Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I dunno- in the books Sam becomes Mayor of the Shire and is way more famous than Frodo, who deliberately avoids attention.

I feel like Gimli might be the bassist of the Fellowship.
Nah it's the eagles. Just when it appears all hope is lost and there's no chance of survival, the eagles swoop down and save the day. Nearly everyone forgot about them, and it's only afterwards that Sam and Frodo realize they would've been totally screwed if not for the eagles.

Drummers are Smeagol...they end up doing the right thing but only by accident ;)

Dudes, is it against the rules if I mention I have a couple basses for sale in the classifieds? I only bring it here because they were built for doom. Both 35" scale which is great for lower tunings. I know its not certain peoples bag, but if you like attack and sustain while tuned down, you should check it out. I love the scale; I only play 35ers.

I'm surprised that Dunable hasn't been snatched up. But then I don't know what the market is for those.

Finally got my speaker in to fix my GK Neo 410. Got to play at some decent volume too. Great to A/B my Pharaoh Supreme and Swollen Pickle. End result - Swollen Pickle just barely ekes out a win because it sounds better with my envelope filter. At volume, any perceived loss of lows from the Pharaoh is nullified. They sound 99% identical, but with different tones into the filter.

I bought a TC spectracomp last week. It was relatively cheap compared to the Keely,Diamond,Cali etc. I put on the end of my chain after fuzz going into Bk3. Sounded pretty good thru the 810 speakers. We’re getting ready to do an LP so we record all our practices. The recording going thru the direct out sounded like a compressed fart. I feel like it was yet another unnecessary purchase. I’ll try putting it in front of the dirt next rehearsal.

@br1qbat Are you still looking for a rehearsal space? I just got an email that some local venues are offering up their space for rehearsal rental, so maybe you might want to check with venues near you?
Good idea. Still on the hunt.

I did a little mod on my main axe. Dimarzio model one, series/parallel switch. Sounds good, haven't had the opportunity to run the full rig, but it does what I wanted it to:

be a bit less punishing on amps. Parallel gives it less rumbly lows and more in the upper mids.

That looks great! How do you like the model one? Been tempted to do the same mod to my neck pickup.

Amp made a minor smell today... No smoke, thankfully, but just a hint of something. First time in years I had it cranked to "pretty loud" to test out my speaker install from yesterday. Here's to hoping it was just some dust or something being zapped. Turned it off immediately, rested it for a bit, and it came back on no problem, with no more smell. Trying to stay optimistic, because I REALLY don't want to have to get that thing fixed. My recent spat of random amp/bass/whatever issues has me seriously considering downsizing and putting the money towards something new so I'm not constantly hunting down some sort of issue.

I haven't ran it at proper volume, but I can use the passive plug on my amp again. The OG pickup needed the active input given the insane impedance. I think the model one is like 12k instead of the OG's 30k. In parallel mode its got a bunch more in the mids and waaaay less lows. Seems a bit more defined and open tone-wise.
