There's a riff in Carcass's "Heartwork" that always sounded "surf-ish" to me. Not complaining, love that song.
Yeah, same here. I know of the ventures, but that's it. Always liked it, just never dived in for some reason. Well besides the rad record @scabpicker did. Love that album, great artwork too!
Sick bass @ironworm. Always wanted one of those or the older one with two jazz pickups.
@Speedor did the active electronics on that fiver help the B string? I've always wondered that.
Unintended advantage to selling extraneous gear... Having the cash on hand to buy a new speaker one when one in your 410 stops working for no reason.
Related - thus far, patience in selling pedals has been rewarded. I've sold one, with another scheduled later this week. These two pedals are already about 25% of what I was offered by the other guy for 13 pedals.
Also, anybody know how to diagnose if a speaker has issues? I checked the connections and all that, took apart the cab and unhooked the speaker. No signs of damage, there are no gaps/rips in the speaker anywhere, and nothing seems to be in rough shape. It's just not working. Currently figuring I'll buy a new one, but if there's a cheap and decent fix, I'd love to save the cash.

Did you try the battery test? I'd use new wire and connect it directly to the speaker itself, to keep as many other potential issues out of the equation as possible.
I have no wire... But thus far it seems some sort of failure. There was a "paper scraping" sort of noise, so I thought tweeter at first, but when that was disconnected it continued. Once the grill was off, I noticed one of the speakers wasn't moving at all. Checked the connections, reseated the plugs, nothing. The other speakers move plenty, but not this one. No obvious defects when I removed the speaker entirely. It's a mystery.
One theory I've thought of is "underpowering", but I'm not sure I believe that is even a thing. Does that really damage the speakers? The cab is 800 watts, and I'm never anywhere near that.
Underpowering can absolutely damage speakers if the amp is clipping. Always better to have too much power on hand than too little, IMO.
Edit: I'm no expert so take this with a grain of salt.
If the AMP is clipping? I never have the amp clip (I'm never anywhere near the volume limit of this thing), but I DO run plenty of dirt pedals. If that's the case, then I really need to get a smaller amp or I'll keep messing up my big rig, which I clearly don't want to do.
My understanding (again, not an expert) is that if you're using an underpowered amp, if it clips it sends a square wave or something like that to the speaker and that can kill the speaker. I'd think you would've heard something if that happened. It's probably not what you're dealing with.
Yeah, we're talking a 700RB-II here. Don't think many people would consider that UNDERpowered. But I often play it at rather low volume since I'm not jamming with people these days. For that reason, I've been playing the 400RB-IV more often the last few months.
@kleinenenten Thinking about this some more I probably should've just kept my pie hole shut. I don't know the exact science behind this stuff, just bits I've read here and there (and who knows how reliable those bits were). I'd go back and delete my posts but that would probably confuse things even more (and I'm not sure if I still can).

If the terminals on the speaker are close enough, you can just use a 9v battery with no wire. Once they touch the lugs your speaker should move once. If it doesn’t move, chances are the voice coil has frozen for some reason. If it moves, most likely not the voice coil, and then time to check other things. Look around the surround of the speaker with a fairly bright white light for any abnormalities and do the same with the spider next. After that, it would be getting into the wiring again on the cab. If not that, I’d say it’s time for trying new wire connections and/or a new speaker or recone.
This is my experience. Imho, ymmv, etc., etc...

unrelated but i’ve spent the past two weeks trying to teach myself a bunch of Carcass songs and holy hell, they are just unbelievably hard guitar riffs to play at speed.
I haven't heard that much of a difference, really, I usually ran the preamp flat with boosted mids. I like my basses pretty bright, so never had an issue with muddy B string. At least in my ears. Running a lot of dirt helps too.
