I honestly never liked my D-180 in master volume dimed configuration. Don't really like SVTs that way, either.
Never made sense to me to buy an expensive amp only to run it for maximum clean headroom and then use a dirtbox on the floor for overdrive.
svt won't be clean with the master on full by the time you push the gain up to gig levels it will have some nice powertube drive.
Not enough. I like the sound of diming the gain and adjusting the master volume to band balance needs than diming the master and using the gain as a volume knob.
The whole "you should not use the master volume on amps" thing always seems kinda hipstery/snobby to me. I'm not saying that you personally are a hipster or a snob (I know you're not), but I just see that recommendation on the amps forum a lot and I've always found it... I don't know, just, kind of elitist/vintage fetishist (since lots of old amps didn't have master volume controls). Guitar amps use a combination of pre and power drive all the time and it sounds great. Why should suddenly preamp overdrive be bad just because I happen to be playing bass? Overdrive from a $100 stomp box is good, but overdrive from the preamp section of my amplifier is bad, somehow?

That's been my impression, but I was almost starting to convince myself that I was hearing wrong, since I'd never seen a bad word about em on TB, lol. Never searched for one either though...
I'll have to give it a go. Never had a chance to personally play through any of em. Heard em live, but never cared for em.
Effing killer and I can't get enough of the new geezer either. I just started to check out Monobrow too. Thanks whoever that was that mentioned them!

Btw, you all should check out Brume and Year of the Cobra. They were amazing last night.

It's very awkward as an adult man to tell people in real life that you're preferred music is "stoner metal" and not sound like a lowlife.
