Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Does anyone have any recommendations for bands similar to Hyborian, Black Sleep of Kali, Bison, etc? I'm looking for bands that fit under the whole sludge/stoner genre but bring elements from heavy metal, thrash, etc other than just sticking to the classic heavy blues riff pentatonic formula....if that makes sense at all.
My drummer is really into this band that might fit your description. He’s from the UK as well.

Didn't know Hyborian or Black Sleep of Kali. Checked em out, great stuff. Going to have to dive deeper into them.

I'd recommend Khemmis, Forming the Void, Saviours, Inter Arma

*I'm assuming you already know of/dig Mastodon, Yob, Neurosis. If not, get on those too!

Yeah Black Sleep of Kali were a great band. Sadly they only released one album before splitting up. One of their former bassists (though not the one n their full length, I think) plays in a really cool band called Abrams. They're kinda sludgy but also sort of post hardcore or something. Maybe sort of like Helms Alee but more metal. Highly recommended as well.

Hyborian also only has one full length so far. I already listen to the bands you mentioned but thanks for the suggestions!

Have you checked out Call of the Void? It's BSoK's drummer's band, Gordon Koch. BSoK's singer, Ben Pitts, is in a bunch of bands... False Cathedrals, Toboggan, NightWraith, and he just started playing bass for In the Company of Serpents.

Thanks for the laughs. I gotta admit it's not totally up my alley, but I've done a bit of cover band work to fill the lack of gigs and band practice this year as well. Still been a ton of fun, but it's with friends and family so that made up for the lack of original/heavy tunes.

Honestly playing gigs are fun in themselves. Playing heavy and original stuff for gigs is just better though.
