Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

One of the few CD's of theirs I don't own. I nearly won a copy of it on ebay a year ago or so but I got outbid while at work.
Anyone check out the artsy doom bands that have been getting some clout recently, like Elizabeth Color Wheel, Planning for Burial, Big Brave, etc? With ECW and Big Brave, I listen once and don't like them, but felt compelled to try them again and then I'm hooked. Planning for Burial had his hooks in me immediately, the album Under the House is my favorite album of 2017 that I didn't discover until 2019.

Really interesting, basically a cleaner, bassier and slower version of depressive suicidal black metal (that's not a joke, it's really a genre, in case your not familiar)
I had the practice space to myself last night so I got to dial everything really well. I’m loving the DOD 250 reissue. I think there are plenty of lows as long as the gain isn’t cranked. Definitely enough dirt combined with my pushed V4B.

Those Science heads
Have you tried the Decolonizer for bass? I know the Mother is sort of their standard recommendation for bass duty, but who knows?
The 250 and BiFET are both classics.
I haven’t even thought about plugging one up. Haha. Next time I’m there with some time to kill I will and report back as long as they can run at 4 ohms.

There are some IT workers around here, do any of you have any suggestion to fix this problem? Or at least know any reliable tech forum, which would be likely to bring an answer?
After an update on my linux laptop, i can't access anything other than web browsers, and i'm stuck out of the admin account. The icons for everything are gone as well:
I'm stuck out of admin because i configured it to automatically go to the guest account when turned on. Do any of you know any command line that could help? (before booting, because as i said, i can't access terminal)

My new DOD filter came today. After a few minutes, I’m really loving the tone of this thing. It has a bit of a volume drop, though. May have to tweak other filters to try this tone without volume loss. Solid for my practice/dual use board, which is likely where this will live.
Wife got a uke this morning... I tried to push for a acoustic/electric one to see if it would doom... It almost happened.

Yeah, rutrho is on the right track here. You'll want to try to get into Grub options at boot (if that's your boot loader...I think Debian's still using that) and try to boot into single user mode, where a root shell is the default and you can fix whatever config has gone crazy. If that proves to be a problem, you'll want to download a live CD and boot off of it, then mount your old system's disk and fix the problem. Knoppix worked well for that job the last time I tried it.
Failing that, it is possible to install a Linux system over an existing one and not wipe your data. You have to be clever, and it's easiest when /home/ is on a different partition. But really, since it boots, I'd recommend fixing the existing install.

My 28,6" scale 5 string Ibanez GSRM25 Mikro bass, final visual mods done.
The 2 stock J pickups wired in series directly to the output jack socket, and tuned up to F# to D, like the 5 lowest strings of an 8 string guitar, or a 5 string bass in standard E tuning 2 semi tones up.

Sorry for the spam.
But I wasn't totally satisfied with how the paint splash like figure on the lower horn turned out, so I scraped some of the old paint off and repainted a bit, changing the figure slightly, as well as I extended the upper line on the upper horn slightly.
However I couldn't seem to get as good a shot of the bass without odd reflections and what not as the first one, so I just used the slightly changed figure from the lower horn of one of the new pictures and photoshopped it in on the old one, as well as I extended the upper line of the upper horn slightly, according to how I painted it, and the result, even with the photoshopping done, is actually pretty close to how the repainting turned out, which in my opinion looks a lot better:

I may also be getting a Behringer HM300. Would anyone be interested in a shootout? I have some time off work this week and need to play bass, but have no real reason to do so. Figured I love the HM-2 circuit, and have plenty of versions, so I may as well pit them against each other.
I’ve also had the BYOC Swede and LWA Left Hand Wrath, but they were unnecessary as they didn’t do anything I was interested in besides the standard HM-2.

Any specific tones you’re looking for? I love the chainsaw on guitar, but have much more trouble with it on bass. I’m odd in that I want the chainsaw tones, but no feedback, so I use gates like crazy. My favorite on bass thus far has been the Arion Metal Master, but the Throat Locust is much more tweakable. I feel the Arion has more low mids than the standard, but we’ll see if I can tweak to get there with the Throat Locust. Most clones seem to lose too much bass for me, and add too much fizz (at least on bass, no issues with that on guitar, except the fizz, which may be an instance of aging components making things sound better to me).
Anyway, what sorts of tones are you after?
I'm not 100% sure i'd get a pedal in this family tbh, I just love them on guitars and you don't hear many of them on bass, so I'm interested if you do end up putting something out.

I'm going to have to go dive back into that topic big time. One of my favorite tones I can get right now is a tube screamer circuit with the volume cranked into an X with a fair amount of mids, it ends up being super crunchy and gnarly, but uh, it turns into a feedback monster real quick.
No promises, but I’ll see if I can get something recorded. That’s pretty much my take on the circuit as well. I love them on guitar, but it’s just too fizzy on bass for me for the most part. But then I also love it at the same time...
Of course, I’ve never really played it in any sort of mix, but it sounds damn good solo.
Hehehe, nice. Looks roomy. Our new place is smaller, but the guitarist hung the PA speakers from mounts on the walls to save space and put up something besides the fluorescents for lights this week. I'm starting to feel really comfy there.
