Thanks mate, yeah there's also a 427w All-Tube Ashdown for sale locally for a good price.

I used to have a Sunn 300T. Dumbest thing I've ever done was getting rid of it.

That was indeed a mistake on your part, getting rid of that 300T. Most of us have sold gear we later wished we hadn't, though.

If you've got a line on a 427 for a decent price locally, I'd go with that.

Orange AD200
Orange OB1-500
Genz Benz 1200 or 600

So likely a hybrid option with plenty of power.

I would encourage you the other way. Go with MUCH less dirty power.

The AD200 might be the best choice. Those speakers dont have much real world power handling for bass. I would also use a hard HPF at 50 hz or so to keep the speakers alive.

I haven't heard many who were unhappy with their AD200. The weakest link on this head is not power - it seems to be the limited (passive) EQ range and lack of DI and effects loop, but if you're using nice preamp pedals, then you don't need to use the head's EQ nearly as much.

That being said, I'm happy for anyone to not buy one - hoping that the used market price on these drops so I can get a backup. :)

Solid heads, I've owned two & have never had a problem with the power/loudness. I'll likely get rid of mine when my matamp shows up in a few weeks though.

What Sartori said. I can attest to the Peavy classic, Mesa, and Fenders. Love the clean warmth and response you get from the Fenders and Mesa. I'd also add that you should check out Ashdown ABM's. They make em up to 900w if I remember correctly. Amazing sounding amps.

But really, I'd give the bunch a test ride or at least check out videos. Each kind have their own feel for sure, some more wooly or thick than others. Some might give you what you want, some might sound awesome, but not what you want.

Those are definitely a good place to start.

I've been amassing an army of Peavey Silver Stripes lately, but relatively few footswitches. Anybody know if it's safe to run my footswitch to a TRS splitter (TRS footswitch, obviously) and from the splitter to multiple amps? That way, I can activate all the dirt on all my amps simultaneously. I do the same thing with a splitter at the end of my pedal board to get signal to each of the amps. Thanks, all!
