Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Thanks y'all for the responses to my noob question. You've given me a lot of insight. I guess if I landed in a band that detunes I'd be inclined to have my fiver in standard tuning and be done with it. And yes, I know: it means if the guitars are in C# they'll play an E, which will sound C#, they'll call it E, I'll play C# and have to call it an E with a straight face. I'm devilishly quick with that kind of arithmetics, so I'd probably risk it. Also, if they insist on lower notes than my B string, I'll dabble with octave pedals, which I like, I have two on my board anyway.

But maybe I'm just being stubborn here. :roflmao:

I’ll play in whatever tuning the band wants; I don’t especially like downtuning but I accept it. I am not, however good to screw around calling a C# an E. It’s not a goddamn E, it’s a C#. I don’t care what sort of reality-bending alternative facts anyone wants to whip out, up is up, down is down, the Earth is round and C# and E are two different notes.

In my current band, if I want to play a song outside of standard tuning, I'm on the hook for bringing extra guitars. I'm lazy, so that hasn't happened yet. I'd probably just play in regular tuning, even if I brought them some de-tuned guitars to play.

In the world of psych garage somewhat stoner records that I didn't know that I desperately wanted to get released - Ed Hall released their unreleased studio record from the 90's today. I had no idea it existed. On first listen, I sure like it more than Motherscratcher. I loves it, and ordered a copy.

Edited to add, the most Ed Hallish of the tracks is almost certainly The Dream:

TH700.jpg

New "mini" amp day. I picked up a used TH700 after using the TH350 at recent gigs. Both pictured for size comparison, even together they are superlight. My AD200 remains in deep storage though I did get to fire it up a couple months ago (after a couple years) and it roared to life.

Hmm, I'd normally say leave them off because I always end up hitting them, but it looks kind of nekkid without them. Play-ability or looks? I'll be practical for once. I vote no covers.

I was able to finally catch a listing of Idiotbox Effects' Mystery Effect of the Month club #2 - Resonant Vibrato and snapped it up. #11 - Thing One and #12 - Thing Two are supposed to be delivered on Thursday. So, it looks like I'm going to have the whole set.

Image from the website. The labels for the knobs on Thing One and Thing Two are blurred out as of this writing. I've still no idea what those two will be. It looks like there's an interconnect between the two, so who knows. Every one of the pedals has been unique and cool, so far. They range from "Awesomely strange, but I'm not sure where I'd actually use it outside of sound effects." to "Damn, that's just a great pedal, it's probably going to make it into regular production." Combining the Sea Legs' optical sensor with a Rainbotron is endless fun (ok, for me it is, I'm an idiot). The 'Ol Switcheroo is such a good fuzz I'm probably going to grab the next one I see.

Edited to add, here's a link to the product page, which gives a good rundown on what each one is: Mystery Effect Of The Month Club
