There would be a notable difference between a dual core and an i7. Are you tied to Mac with software etc.? I used to use macs but to be honest I don't think the difference in quality to a decent Windows machine justifies the extra cost anymore.
The good new is though, if you are selling your old iMac they hold their value pretty well!
Recent lurker finally say "Hi y'all". Stumbled across this thread looking for info on the legendary Bluebeard (Proud owner of 2 of'em. Lived close to Atomic Music for years), stayed for the camaraderie. Y'all are some cool folks. Started dabbling my ears in these waters, found so far i dig Torche and Earthless. I'm also on the hunt for another 215 thanks to you bastagesI REALLY want a Dually, but I think the budget will admit a CL Peavey right now

I had one of the slot port Peaveys for a while, put some mattress foam and new CB15s in it. It just dropped off relatively high (~F# iirc), and we did one song in drop D with the fuzz, it just didn't ring clearly. May have a line on a 215D, but need to scrape up funds.

That is silly.This, among many other much larger reasons, is why I am divorced. Dont tell me, "we are saving, you may not buy that ____!" when you go out to sushi for lunch three times a week while I eat rice and beans to not go over the monthly food budget.

I miss my ex. She was way more sensible about money than I am. My plan was actually that, since she made more than I did, if we got married, she'd just be in charge of the money and I'd just get a certain amount of stupid spending money that wasn't needed for anything in particular. Oh well.
Damn, dude. My ex was conservative with money, but she didn't resent me buying music stuff if I was going to use it.I think the real issue there was that she ate sushi. Grossest **** out.
My ex and I got back together not long ago after a 6 month split. We were engaged for a few months but things started getting super hectic between us in that time. To fast-forward all the ********, we simply realised we needed each other despite all the trivial arguing. We still argue but it doesn't feel like its taxing on us anymore. Maybe we're a bit masochistic that way. I guess the engagement/wedding is still on.
Anyway, the point of that was to say that when we were originally together, she would absolutely lose her **** whenever I'd come home with a new toy. She didn't mind so much if it was a new pedal (until she found out how much each pedal cost
In other news, I finally got a chance to muck around with the Carbon Copy. Sounds really nice, especially on the Ray. I couldn't help myself and started oscillating the living **** out of it after about 20 minutes of normal play. I was pleased at how easy it was to get it oscillating on its own but also surprised at how quickly it could get out of control. I learned how to control the volume peaks (kinda) with the Regen knob but I want to test it out at louder volumes and get a real feel for it. Maybe tomorrow.
I thought the point of a Subaru Outback was to be able to fit ridiculous large cabs in the back.
Yeah it can hold alot. But once you start putting big items in it removes some of the tetris options.

I may need to get a roof box to hold the guitars. If I go with a bigger cab I just don't think its going to fit.
Really hope we start gigging soon. We have enought tunes so I'm just looking ahead. Guitar players Durango is falling apart, I'm not interested in 2am breakdown after a gig nore will it make sence for both of us to drive seperate cars.

I use Logic, which is Mac exclusive. It's the only Mac I've owned since an Apple IIe actually, always used PC for personal use. It's a bit of a trade off using a native based DAW that's Mac exclusive. You need more processing power and Macs are more expensive. However using non native recording platforms like Pro Tools that can also run on a PC require you buy a bunch of really expensive proprietary processing hardware to run. So it kind of defeats the purpose of saving on the computer side, especially when you figure in that outboard DSP increases latency and that plugins for those platforms cost more money. So it's a little different than buying a computer for personal use or gaming, where there's a clear advantage to using a customized PC. I looked into "hackintosh" stuff for a while, but all that is WAY beyond me and seems really dicey for stability, which is crucial for my application. If I could buy a simple, stripped down rackmount PC, with really good processing power and a lot of RAM, running Mac OSX, I'd be buying it right now. All I really need beyond the basics is to be able to run a large monitor and USB and Firewire connections and a wifi receiver, because everything uses digital delivery now. Don't need a sound card (all sound I/O runs through my recording interface) or really advanced graphic stuff, I only use it for recording.
My brother's girlfriend works at the local Apple store, she said she could get me the friends and family discount. So I may spring for a new iMac, since the Mac Minis haven't been upgraded since 2012. I just gotta review my budget. I looked up used iMacs of similar spec to my current one for sale locally and they have a really nice resale value, that's a plus.
My desktop came stock with Logic. Pretty cool stuff.
Catapult's album was recorded on logic, on the guitarist's hackintosh.
The dually fits my trunk! Yay! So a dually fits in a 2013 Toyota corolla trunk of anyone else has one or older/newer model.
Sweet!! Can it get OUT of the trunk, now becomes the operative question.
One thing I can say about my iMac, I've never had a single problem with it. It's not that bold a statement though, I only use it for recording and very light internet usage. If I used it like every PC I ever owned previously, it'd probably function like a syphilitic quadriplegic with a head injury.
I would more seriously consider the idea of a hackintosh, if it didn't seem so sketchy. I have a tendency to push every piece of professional software I use to its technical limit, either on its own or with third party software and add-ons, then end up needing support for something.
