most places won't guarantee results if you go beyond 20 min and you do so at your own risk. ideally stay under 19 minutes.

I'm sure this has been discussed 1,000 times already, but for those that tune to drop C, what strings/gauges do you guys use?
I want to have the string tension as close to standard EADG, the less floppy the better......I assume I am going to need to go for something thicker or a has high tension core.

I ran 120s (from a five string set) for a while, but the C is really fat. I now am very happy with the Dunlop "Heavier" Core set which is a fat-core 115. It feels very natural and I can switch basses easily between my C bass and my regular E-tuning bass which runs a 106 E.
Thats always a question with a million answers but Ive only got one and it may not apply since Im in C standard. I usually run D'Addario NYXL 55-120 nickel wound heavy gauge but I find the C string has more of a thump and less sustain so I tried the same brand and same size but in medium gauge and now I find that I have the sustain I was missing and I was concerned that medium gauge was not going to sound as deep and be floppy but that is not the case.

I tune to B standard and use 130, 100, 80, 60.

I play in drop C with the DDR DDT 115s. I like the tone and tuning stability but it doesn't feel like standard to me, it feels floppy.
One thing I struggled with when I switched to this tuning was playing fast. It's not normally a problem for me but when the string is floppy, I guess it doesn't push back as quickly/as hard as I was used to. Definitely had to spend some time adapting.

^ I got some DDTs w/ the 115 to try out. I strung them up quick, and they seem like they might work, but the nut needed filing. And the bridge saddles would too, so the strings are getting choked pretty bad. This is the Jolana Czech special, so I'll have to look at my other basses.
Oh wow, interesting that you had to file the nut and are tight at the bridge. I stopped at 115 because I would have had to file the nut and I wasn't yet committed to having a bass in that tuning all the time.
I have had bridge problems with a regular low B on a 5 string. I tried low riders (I think? It was years ago) but I couldn't mentally get past that skinny little part of the string on the bridge. I was paranoid that I would break it. I never did but the fear was there lol

I just got my tech to do it when he set up my basses in BEAD.
I had some Blue Steels in 105 lying around so I threw those on, they seem OK. I'll know more after I run them through the paces tonight, I'm playing with a band I used to play in, tonight is going to be the Sunn Beta Bass through the 2 Schroeder 15s....gonna let it do all the fuzz, maybe give the bass crybaby a spin too.
