Ditto here. I have at least 3 times the amount of pedals as my guitarists. Puny strings, puny boards!

One guitarist in Catapult is running a massive delay pedal, a volume pedal, tuner, and the footswitch for his amp. The second has a tuner, a tubescreamer, a very small delay, a reverb pedal, and the footswitch for his amp. The keyboardist/third guitarist runs straight in except for a tuner.

So all less pedalage than me.

the irony isn't lost on me when i'm using all my pedals to approximate the tone of d180 with the little rechargeable pignose in my living room

I find that filters are incredibly personal. My favorites for bass, in this order, are the DOD FX25B, MXR Bass a Envelope Filter, and 3Leaf Proton, with the Proton being my favorite thus far.

I would also recommend the Source Audio Bass Envelope Filter. It has plenty of options and types of filters if you're not sure what type of filter you'd like. I started there to find the options I liked, then used those criteria to get stand alone pedals.

Except for the Proton i tried all filters you mentioned, none could make it on my board (FX25B sucked volume, MXR BEF had some strange spikes and my SA Manta sounded too much digital). But you are 100% right, filters are much personal and i´m a complicated guy.

You'll hear more wah's than filters in the genre, but bassballs is probably the most common filter (see Atomic Bitchwax) followed by the Mutron. I personally like my VFE Mini-Mu which I had them mod slightly for bass, but the standard version works great for bass as well.

Yeahhh, i love the Atomic Bitchwax a lot, the reason why i bought a Mooer Bass Sweeper (clone of the EHX Nano Bassballs but with trimpots outside), but really hard to find a great setting and it´s more like a phaser sweeper than "quack quack" sound. In the FX section i saw a thread where a Micro or Nano Mu-Tron III was announced, i will try that for sure since i never could afford the original.

I'm selling my wah pedal. It's enough my guitarist is overusing his.

Sad and/or funny fact: my guitarist is always too drunk/stoned to use his wah in a nice way, i don´t know how many times he tripped over his wah and lost his balance, for his safety i want his wah taken out of his setup and take over the wah parts with bass.

My DOD sucked volume too, but I love how it sounds. I got it modded for a volume control of sorts by a local guy. It's currently on my all DOD guitar board, and I love it there. No need for me to "upgrade" my guitar effects.

The BEF is very versatile, but requires a ton of patience to find what works. It's got a lot of bad settings too. I took weeks to tune it to digest rid of those spikes you mentioned. Currently it's on my bass "b" board. Sounds great there, and I have adjusted it as necessary for the effects on it. If you change dirt or other pedals often, this could be a pain.

The Proton is a little tough to dial in, but not like the BEF. And it has far fewer "bad" settings or spikes. I wish it had a volume control, as it seems to suck out a tiny bit of volume. Nothing huge. It's got a very "bubbly" tone that I love.

I say the same thing about my Bassballs, actually. I went in and played with the trimpots once, and I sort of wish I was motivated to go put them backt o where they started... I thought about trying to do the trimpot mod to it, but I'm hopeless with a soldering iron and just never bothered.

I should see if I can find a used Sweeper.

For me, I tried a bunch of the envelope filters in my MS60b, and none of them seemed to do wht I wanted (nor did flangers or phasers), which is that sort of sweeping low thing in the outro of Dragonaut.. but I can do that with a wah, so, well, that gets used and everything else sits on a shelf.

I'm sure it's poor tools, lack of knowledge, and technique but the wah pedal just seems to let me make those sounds better. Even autowahs couldn't make it sweep as slowly as I wanted.. Eh. I

Also, I got a mint black Russian muff some time ago. Sounded awesome when I played it at home.
Then my guitarist came over and we had a mini rehearsal and I literally vanished in the mix. Back to the fuzz drawing board.

Yeah, people aren't going to believe it when they hear the new Catapult album, but that nasty tone is just the D-180 most of the time. While I do have a fuzz pedal (custom Dunwich!), in that band I use it for "EXTRA HEAVY!" parts. Usually at or near the ends of songs. In fact I'm only using a fuzz pedal in one of the four songs that will be on the new record (swollen pickle, as I didn't have the Dunwich yet).

On my fuzz pedal, I actually use a relatively low fuzz setting with the volume set really high, so some of the drive is just from hitting the amp with a boosted signal.

Eh, I've been stoned and used my wah plenty of times. Of course, it's also hefty enough and wide enough that I sometimes just use it as a footrest.

The Sweeper was one of my last pedal purchases and i´m still in the learning curve, found more time yesterday night to tweak all the pots to find THE ONE AND ONLY sweet spot, i love this pedal more & more.

I should see if I can find a used Sweeper.

Even if you buy the Sweeper new: BIG bang for the buck for such a TINY pedal, surprisingly this was by far my cheapest envelope filter i ever bought and i´m not disappointed.

Me too, i never use it stand alone, always stacked with some overdrive and/or fuzz before.

Like someone suggested here in this thread before i will try to bring back my broken WahWah, should be repaired in less than 2 weeks, for slow sweeps it could be the best choice. Actually i was happy not using my Wah anymore, because it´s a huge and heavy MF:

Oh yes, it gets pretty dirty on its own, but pushed with an OD it gets way better.
