Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Agreed. And I can actually do basic recording stuff! And you must be thinking of the HSD (another fuzz I've wanted to try). I didn't know they were both Ram's Heads, but I'm always happy to learn new stuff.

On second thought, the pharaoh may be a Russian of some variety. I think Kitrae describes it as a Russian.

Id love to see a dod 250 with a depth mod

I'd be curious as to the effectiveness. That circuit is kind of strange in that the gain knob also functions as a tone control. The PCBs I have include a "compression" switch that effectively changes the value of the input cap between two or three options.

Decided to finally get around to refurbishing one of my 2000s cabs and tolex my DIY one. Had to strip the nasty thick levant off of the cab. Whoever recovered this in the past did a real hack job. I don't know what sort of adhesive they used, but it is nasty stuff. Never really dried or stuck the levant to the cabinet very well, but it is thick and sticky under the covering. The 80 grit sand paper couldn't do a thing on the orbital sander, had to break out the belt sander. And they must have cleaned out an entire Home Depot of its staple supply. Seriously, I think I pulled something like 200 staples out of it today that they'd used to secure the levant along the edges. And I haven'st started to clear out the fabric lining the cab (probably another 150 stables just put in willy-nilly there). Also did a fair amount of bondo work on the cabinet to fill in old jack holes, out of place screw holes, and various dents in the wood. Have some new tolex coming from Conrad and I'm still trying to source some of the other parts (handles, cabinet feet, etc), but it'll be really nice to have all my cabs matching and looking clean instead of all ratty and half-finished. The stained cabinet of the DIY one, while cool, just isn't my vibe. I prefer matching sets.

Also think I'm going to order a new wiring harness for my Ric, have a push/pull for stereo, a push/pull for the cap on the horseshoe, and all 60s spec pots for the volume and tone. Apparently other Ric owners have done this and it opens the bass up even more, brining out more highs, which I'm going to have to hear to believe since it's already super bright.

I would think that their most advanced designs were their 1x15 cabs, which are just a TL606 ripoff. Not that that's a bad thing, as it's a decent design.

Also, 1" boardstock? Holy crap, that's ridiculous.

I was referencing their isobaric cabs. Where you get to pay for two speakers, carry two speakers, and get all the sound of one!

Those always seemed silly to me. The second speaker can't possibly be contributing much.

I like Orange's guitar stuff, but the only one of their bass products I'd be interested in would be their single 15". And since I've already got a Sunn 2x15, well, there's nothing for me.

It contributes zero output in volume. It used to be used to get a smaller total cabinet size, and to push the electromagnetic specs of the speakers to something more suitable. With modern designs, there is no reason to chase isobaric designs. They offer no benefits.

So it basically just makes the cab more expensive, heavier, and annoyingly deep?

Ah not looking for the glitchy glitch. OC-2 I guess unless I can get an OC-3 stays. Prefer that second octave on the kayboard so far.

I might've missed the beginning of your thought for context, but are you looking to replace the OC-2? If so, why? It's the best-sounding (to me) octave I've heard, but you gotta play to the pedal a bit. It sounds amazing with fuzz afterward.

Wasn't digging it on stringed instruments like I had the Oc-3. Works on the synth really well, but always wondered about like Micro pog and others, then realized most don't have a second octave Down and that's the best part on keys.

I don't have a POG but both my guitar players in HC and MDT do and they sounds pretty damn good. I still prefer the OC-2, but the POG tracks better. Does the POG-2 have two octaves down? Probably not worth the expense, though.
