Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

The mini replaced the full size Crybaby I had before. True bypass is a big plus. I can’t say for me it’s any harder to use. Like anything else you get used to it.

Makes sense I feel like I would prefer a full size. The 535 and bass wah were on my radar and I’ve seen a couple videos of the geezer that sounded pretty good too. In a band context I imagine they’re more alike than different.

Highly recommend messing with the 535. I found out recently my wah is actually just a limited edition plain cry baby. Love the hell out of the sound, but I need to add a vol pot. I wouldn't trade the range of mine for anything. I could see how the 535 would allow you to get where you want with different basses. Also, in a duo having cocked wah tones is a ton of fun, especially with echo/delay and reverb oh and of course dirt.

A buddy and I did a duo for a year or so, loves it. Actually, the creative side was amazing especially getting wild with switching possibilities between guitar and bass voices.

Yeah man, I'd be in for a project. Im not a master carpenter by any means but Im sure we can figure it out, especially i Justin will let us use his band saw. Yeah I was thinking warmoth or used. Ideally we'd have the bass and guitar bodies too so we could mimic those neck pockets. Dont know what level of quality your going for but squire tele's are out there for less than a warmoth neck ;)

EDIT: also, Warmoth totally has tele necks for guitar (and bass)

I think there are some kits you can find on the web for cheap. Could probably take the necks in to a luthier to have em cleaned up. Takes all the hard work out.

So, anyone been watching the Ken Burns Country Musi...oh wait, this is the wrong thread, except for the stoner, and umm...doom...country has a lot of doom. Ok. I'll shut up about that.

I have a Vox re-branding of some random Dunlop wah. I don't recommend it.

In other news, I know I've talked about this record in here before, but I realized that I totally wish I had written this song while on the way to work today. I've had the record for a couple of months or so, and I have no idea what it's about, but its sound is just gorgeous.

Off topic. I find myself given over to totally fatalistic nihilism after ingesting the day's news. And I get no reprieve from trimming the shrubs due to The Man at work. what say ye, O Doomites? Embrace the nihilism?

In other news, I pine for rutrho.

I work a customer service job. Nihilism is my existence. As crowbar would say, existence is punishment.

Nihilism is sort of part and parcel with the doom genres. Lee Dorian's lyrics with Cathedral and With The Dead are pretty grim, when they aren't about witches or tripping galactic b@lls.
It is hard not to get despondent. I'm a pessimist to begin with, and it seems like human behavior always proves me right. I don't need the news to make me wonder how soon to the next extinction event. I've worked in many places over the decades and they all make me wonder how our species has survived this long.
Music is my release valve. How else can I tell the world to F its self and not get in trouble?

I do QA for manufacturing of space ish. The amount of frustrating dumb stuff that has to get spelled out for people on a daily basis is incredible. I still try to see the good in people as much as I can, but I don't have expectations anymore for anyone being able to think on their own anymore. Hardest part of it all is keeping the polite, professional face on when people are arguing or ignoring ya or just going off the rocker is the hardest part by far.

Its incredible how low the bar is. Given some of the things we do here and the same things that are on the boomers in the ocean... I'm REALLY surprised we're all still here as a species.

I know in my head, and in the venom sac that passes for my heart, that 80% of people are good, and 10% are really good. The other 10% just seems to be the ones I hear about. From the lowest to the highest. When people say I should concentrate on the good in the news, I tell them that I expect people to do the right things and it shouldn't be newsworthy.

49 year old me wishes that the world that 9 year old me envisioned based on what all the adults told me, could have been our reality.
49 year old me is constantly but consistently let down by my fellow human beings.
9 year old me would curl up and cry at what 49 year old me has seen and done to keep safe the 9 year olds of today.
49 year old me has come to understand that this is the way of things. Good people will try to do good and strive to live their lives. Bad people will take advantage of whoever and whatever they can to their own benefits or delights.
49 year old me takes care of me and mine and continues to stand fiercely and defiantly between them and the bad guys. That's all we can do.

Yes. I concur with all the above.
