no not an arppegiator, i pogrammed the sequence in the DAW. and thanks! happy with how it turned out. starting a new one tonight, I've been listening to Cluster all day so I'm pretty sure which direction it is going.

That's one hell of a sequence, some of the descending bits were what threw me off. Was gonna say you're one hell of a piano player too, being able to pull that off. But putting together a sequence like that is damn impressive as well.

That's one thing that impresses me so much about electronic music. I know some people rag on it as 'not an art' but it totally is.

yeah what i find with electronic misic is that you can force yourself to think beyond the physical limitations and write material that may not necessarily be able to pull off on another instrument.

i don't think so. i'll check his stuff out.

His 'color' albums are probably where to start, especially Rot[Red] and Blau[Blue]. His compositions are early [started in the 70s] electronic/synth. Sounds kinda amusical but there's usually a form or loose structure in his better pieces. Definitely avant garde.

Fun facts about Conrad:

Appeared on the 1st Tangerine Dream album, Electronic Meditation, as a drummer.

Was in Cluster, as the third member, when they were "Kluster" and mire an improv noise thing. Not unlike that first TD album.

Black metal legends Mayhem's Deathcrush EP features a Conrad piece as the intro. Apparently Euronymous was a fan and waited outside his house until he was invited in, Con gave him the tape to use.

Also if you dig Cluster and/or Neu! I recommend Harmonia, which is Michael Rother from Neu with both the guys from Cluster, especially the 1st as album Musik Von Harmonia, super cool electro-krautrock.

That's one of the things I really dig about electronic, finding new frontiers.

That last piece reminds me a bit of Sufjan Stevens, but more ethereal. Maybe it's the multi layer compositional feel, but so airy and trippy.

Man there's so many albums and music I need to catch up on during this time.

Am I the only one here who would prefer an instrumental version of Kyuss?

I like the vocals in Kyuss. There are plenty of metal bands that I turn off as soon as I hear the vocals, though. Some of them I'm a bit ashamed to admit in public, but hey I can't really do anything about my taste.

The first one that comes to mind is Yob. I love them until the singing starts. I almost feel guilty saying it. But I'm sure no one from Yob will ever know, or care, about my opinion.

My tolerance for the shrieking black metal vocals has gotten lower, so that at this point a band has to really nail it for me to get on board with them.

And my all-time favorite example is an old-ish hardcore band called Brother's Keeper. I always thought the singer sounded like a chicken.

I’m sort of the same way with the super-low death metal vocals. I’ve actually been somewhat into death metal lately, but when a vocalist comes in growling super low it kills it for me. I just can’t connect with it.

Put a better bridge on Ye Olde SX shortscale P Tuesday. Bought a Hipshot vintage-style one, and a little tweaking later, bass is sitting at under 2 mm string height, and sounds pretty good. Now, does it sounds a boatload better? No clue. But, I'm going to ride the placebo effect and and say "Oh, yeah!! A million times better!!"

@kleinenenten in the big board do you have some dirt before and some after the modulation? That's something I just started experimenting with, curious what your setup is. It's hard because some mods sound great before, some after and I'd rather not get a looper.

And I've had the same problem with my dicosimo 360 preamp. Luckily my amp has a di so I can get around that, but it would be nice to solve the problem. No idea on solutions.



I was sold on the name and the bass Andy's playing! The video is so good, another pedal to add to the 'when I can afford it' list. hahaha!

I don’t dislike it, but what I heard sounded like a sound effect. Only listened to a small bit. Seemed rather clearly spoken/sung, if a bit low.

From what I've read he's able to do that without relying on effects.

Maybe sound effect is wrong - more like narration? Like how Kataklysm lies to have some “hardcore” spoken intro on some of their songs?

To be honest, I can't recall ever listening to yob, or at least recall the vocals. Elder on the otherhand is a top 5 fav of mine.

Vocals are such a mixed bag. It's tough to get past ones that I don't care for. What's difficult for me is how hit and miss it is for me band to band and even song to sing for some styles.

Don't you hate that? If it functions better I'd rock it and it would definitely improve things for me. Feel good, play good has some truth to it.
