I am noticing that most of the pedals out there right now for bass, feature blendable signal function.
My dirt taste has lately been being satisfied with my Hilbish. I ran it as a pre through the Carvin the other day, and it was monsterous through 16-10” speakers.
Follow up from a previous post, my Hilbish is 0007 of 0010, first run, and the first one with a custom green faceplate. I feel special....

Hasn’t a blend on a bass pedal been a pretty normal option for a while now? I have some that use one, some that don’t, and some that only blend in parts of the dry signal or change even the dry signal slightly. Bottom line is how it sounds obviously.
I think right now the only bass dirts I use that have no blend of any kind are the GK Rails Pedal and Throat Locust.

I don’t know!? I haven’t really looked at stuff beyond standard rats and muffs for a while and I was surprised at both the price and features of the bass specific pedals that are currently offered through sites like sweet water or guitar center.
If that’s surprising, don’t go boutique! Bass pedals in general seem to be getting a decent focus lately. About time!
I had a 400 a very long time ago. I never really got to use it to its fullest potential because my cabs and basses were garbage then.
I don't remember the EQ being particularly bright. It had a ton of head room; I never made it distort. Definitely a more "vintage" sort of tone.

I remember it not having the same zing in the top end as something like a SVT-CL, and definitely not the same grit as a hybrid like a SVT4 Pro. The push pull Bass and Treble boosts worked pretty good for giving that little something extra.Thanks!! The thing I remember about the EQ is that it really felt like if I boosted this, I lost a little of that. Now mine was NOT a prime specimen, so something could have been going on there.
The lows seems pretty good, but again, I didn't have the right cabs to take full advantage of it.
The 400 didn't seem like a very popular model, and the 400+ is more common. I couldn't tell you why. It doesn't surprise me that you can't find a lot of videos of it.

had a 400+. not my favorite, good clean tone but the highs were brittle when pushed and it lost punch. the EQ is fender style so not the most flexible unless you engage the graphic EQ.
I would love to give a lot of older heads a try. Amps aren't really something I go crazy for, I know we talked about it a bit ago, but I admit I've really wanted to try all the amps people loved in the day just to get a feel for what they're talking about.
I've tried quite a few in shops over the years. V4b, Prodigy, Bassman, walkabout, all kinds of Peavey's, Traynor, and countless other common ones. The Bassman 100, V4b, Traynor, oh and an orange stuck out. I dig the Mesa heads I've tried, but not the price tag. Preferred the V4b to any SVT I've tried. But outside those and the old Peavey, 90s SS bassman, and my current ashdown, I haven't tried much. I've only gigged a few amps either.
I lucked out with my Ashdown, $400 used and haven't had a single problem with it in 5-6 years of gigging. It's kind of a chameleon, but has its own character too. Maybe that's why I haven't looked around much or really gone out to try a lot of amps. I've tried most amps just to get a feel for a bass...I digress, just hearing the talk of the 400/+ and recent other talk makes me kinda wanna branch out.
If I was single I'm sure I'd have a wall of amps with all sorts of flavors. I dig having unique sounds for specific songs, maybe that's why I like dirt pedals so much.
This speaks to me. Really I see stoner and doom as a genre of "misfits" per se where the common connection is the feel (frequently groove) and theme/sonic texture. It seems to range from heavy psych to hard rock to prog/alt and all the way from rock to metal. You definitely have your weed driven tropes, but then there's so much more. You guys kinda emphasize that as well which is one of the reasons I dig your stuff a lot. I need to get off my lazy ass and buy some of your albums.

Oh I forgot to add the pf50 from ampeg, definitely one I'd like for practice and recording. I feel like that's one of those that would be great with a small cab but would also roar with an 810. Loved the sound of the ones I've tried.
In the next year or two I'm sure I'll be asking lots about amps. Once I get that bass/guitar model into production, amps will be what I think I'll dive into. Gk is another I'd like to try.
Oh and about Mesa, I don't think their amps are overpriced, just that I haven't seen used ones around me. If I knew I liked one I wouldn't hesitate to drop the cash, but not that much without knowing I'll like it.

I haven't bought a bass cabinet in 10 years and the last time I tried any with neodymium speakers,
I just didn't like the way any of them sounded with dirt. Just...not great.
I'm hoping there might be a better candidate available today.
I'm getting older and moving these Mesa Diesels and the 175 lb fridge I have
is just getting to be too much.
main amps are an SVT (that I just refuse to carry too often at this point)
a 200 watt Matamp-type joint, an old GK700RB,
and I have a Hilbish preamp and Crown class D power amp incoming.
I use a RAT and a Superfuzz a good bit.
I'm more of a noise-rock dude than a doom dude, but still-
anything today that's not a bummer schlep that sounds killer
for us dudes that aren't playing clean or even cleanish?
