I use dirt in a fairly subtle way and love the clean blend on this thing. You can retain your original tone, so that's cool. It can go dirtier as well...

So I tested the GK CX210 vs a TC RS210... no shop had both the CX210 and 115 at a reasonable distance, so I did a 210 vs 210 test.
Since the shop I went to had sales which made it a great price, I took home the CX210.
It literally ate the TC... the sales prep told me it works much better with its own head...I hope so.
The GK was deeper and I love the tweeter control. It really did a great impression (I had just changed strings the day before to not be influenced by my previous dead set), managed to get botha fine grindy sound and a more old school deep tone with a Ashdown Mibass 220. My ABM should not struggle at all.
Rehersal with post-desert band in two days, first time with my old MAG115 and the new CX210 together. I really hope it all works well
If the result is good enough I may leave the El Toro behind and go on with my old beloved P.

String gauge recommendations for drop A# pretty please. Is 135 the best? I would like to keep the gauges as light as possible, but still with good tension. Fidgeting around with drop C was kind of a pain, but I'm being asked to go lower.

It actually wasn't too bad. I raised the action a bit and adjusted my technique (played closer to the bridge). It sounded great.
I'll admit I did the same on my PJ. Just lowered the pups a little and I naturally play a bit closer to the bridge. Roughly above the j pup, sometimes a little in front of it. I was in drop C though and used EB slinky's.
If you tuned A# standard, you could just use the bottom four strings from a heavy 5-string set.

Ya know, I had an 1/4" speaker out added to the amp (the head on top) when I had it fixed up. I remember plugging it into a 2x12 Avatar cab I had at the time and was fairly impressed how loud it got. I wish I could plug it into my 2x15 but it isn't the right impedance.
Well, had me some spending money. Two Dunwich pedals later, and that’s gone. Any tips on the Volt Thrower and ODB? Hoping to get Bolt Thrower-ish tone from the VT, not sure what with the ODB, but couldn’t pass it up. I guess mostly what I need to know is how would you describe the differences in diodes on the VT?

I was thinking the cab! Didn’t realize you had the matching head too! I would be tempted to get a whole Dano rig. I think their pedals are highly underrated, at least their older, big metal ones. Boutique quality, no. But I’d play them over a lot of the mass produced stuff any day.
The cab/speaker for the Dano piggy back head is definitely 60's and not really up for doom bass. Pretty great guitar amp though.

I'm currently playing a jazz bass through a GK 1001RB-II and an EBS CL 410 cab with a diy RAT clone. My tone is farty and undefined as hell though. There's a local offer of a guy selling an Ampeg SVT 410HLF, would that help? I'm also going to get a clean blend to fatten up the distorted signal with my orginal clean tone.
Tips?

@Kügel If it was me I would start with the smallest/cheaper thing to change, which would be the pedal... giving for granted that the bass is at its best setup wise (lively strings adequate action and all) and the head EQ at its best.
I would give a try to some other distortion which has already a blend. Unless you don't like your cab clean too- than a cab change is more sensed. But what if the cab goes well with a different pedal?

Definitely a good idea since I actually do like the clean tone of the amp. Next rehearsal I'm going to bring in a different bass (custom Bacchus) with a good setup. I was thinking of getting a Darkglass Microtubes B7K actually with the clean blend and the many tone shaping options. I'ma also going to try and change some EQ-settings on the GK as well.
