How is the Max Preamp? I’ve always wanted to try one. Does the tube side get “tubey”? Does the SS side do the signature Peavey grind?
And I forgot about the Peavey Class D power amps. Perfect combo.
As a Peavey fanatic I have to say that is a super solid rig dude. And I bet it doesn’t weigh much either?
That is nice, almost the same power amp as I use actually. Still, as a card carrying survivor of the hair metal era I feel obligated to point out how massively '80s it sounds talking about your rack. Are you gearing up for an audition for a Poison cover band?

This is my first experience with Peavey gear so unfortunately I can't help you out with comparisons to other Peavey sounds. I will definitely say that the solid state and tube channels can get very distinct sounds, and I love the ability to blend the two. The EQ is powerful, which is also obviously helpful.
With the covers on it's slightly under 31 pounds. Not the lightest rig on the block, but also pretty reasonable in my opinion.
This glitchy bastage arrived in the mail on Friday. I usually find most fuzzes are great on some instruments, and meh on others. For instance, the Super-Fuzz is great on bass and guitar, but meh on organ and synth.
This thing has rocked on everything I've put it through, even if it is always pretty heavy duty. The knob controls the frequency of it's filter; the switch affects whether you're emphasizing the glitching the high end or the low end, or minimal glitch; and your input volume controls the intensity off the fuzz. But, it's pretty gated, the light only comes on when you're triggering the fuzz, and the light starts flickering around 2 on most of the instruments I've pumped through it. But, between 2-6, it increases pretty linearly, between 7-10, it's glitch city. So, it's not subtle, but it's pretty control-able.
Hi All, stalked around these parts for a while but don't really post .... anything at all. I wondered if anyone had much success on bass with the Black Art Toneworks Quantum Mystic Overdrive? I've got a Dunwich Wizard fuzz on my board at the moment, but thinking about changing it up for something new...ideally a wizard 125b enclosure (board space and I'd like to try a clean blend pedal with my GT200), but this caught my eye and interest. thanks

Great point about disposable income competition. I know me and the Mrs spent way less as a whole, but allocated a lot towards projects and whatnot. Great story too, I got a buddy like that. Best man at my wedding, like a brother to me, but I'm lucky enough to see him every few years. Speaking of which his bday is today.

Oh meant to say that I haven't used the quantum mystic, but any BAT stuff I've tried has been good. I believe a lot of the stuff is geared toward downtuned music so I bet it should handle bass just fine.
Ah sweet. It's a really good set up to be fair. Yeah got the big box, and ideally id like to get my hands in the 125b just to keep a little clean blend. I've got an ls2 but don't really want to spend the real estate. I've messaged magic a few times about a small enclosure run but don't think it's on the horizon and I missed the one that popped up here in June. ... So I started delving back into the world of what else is out there hence the question.Wizard and GT200..that's my setup too

I have tried the Quantum Mystic. Years ago when the mystic came out our lead guitar player used it for his main distortion. I found a few settings I liked but nothing I wanted for my all the time tone. I could have fiddled with it more but decided I liked the Pharaoh and destroyer and whatever else I was playing with at the time more anyway. It'd be worth giving a try if you can find one used that you could resell if it didnt work for you.
Edit: I also dig your band and was looking forward to seeing your set at Desertfest this year. I was so excited for that... but, so it goes... next year, same line up, so, Ill see you there (assuming this poopie is behind us and they let US folks fly in

i had the big box, sold it and bought the 125b wizard. its not quite the same i find. the 125b seems more scooped with more high freq sparkle. the big box sounded like it did not extend as high and had more presence in the mids. i kind of want to get the big box back and just rehouse it into a smaller enclosure
Ah that's interesting. Right gonna do some more testing with the rig and maybe get the ls2 in the mix to see what results I get then. The mids is what I really like about this fuzz, that and it's more amp like quality. Thanks for the info!

amp like is exactly how i used to describe the big box version. the 125b just doesn't sound the same for some reason. myabe i need to turn the clean blend right down? going to try that at practice tonight.
Pretty much the same here for the QM. Never seem to fall in love with 250s on bass. It's like there's always something not quite right. I still have the newest reissue because it's pretty darn good, but for the extra cost of the QM I didn't feel like it was worth keeping. Pharaoh Supreme, however, crushes all competition if you ask me. Tried to replace that thing many times and it keeps winning.I have tried the Quantum Mystic. Yep. Always come back to it. Even if I dont use it live, our producer loves it on the recordings.
It my understanding they are holding over this years lineup to next year? I might be getting fests confused. Why don’t you use it live? I don’t gig (one day!), but couldn’t imagine not using it live.
Alright, doomers - decidedly non-doom question time. I’m downsizing my guitar rig, which means more space for bass stuff. I have my “huge”, “big”, and “medium” rigs for bass ready to go. Those revolve around various combos of RB series GK amps and Neo 410s. Now, I want my “small” and “practice” rigs, based on my GK MB200 head. Not looking for crushing volume, but I’d like decent tone in a single driver cab. Bonus points if it sounds like my Neos and I can get two identical ones for modularity (1 cab for practice, both for small rig). So, what you got? Old Peavey? Old GK? I love me some GK, and would also be totally cool with a single speaker combo amp with extension capabilities.
