See my "people that want to sound like old people" comment. As much as I love doom and stoner metal, I absolutely abhor the 70s worship that goes on in the genres. You can get those tones without looking like you raided your grandpa's basement for gear and fashion tips.

To be fair most of those bands either come from europe where the mullet is still considered in fashion or the south where denim isnt just a fabric its a lifestyle.

I have a vintage MIJ jazz tobacco burst with tort guard and pickup covers. I needed something to play White Rabbit on while I smoke my hookah.

I dont think this burst is very grandpa-ish, but whatever, to each their own.

I like the 2tsb like tobacco, blue, that dunable you have, sunset, etc. Not a fan of most Gibson bursts or Fender style 3tsb.

I play GK amps. Hardly the usual stoner doom choice, I don't own bellbottoms and my other basses are a warlock and a peavey patriot. I do have porkchop sideburns though. Am I too retro for you?

My fretless is burst and my P has tort and flats. Grated both always get played through a sh!tload of distortion, but its all relative!

Does anyone have any recommendations for bands similar to Hyborian, Black Sleep of Kali, Bison, etc? I'm looking for bands that fit under the whole sludge/stoner genre but bring elements from heavy metal, thrash, etc other than just sticking to the classic heavy blues riff pentatonic formula....if that makes sense at all.
