Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

We only tried drums but we bought new ride, charlie and a Zildjian Trashformer. (and earplugs for me)Today we go and try some drum kits!!
I hope we have some time left to go to the bass amps too
We tried a Tama steel set, I would have bought it on the fly but my drummer wants to try another couple of sets before. Aggressive beyond imagination. That kick is like a machine gun

No one on a Saturday night? I’d figure a few people. Not that I gig to know such things...
Treat it like a practice and take more chances in your playing. Push boundaries and see where you can go. Even if you make mistakes, it’s a practice with possibilities.
Yeah, whether you suck or rock, make sure that none of those 10 people forget you for awhile.
If nothing else, make the bartender remember you.
I don't really enjoy listening to Monolord albums, but they were really good live when I saw them at psycho Las Vegas last year.
we played with them a few years ago, really nice guys but the music did nothing for me. having said that, they do what they do really well.
Mission accomplished. The sound guy was very cool and we got to fsking crank em up.
For a first show we did ok. All the usual nerves and minor flubs. 1 guy really dug us [given that there were 5 people in the whole place not a bad ratio lol] so I dedicated the last song to him. We had a blast anyway.
Earlier in the night the roof was leaking baad. Like a waterfall bad. Their pizza oven wouldn't light so we got burgers for free. But a few people thought we had a cool name. And the beer was cheap.
In the end, the pedal I found the least interesting seems to be the one that works better for me.Also, the EHX Metal Muff. Nothing special.
(In case you're wondering: yes, my drummer is a metalhead)
It's the clearest in fhe mix, less frequencies conflict in heavy cymbals parts. You really have to try them in the context...
@br1qbat : Excellent! Gotta make the most of the audience ya have. I suck at promotion, so that's the only advice I have toward getting bigger crowds. 
I just found out we're probably going to be playing a show with a local band that rules, who I just realized might be appreciated around here. Hawk Vs Dove:
And oZZma's talk of things muff made me realize that I could have included an example of the recording I was talking about several damn pages back. This is what that NYC reissue muff sounded like with all the knobs cranked through a GK MBF500 and a cheapo GK single "15 cab:

I've been real interested in the EQD blender/loop/signal masher pedal. Sounds like some awesome capabilities and combos, that's one I'd probably buy from a place with returns. No idea what to really expect. I've never used a pedal like it before. Love the bender II in videos, wish I could get my hands on one.
Lol! Seems like a common statement about SWR's for bassists who aren't from typical cover bands. I've never found a sound that really impressed me from their amps, haven't tried em all though. My opinion on them is similar to Carvin bass amps. Not bad, just I'd rather have one sound that just kills than 20 mediocre ones.
Great photo love the coiled cable, sounds like a good outing. As long as you had a good time and someone was impressed, I'd say that's a perfect night. Good way to get the jitters with a new group out.

Every time I see Boris, I spend the next three months Googling double necks. I can either get a Chinese knockoff and hope it is worth updating w/ electronics and tuners or get a home equity line of credit. The hardest thing for me is that so many are short or medium scale. If I could get past the headless thing, there is a Steinberger Spirit on Reverb, but I'm not doing that yet... Though they were good enough for Takeshi before he got his custom First Act (RIP).

thombo, i honestly think we could build one if you had a bolt on bass and guitar neck to sacrifice. the trick is really just getting the neck pockets right. a lot of measuring and some slow, precise, routing should make this achievable. a little more measurement for the bridge location and then of course routing the pickups. for most traditional guitars/basses there are templates a-many for this sort of thing.

I was eyeing the Robot Graves necks yesterday, but $1600 in necks is more of a financial commitment than I'm ready for. There is always the Warmoth route, but they only the strat-style body for bass/guitar option. If only the tele shape was available...
Yeah man, I'd be in for a project. Im not a master carpenter by any means but Im sure we can figure it out, especially i Justin will let us use his band saw. Yeah I was thinking warmoth or used. Ideally we'd have the bass and guitar bodies too so we could mimic those neck pockets. Dont know what level of quality your going for but squire tele's are out there for less than a warmoth neck
EDIT: also, Warmoth totally has tele necks for guitar (and bass)
