Am I the only one frustrated, and mind-blown, that some sites - Bandcamp and Soundcloud - don't offer a volume control?

I think so? I listen mostly on my headphones with volume control on the earcup, so I cannot relate

Oh yeah, "Red Sea" is definitely a great record and among the things I prefer. I have relistened all their records in 2 days and in the end I have come to confirm more or less what I have always thought about their discography, that early Isis is what matter to me.
EPs featured such great tracks









Some passages on "Mosquito Control" just make me drop my jaw.
And some tracks from "Celestial" such as "Gentle Time" and "Collapse and Crush" are pure otherwordly awesomeness.
So much DIVERSITY and inventiveness in the writing. Everything was so damn intense.
They have become soooo less abrasive and mellower later, but what bothers me the most, is that they became so formulaic! And yet those records get much more praise than their early releases, which is beyond me.
I get the "influential records" blahblah, but it's mostly the same 2 riffs/drum patterns over and over again. For four f.ing records

("20 minutes/40 years" from "Wavering Radiant" has a veeeery promising and creepy start but it falls in the same ol' solutions soon after. Probably the best little moment in those records, along with "Threshold of Transformation" which has some diversity in it. And that's all for me… )
I really can't enjoy that period of Isis, all that post-rockish "atmosphere" is so bland, so surprise-less.

I joined a discord server through listening to one of my favorite noise bands, The Goslings. There’s a lot of general heavy music discussion in there if anybody’s interested. It’s called The Goslings Archive, the YouTube channel has the same name.

You know I have relistened that record by the Goslings multiple times and I can't decide yet whether if Iike it not. The stuff I find most difficult to truly understand is music that relies a lot on sound, texture etc, and not so much on structure

Good thing I didn't spring for the Grey Stache, looks like my guitar amp may need some work... The perils of owning gear nearly as old as you are! Should be a quick fix, just can't do it myself.

Also, I apologize to the collective, but I've been playing more guitar than bass lately. Lots more to improve on guitar than bass! (Though I'm clearly not a pro on either by any means...)

Theoretically, I HAVE fixed my amp. We'll see how it lasts. Back to the pedal hunt...

Found a Russian Pickle AND a Green Rhino for just under $200 shipped. Now to decide if I want to pull the trigger, or get a Grey Stache. Should be picking up another guitar sometime this week. Been nice downsizing my rig the last few months, and setting each guitar/bass up for a specific tuning and purpose. It's streamlined my practice routine and made me much more productive.

Bought it used years ago, and it was "broken". Which meant cleaned the pots and it was perfect. Started cutting out again recently, so I thought that's what it was. (It was.) But in the process of putting it together again, I didn't hook up the speaker well, so it went intermittent, making me think it was all messed up hard. But I just needed to tighten the connections on the speaker and all appears good for now. Let's hope it stays that way!

Thanks to @donahue as of today I have two PD7s. I messed around with them a bit and I liked the sound when I ran them in parallel with one on the most mild OD and the other on treble-heavy distortion. With the OD one always on, I can switch the distortion one on and off to go between a really gnarly sound and a nice mix of clean plus OD. Fun!

I had similar results running my GK Rails Pedal into my PD-7. The Rails Pedal is my light dirt/dirty boost pedal. It's fantastic to add a little more saturation and treble to pretty much everything. One of my favorite circuits, for sure.

@rutrho - You use the Green Rhino, correct? Which version is your go-to? Why did you land on that? I'm thinking of picking up a MKIV since I don't have a Tube Screamer these days, and like to have some of the popular circuits covered, just in case. Thinking I'll leave some other gear for later this month, as I typically get a bunch of cash from people for my b-day and all that.

Yep! Got a mark IV here, I don't use it a ton these days but I'll still pull it out for some extra crunch every now and again.

Songs like Haruspex, Brindle, Golden Stair, Own a Car, etc. to me they sound like more typical doom metal, but maybe trying to push the boundaries more. Post-Doom?

It would have been better if I could reharse with my drummer though. If I think that it's entirely possible that the whole Winter will pass without reharsing… I don't even want to think about it. It's a disaster. An utter, complete disaster.

I think it's quite spot on!
BTW I still have them on my stuff to listen right now. I definitely still need to digest them.
