Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

So this happened:

So the wife has had a very difficult week at work. Her boss got laid off a while ago, upper management has a new re-org plan every 4 hours, she doesn't know who her boss is going to be, what she's supposed to work on long term, she spent all week stuck supporting some clown-ass badly written piece of software that she didn't write, she's angling for a different job in the same company but is worried about the political fallout, and she's overall been a total mess of stress.

Today, she reports feeling much better about the world despite the fact that none of these issues have been resolved.

And yes, I noticed the maxi-pad wrapper in the bathroom trash last night for the first time since last month.

I know already we are going to spend all our evenings this long holiday weekend deconstructing in minute detail her work / general-life angst issues and I will thus not be able to devote any attention to finishing vocals / rough mixing of the new EP, and I'm going to miss out a kick ass local show.

So my question to the hive mind is this:
How long will my hospital stay be if I point out to her the obvious PMS correlation?

Carry on and happy Memorial day weekend.

I know you have the right attitude already and the post was in humor, but for anyone reading...If your marriage is in a good state now, put the time in and keep it that way. A steady investment of attention now and ongoing is far less cost on the whole than trying to fix things later after they go sideways. Have you priced marriage counseling per hour lately?

Played with the crayon through the tube practice rig and it sounds really good! Bass knob is about unity at 2:00, after that is bass boost, and it gets pretty damn thick. The OD is very nice, grindy like Lemmy or Rob Weight from Nomeansno. It gets dirty faster than the OD Glove, with a bit more gain on tap. It can get quite dirty, but never fuzzes or squishes out. So far so good, can't wait to try it out with SVT and band.

I never got the weak B string complaints either. Not my experience at all, with multiple 5 strings and BEAD 4 strings. Sometimes it's a little floppier than I like, but that's a string issue. I just bought different strings and it fixed the problem. Also I think some people just aren't plucking the string properly. It seems counter intuitive because the string is so big, but I've found that lighter touch on B string can tighten/clean up the sound immensely. I love to do an aggressive fingerstyle pluck, but it's not always the best choice for a low B in my experience.
I've actually had no problems doing a really heavy attack on the low B on my BEAD tuned basses. Sounds absolutely huge on all of them.

Don't do it. Back massage or something instead.

Dialed in the Sabbra Cadabra last night at practice. Took a while, and sounded weird for a bit, but I think it was the ear plugs. Took them out, readjusted settings, kept dooming. This thing sounds like I'm killing my amp with heavy power tube saturation (in a good way). Once I dialed it in, this thing rocks. Articulate on higher registers and cuts incredibly well, nice and thick, but with bite on the lower notes and chords. Who would have thought that something designed to sound like Iommi would do so well in doom? Gotta say though, it was a little off-putting at first to not hear the rumbly low end in the rig. But in the mix it's not missed!

Birthday Party tonight to play. I heard were playing last out of three acts. Hosting band has nice gear, nice enough to let us use it. I just bring pedal board, cables and bass.
Well see what the configuration is this time. I know there are two 810 in the room. Curious if both will be hooked up like the first time we played this party.
All of the members gear is in rolling racks. It's gear geek heaven.
Funny part is our 14 song set is about the same amount of time as their five song short set.

Did more jamming with the crayon today, it's a keeper. Slow cooking some country/spare ribs on the grill. Dry rub brined/spice rubbed for a few hours, seared them off now I'm cooking them over indirect heat with the lid down. Will hit them with homemade bbq sauce as they finish. Also plowing through a giant bottle of ipa to start the evening off right.
