not a big used market and lots of places don't have them in stock. IE bigger retail. they are still out there for sure.

Yeh, there weren't a lot of places with them in stock when I got mine.
I remember reading reviews saying the modulation switch only controlled the LED and not the sound (not an issue with either of the units I've had) and that it only worked on battery power (again, not something I had issue with).

The bad stone mummy face that is. When i got it the board was disconnected from the pots, jacks, battery clips and chassis. It needed a new foot switch, which i got, then rewired it according to a photo i got from the EHX forums. Plugged it in and it didn't work, didn't even pass signal. I couldn't figure out what was wrong so i put it away for a couple weeks.
Looked at it today, all three terminals of the new foot switch were in contact with the ground trace on the pcb. D'oh!
Put some tape on for shielding and tried again, it works!
Sounds ****ed up, has the wrong value pots and a trimmer that needs adjusting, but that should be easy. Super pumped!

I used the BBE BMAX for a while and it sounded amazing at high volume. There's just the tiniest bit of tube-ish grind with the gain knob cranked (on the solid state version, haven't heard the tube one), but Damn it sounded good.
I only sold it because i decided to go back to an integrated head and i needed the money, i wish i had kept it.
But, i sold it to my boss and I'm sure i could borrow it if you wanted to take a test drive. Just let me know.
Edit: missed the part where you said you were building a tube pre. There's a tube version of the BMAX, might be with checking out.

i need to play through one of these at some point, lots of people i meet have nothing but good things to say about them. i know they arent kings of headroom, but theyre supposed to be pretty awesome tonewise.
Yea I figured with my dually the headroom would be spot on in certain situations or mic'd/recorded.
I've almost gotten 3 at under $400 and each time it's taken out from under me, so maybe that's a sign lol.
Yeah apparently god wants you to get a 6string carvin and bring that Demeter to church....

Yeah, trying to go all-tube for the pre. Just cause really. I've got a GK 700RB, which sounds great, but I just want to try my hand at a tube rack pre for giggles. I've also got my Dark Terror + DR103 EQ build going on. Should be fun.
Ever get those LM308's in? Did everything go well there?

First round of Bass VI mods finished, only noticeable one left will be adding white switches to keep it uniformly white. Digging the chrome knobs a lot more. The black knobs were sharp as hell and removing them reminded me of that weird Kung-Pao movie where he has to remove Betty's chest pyramids of power.
Anyways it's not very doom, but it looks perfect for some bounce.

I would. I'm not big on the Terror Bass's EQ. I'm sure the 300 Pro also has a similar EQ, but it provides a few more options to work around that.

If I was going to get a pre/power setup, I'd probably get a custom made Dunwich pre.
Also, I think my 2000S cab might actually be able to fit into the back of a Prius if the seats fold down... could fit two of them into a Scion.
One of the things I like about the D-180 is that it's significantly lighter than an SVT. I like SVTs, but they're more than I need. If I could have the SVT preamp but with my D-180's power amp. Or both preamps, switchable and/or blendable.
Sorry, kinda fantasizing about a hypothetical tube amp.

Maybe get a custom pre that's a clone of the B-15 preamp? Or maybe a pre that's got a B-15 and a Bassman channel?

Thanks! Got the LM308 and did the swap - less muddy midrange, more clarity and bite, more overall gain. I was having feedback problems at the last practice but I think I tracked that down to some loose wiring on the pedalboard. We'll see on Friday when I run it a full volume again.
