun stuff.

Trying to decide which bass goes and which stays. Matt Freeman P or Epi t bird? I really like them both, but 3 basses is too much for me, and my Greco needs a refret soon.
