Yes, Yob are great guys and a fsking stellar band. When I saw them, I got to chat with Mike and Aaron for a quick minute. Their passion and honesty are super evident. Not to mention they were the best show I have ever seen.

Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

These are usually the same people who otherwise talk through every band and spend the rest of the time snapping selfies and updating their status. Why see a band when you are going to not pay attention to them? I also don't get 'drunk guy/gal' who spends 90% of a concert buying drinks and pissing.There is a thread going on in the main forum about recording a show, or yourself while at a show, with your phone in the air. This is a topic that is near and dear to my heart but I cant stand conversing with the praise and worshipers, so I thought I'd get your take.
Someone posted this in that thread and it captures much of what I think on the topic.
It make me angry because they are selfishly ruining the concert experience for all the others, but I also get mad at what this type of behavior represents in our culture and society. A world of self-absorbed, self-important, people who are not able to experience art in a meaningful way... just taking video to share it on their "socials" and get a boost to their egos when people click the link to their youtube channel. So shallow, vain, and vacuous. They've accomplished nothing! They've held the phone in front of other people... yet somehow the video they've "shot" it so important/epic/lit/heart-eyes-emoji. Whats wrong with trying to remember what you saw in heard at show? I don't like using the H wordbut I shagging hate these people and wish they would go away, permanently. The ultimate justice would be that if you held a phone in front of another concertgoers face you'd immediately lose you ability to reproduce.
GG Allin told you right up front that he was gonna GG Allin, so he gets a bit of a break.
A guy I used to work with used to hang out with GG Allin a bit and played drums for him a couple times. He said when GG asked him to fill in on drums he told him he wasn't very good at drums and GG told him just learn 2 songs and they will play those first because they are going to get kicked off stage. He did say that wasn't an act the guy was actually nuts.
Hmm, the art/artist split, huh? I generally try to separate them. It is difficult when the art directly reflects the artist, though (G.G., I'm looking at your grave). It's even harder when the artist is a complete schmuck and their art is kind of schmucky. I've been saying that I can't truly get into anything Danzig's been involved in for decades. It's because I can't take him seriously, and he does take himself seriously. Then, he goes and does stuff like his cameo on ATHF, where he doesn't seem to be taking himself that seriously. So, I'm kind of the point where I can enjoy the music more - even though I still hate his solo stuff. It's just boring.
Similarly, I've thought the Nuge was an idiot when I was a kid, but I liked the music well enough. I've heard him more than enough though, and he ran out of tricks before I was out of elementary school. If it comes on the radio, I might leave it on. I might also just change the station until I hear something better. I'm better versed in that style of nonsense now than I was when I was listening to him.
Truly reprehensible or completely irresponsible behavior or the spouting of beliefs from an artist that isn't directly related to the art? No, I can still enjoy the art. That's pretty easy to me. Everybody tells me they think I'm a great guy, but I know what an irresponsible exit to the gastrointestinal tract I really am, and how cavalier I am in regard to my own life. I'm certainly not cut out for the collective microscope that is stardom in the modern era. To quote Dylan: "If my thought dreams could be seen, they'd probably put my head in a guillotine."
OTOH, I'm one of those people who believes they're only thinking things and other people tell me later that "No, you said that out loud. You enunciated it clearly." So, I'm probably actually lucky that most people think my thought-dreams are an excellent joke.
Someone who isn't really into meeting me that I look up to? Ehhh, I don't care. It's not a personal problem for me, and yeah, I have bad days too. For years, Albini was my guitar hero. Everyone I met that had met Albini did not want to meet him again. I decided that "Well, ya certainly don't have to be friends with your artistic heroes." After the advent of the internet and its multiple routes to interviews, it became apparent that Albini didn't suffer fools happily, and all of our mutual acquaintances had been pretty foolish, so an explanation was easily had.
Politics? No, I don't get my politics from movie stars or musicians, and I don't reject them because of it either.

One good way to deal with these sub-humans at gigs would be to cover their camera with your hand with nonchalance, or just take their phone and throw it away somewhere in the crowd
Anyways, I know it will make me sound like a grumpy old fart, but I'm convinced on of the most alarming symptoms of stupidity is taking/sharing "selfies". The word itself makes me want to use a flamethrower.
The spectacle of all those hens commenting each other pictures and saying each other how special and beautiful they are is something to be studied anthropologically.

In other news I delved into stoned meadow of doom's channel yesterday and man I forgot how much he has. Love the guy's work on getting stuff out there and promoting bands not many have heard of.
The only artists I can think of that I listen to who have done truly reprehensible things are Varg and Tim Lambesis (but I only listen to Austrian Death Machine). No problem separating art/artist. Plenty of artists are nuts, and we still love them.
Yeah, Austrian Death Machine is awesome I've got the first album on CD and Burzum is one of my favorite black metal bands. I was actually subscribed to Varg there for a while, the videos where he talked about the old black metal days and when he escaped prison etc. were very interesting but the guy is a crazy nazi lol.

I can sometimes separate artist and art. Example is the Nuge. Love his early stuff, think he's a douche nozzle. Still listen to the older stuff and enjoy it. I simply tell myself that being in Damn Yankees twisted his mind so much he turned into a douchebuggy.

New Monolord is really good! Maybe my favorite.
"Dynamic" comes to mind. Good mix of tempos and some nice melodic tunes/sections to juxtapose the juggernaut riffing.
Thanks! I've been a QotSA fan for most of my life and really grew up digging Sabbath, Cream, The Who and any classic rock band with a good bass player. I'm having a good time so far with listening to Sleep, Kyuss, Sunn 0))), Electric Wizard, OM. A few gems I've come across and have been recommending like crazy are Red Desert and 1000mods.
Edit: Also forgot Mastodon, Baroness and The Sword for bands I'm getting to.
Hey dudes, I know there are lot of CO folks on this particular thread.... I have an extra ticket to Wovenhand & Jaye Jayle tomorrow night at Larimer that i need to find a home for. My drummer was supposed to go but he had to get back to Texas last minute. Let me know if you're interested and we can go from there.
You won’t regret that show in the least! I will promise you! What a perfect opener and main act combo!
One suggestion I would give is to make note of a handful of bands that really pique your interest in the genre, and then do some digging into bands like them or bands they've been influenced by or bands they've toured with. This has led me to some interesting stuff for sure.
Lots of the roots/classics have been mentioned and are well known, but here are some of my favorites YOB, Elder, Mastodon, Earthless, Slabdragger, Cough, Torche, Sunn O))), Eyehategod, Noothgrush, Graves At Sea. A couple deeper cuts to check out (via youtube or bandcamp) Badr Vogu and Sungrazer. There are a lot of different sounds going on with these bands, but they all loosely fall into Stoner, Doom, Psych, Sludge, Drone, etc.
Also, Rwake is sweet.

Not bad. I'm unsure if it sounds better than the Cloven Hoof on my riffs. I must try it with the drums too tomorrow.
