I understand completely. Im not looking at buying anything over my budget, and will actually be saving money every month. So hopefully none of those unforseen expenses will be too bad.
I am very familiar with all of this. My parents decided to have 4 sons so that we could take over the maintenance of their house.
And this is what I have been doing, but rent around here is on the rise. I see no reason to spend $1500 a month on rent for a small 1 bedroom, when I can spend $1,000 on a house.
Do it. Best decision I've ever made. Of course, my wife supports my bass addiction (for the most part) and part of our agreement in getting a house was a band room. Now, I always have a practice space, since that is always a huge consideration in getting a band going. I also has places for gear, a little work area to fix/maintain gear, etc. and for less than I was paying rent. Great investment. Do it!I understand completely. Part of what helps is my lady friend is super supportive. I am buying something I can afford on my own. She is moving from Austin to Grand Rapids in August, and will move in with me (either in a house, or my current apartment for the short term). She actually does better than I do financially, so it takes more stress off the decision as well.
GRRRRRRRR....everyone in the kvlt is getting working VTA400s and mine has been in the shop for 3 months and I still have to wait for Mercury to clone the PT...
How do the old GK 800RB compare volume wise to a 300 watt tube amp? I'm still looking for something I would like as a stereo option since the mostly harmless didn't get me where i wanted to go. I'm thinking I'm going to end up getting an SVT II but I've always liked how the old GK RBs sound.

My 400rb is quite loud I imagine an 800rb should get you in the realm you're looking for.
Yea seems like every week someone retires their old DJ system and there's 2-20 old CS-*00 amps up for sale at like $20-$80 a piece.

Yeah, they're everywhere, I know of several languishing in local shops - don't know why people think they can get multiple hundreds of dollars for these things. Even new power amps are a dying product segment. Everyone's moving over to active PA speakers, power amps are a dime a dozen, especially the old heavy ones.
@askrere Checking out the Arturia minilab online, that may have more than I need. I just a MIDI controlling for the Minitaur. Don't need the KB to generate it's own tones.
I don't think the Arturia does anything unless plugged into something else? If it does damn... I need to figure that out, drum trades been flakey.
Its not really the mostly harmless that has turned me off. I think its more the carvin power amp that I have it running through. When playing it at high volume, compared to the verellen its almost like having cotton stuffed in your ears. It just feels like there is something missing and I either never got the knobs twiddled just right to bring out what i felt it was missing from it. I turned knobs for a couple of months and never got it to sound like what I wanted. Then i plugged the verellen back in and it was like having my ears cleaned. It all brightened up and filled the room more. I'm still not totally certain I'm going to ditch the mostly harmless yet cus at lower volume and straight into a DI it sounds pretty great and i love the matamp side for guitar.
You need to find a cs800 or an old lead sled stereo slave head for that mostly harmless...New class d is guttless.
Does the Meatsmoke have an effects loop? I'd be curious about running the MH into the tube power section.
