Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

It's this small business, artist, musician space housed in some old industrial buildings. They call themselves a 'Business and Art Space". The room would be like 400 sq ft which is insane coming from playing in a 10x15 room at the old spot.
The drummer already investigated and they have a dispensary on-site, as its a business there. I think this is a done deal. Lol. If they have a distillery on-site I may just live there.
Yeah nothing wrong with active, I just haven't wanted one in almost 20 years. I started on an Ibanez then had a blue burst soundgear PJ that was active. Then after getting my jazz and PJ never really wanted one for some reason. Definitely tried a few, would love to have a stingray. There's more than a few Ibanez I'd like too. That short multiscale is one, same with the fretless semi hollow one. I'm horrible with their maiming scheme though haha!

We're starting to look for places in the spring. I want to go around washington or maybe east towards china. Hoping for land to build a shop/jam space and garage. Doubtful, but here's to wishing.
Been channeling German thrash lately. The last two times I've picked up my bass this week, I've randomly noodled and figured out a song each by Kreator and Tankard. Love those bands. If only Tankard would tour the US...
Fair enough, but many of my favorite bands haven't toured the States in years. Some never. And these days (even pre-Covid), almost none come to my area. It's terrible.Fixed that for you.

Heh, I feel your pain in spades. Covid-19 prevented me from seeing one of my childhood heroes for the second time. I'd seen David J with Love and Rockets once, but never saw him with Bauhaus. That was supposed to happen for the first time this summer. Nope! We still haven't returned the tickets in hopes that it'll be rescheduled someday.
So much delicious fuzz in that man.
But then again, I've lost all fantasies of hearing Tones on Tail live.
Yeah, I wanna take a bunch of dance music behind the Jr. High and get it pregnant. Sue me.
Edited to add: I had a friend who worked security for a Love and Rockets show in Houston in the late 80's. After they got done with their show, they found out that Slayer was playing in Houston, and Daniel Ash and David J. wanted to go. My friend was charged with making sure they got there and back to the hotel. \m/

Never been into actives, then one day a few years ago my then-fiancee (wife now) siad she'd like to buy me a bass for my birthday. I got a Marcus Miller active J fiver and enjoyed it quite a lot. Two months ago batteries died on me and didn't have spares at home so I switched it to passive. Yup, I prefer passive basses.
I go back and forth with actives. My MIJ Fender Marcus 4 is active/passive and stock for now. Have a jazz with JVX, Fretless jazz with passive JV52, passive jazz currently with a Model J set in passive. The Schecter I have in the classifieds is active EMG PJ as well. I hear a difference obviously, but I don’t think actives is better or worse than passive. Just a different flavor. I’m not much on chocolate so I try to keep everything vanilla-ish with a twist. Lol
OK, so, coming from a doom/metal background for the last 15 years, I couldn't find a local doom band that I clicked with. Then there was this random ad seeking a bassist for a Surf band. I thought, "Why not? I'll give it a try, might be fun." Turns out it was a drummer buddy of mine from a couple bands ago. He wanted to do a harder-edged surf project.
Long story short, almost a year and a half later this is the most fun I've had being in a band. We're a bunch of doom/metal guys that play surf-rock. We play with huge amp rigs, super high volume. The distortion and fuzz we all know and love has been largely replaced by huge loads of reverb and tremolo.

Anybody else into surf? After digging into the genre to reacquaint myself, there's a LOT of similarity between surf and metal, even doom/stoner.
Long story short, almost a year and a half later this is the most fun I've had being in a band. We're a bunch of doom/metal guys that play surf-rock. We play with huge amp rigs, super high volume. The distortion and fuzz we all know and love has been largely replaced by huge loads of reverb and tremolo.

I agree. Played a lot back in the 90's in a Sonics/Cramps/surf band hybrid. Started back with some local guys the year before the lame shutdown and I had forgotten just how technical it could get. Good workout to keep the chops up 
I'm one of those people whose knowledge of surf rock begins and ends with Dick Dale, so I'm very curious to check this out. Will definitely give it a listen!
Theres these YouTube videos that compare black metal to surf. They play black metal riffs/song without the distortion and its crazy how similar it sounds to surf. Personally I dig surf rock.
Absofrigginlutely! The last band I was in before this one was a surf band. I loved it. Sadly, we had to break it up when the guitarist moved away. He was awesome, could play Slayer riffs while holding a conversation.
Dick Dale was the original shredder!
