Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Rearranged the stack last night for some DOOMersize

Guitar and bass sacks together for easy change over. Bass is using the Vulcan through the 3620 clone and the 215 with the Dunwich through Windsors power section, at least until the festival is up and running, until then it makes a good amp stand. Guitar is Vulcan stack and the Windsor halfstack. The Dunwich goes into the front end of the windsor for some additional EQing and to boost it. Rat is always on OD for bass. Rat is completely dimed on guitar for the uber heavy. Flanger is in the efx loop, kinda want to add so mthing else in there too. While be interesting to add in the Lucifuzz once I get it.

In her defense, I don't really need another bass. I don't gig, don't even really play out of the house with any regularity, and the basses I have will most certainly cover any jams I might encounter. I just want a shiny new toy. I can't fault her for being money sensible.

Edit: I don't really have anything I can flip for said new toy.

There is the old, I will sell my other bass(basses) if I like this one better Honey and if not I will flip it. And that way I will have a shipping box on hand.

This, among many other much larger reasons, is why I am divorced. Dont tell me, "we are saving, you may not buy that ____!" when you go out to sushi for lunch three times a week while I eat rice and beans to not go over the monthly food budget. :rage:

oops.... Little big of my former life spilling out.
I think the real issue there was that she ate sushi. Grossest poopie out.

My ex and I got back together not long ago after a 6 month split. We were engaged for a few months but things started getting super hectic between us in that time. To fast-forward all the ********, we simply realised we needed each other despite all the trivial arguing. We still argue but it doesn't feel like its taxing on us anymore. Maybe we're a bit masochistic that way. I guess the engagement/wedding is still on.

Anyway, the point of that was to say that when we were originally together, she would absolutely lose her poopie whenever I'd come home with a new toy. She didn't mind so much if it was a new pedal (until she found out how much each pedal cost :P ) but moreso when I bought a new cab, amp or bass. Man, when I bought my Stingray, I swear half the country could hear her yelling. I probably really shouldn't have bought it in the first place since we were saving up for the wedding at the time...but dammit, I wanted it and it was a good price! She's always been conservative with her money and still is but not as militantly now.

In other news, I finally got a chance to muck around with the Carbon Copy. Sounds really nice, especially on the Ray. I couldn't help myself and started oscillating the living poopie out of it after about 20 minutes of normal play. I was pleased at how easy it was to get it oscillating on its own but also surprised at how quickly it could get out of control. I learned how to control the volume peaks (kinda) with the Regen knob but I want to test it out at louder volumes and get a real feel for it. Maybe tomorrow.

I'm in the process of selling some stuff to pick up some new gear. The wife and I are in saving mode, so if I want new toys, old toys need to go.

I'm in the same boat, with the kid on the way. That's why I sold off all my gear that I hadn't used in over a year. Between that and booking some side jobs, I have a gear fund saved up, just trying to prioritize my budget before I start spending.

Question for any of you tech savvy/IT guys. Would going from a computer with a Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz processor, to a Quad Core i7 2.6GHz be a significant upgrade or no? I'm clueless as to how the different configurations affect processing power. If I'm going from a dual core with a higher base power to a quad core with a lower base power, is it just a lateral move? I'm thinking about upgrading my recording computer and getting the new Logic X. I've got a 2009 iMac now, the new ones are twice as expensive as what I paid for mine then. The new Mac Mini models are way more affordable and not bundled with a bunch of stuff I don't need, that's the best processor you can get (with 16 gigs RAM, vs 8 on my iMac), but they haven't updated the Mac Mini line since 2012. So I'm not sure if I should hold out a while and see if they release a new Mac Mini with a better processor or break the bank on a new iMac, which I could technically afford but would probably eat up all my gear fund, until I sell anything else or book more recording/mixing jobs. Some of that might be offset if I sell my current iMac, but I have zero clue what the value of used Macs are.

I really only love the cooked shrimp rolls and for raw fish I only love tuna. But damn I will eat the hell out of it.
I'm not for all that sharing you money with your other half anyway. I bought a house I can afford on my own, so the ol lady helps me out with the bills, groceries, etc, but I don't want one bank account ever, unless a savings...maybe. You handle your money and I will handle my money.

We have a joint savings account that, surprisingly, neither of us emptied after our first split which probably says a fair bit about her. Otherwise, we have our own separate accounts and chip in for the rent and bills when needed. Seems like the logical thing to do, really.

Yeah, it's also like if you screw up it's on you not me darlin' kind of thing. I think we may start doing a vacation fund though. I am not big on the whole legal side of marriage thing either though, but I am a negative leaning realist old sum bich too, and don't make enough to afford ex wives LOL.

We pool our money, and it works for us. I take care of some of the bills, she takes care of the others. It's just a little too tight right now, and I can live just fine with my current fleet of 2 basses. If I was making some dough with those basses, yeah, maybe I'd be justified saying I wanted another, but I'm not.

She makes more than I do, so I'm hitting her up for support if we split, LOL.
