This is how I feel. I've only ever heard a few of their offerings in person and fiddled on one quickly once. Great product, just not me. I think I may be more vintage in tonality similar to @ProgressiveDoom.

I think you got a good point about versatility. I think the voicing/character is what you need to really love from a pedal/amp/bass, you'll find ways to make it versatile if you want that.

I took my new GK Cx210 at rehersal the other night to stack it with my MAG115 and finally get my Abm's full power. My Abm is the latest model with a speakon only socket and a jack one.... of course I forgot the speakon cable home so I could only use the jack output, so I tested the new cab alone.
At first the sound was totally harsh, so much I thought a speaker was going to drop out since it was grinding badly at less than half volume. Than I remembered I have a tweeter now and I switched it off... BLISS! Finally a musical tone... that 1x15 I used for 5 years must have formed the bass sound in my head..
I am pleased with the tone and clarity I have now, but I also changed strings one week ago so I must distinguish what influences most the change in sound.
My issue now is that with the Abm at 350@8ohms with the 400W GK cab I had to push the volume abundantly over half to cope with my guitarist's 60W full tube head at 3 (meaning 7 o' clock - 3 points after 0) which was the same with the old 250W Mag... We play in a rehersal-specialized place.
I hoped for more volume with the better cab but not too much changed, I guess I badly need the two cabs together. I noticed a bit too much speaker excursion too so I'm considering a high pass filter...
Otherwise the head gets a check up! It MUST have the POWER

It's only a 2x10 though. With the 1x15 going too it should be good.

Yeah I prefer lighter strings, more fun to play on IMO. Easier bends too.
I'd rather buy some unique dirt pedals and keep the foundation of my sound from my amp, especially the overdrive.

The Malazan Book of the Fallen and Novels of the Malazan Empire are two parallel book series set in the same fictional universe, written by Steven Erikson and Ian Esslemont, respectively. Both series have now concluded, but they're still writing stories in that setting.

They're both anthropologists/archaeologists, which informs their work heavily. They're also huge nerds and initially created the world as a setting for their D&D and later GURPS pen and paper RPGs.

Sounds like something my buddies and I would do. Never played GURPS, but DnD is good stuff.

The main series that starts with I think Gardens of the Moon? (going by memory been years) is fantastic. It's really well written and very well imagined they do a really good job on the details of building a world and a backstory. It feels epic in the way that reading Greek myths are epic. The only critique I have of the series is that its a bit high concept writing in parts and not everybody is a fan of that. That and the sheer number of characters makes Game of Thrones look easy to follow. It's a better series then Game of Thrones IMHO, different, but better.

Just throwing it out there but you may also like Adrian Tchaikovsky's Shadows of the Apt series as well.

Definitely. The world feels really "big," like a world as large and diverse and crazy as our own. Erikson especially does get a bit experimental with writing style at time, while Esslemont is always more straight forward. Also really rewards rereads.

And yeah, the main series starts with Gardens Of The Moon.

The other thing I'd warn about is that it very much starts mid-action. There's no opening exposition to tell you how the world works or anything like that. It's purposefully very confusing at first because it's supposed to be very confusing and chaotic for the characters.

So, my family insists on this whole X-Mas list thing, but refuses to actually buy anything I’d like (music stuff is out of their price range and comfort zone, so I need exact links for this stuff). So I’m trying to think of cheap bass/guitar/music gifts for stocking stuffers. Ideas for anything?

So far, I’m thinking DeOxit, but don’t know which is which. I’ve been using off brand stuff for both pots and inputs/outputs, but thought this might be a chance to get the “good stuff”. Which 2 products would clean the pots and ins/outs, and which one cleans which?

Any cool multi-tools or anything?
