what's everyone's favourite DI? not your usual stoner/doom topic, but i've found love in a properly DI'd bass signal and the soundman knowing to only use 200hz and below. may as well make use of those venue subs eh?

the best and simplest (and cheapest) i've come across so far is the DOD 260. passive, one in, one through, one out. thinking of velcroing one to the front of my pedaltrain 2 once it arrives so i always have the option.

Aguilar Tone Hammer. Not passive, can be pre eq if you want, but should your amp fail it will pass good tone to the FOH. On the cheaper side the ART tube MP. It is actually a line driver, but it has a tube in it and sounds decent and warm.

I had Dunwich make me a DI that has a built in low pass filter set to around 600/700 hz so no harsh end gets to the PA. But that's not all, it also has a built in 0/20db bass boost around 40hz (similar to an ampeg svt ultra low switch).

The effected signal only goes out via the xlr for PA use, and the 1/4" is unaffected so the amp gets the full normal tone.

Hey I own that now!
Ron, got a question about it, maybe you can answer it, or Mr Dunwich himself. How would i go about using the DI whilst still acting as a preamp for a stack on stage? I know he added a switch to switch between the xlr and the 1\4" but can I run both at the same time? Or is the tuner out also effected by the preamp and efx loop?

The preamp I sold you isn't what I'm talking about.

I had nick build me a new box with way less features tailored to what I wanted from a DI.

You've got a full SS preamp he built for Skip. And as an answer to your question I believe one position of that switch will send signal to both the 1/4" and XLR at the same time.

The one used on Miserable is the one you have.

It was overkill for what I wanted from a DI, so I had nick make me a bare bones DI that still has the features I would want.

Yours is pretty much a cleaner sansamp bbdi but also sounds a lot better too.

It's a full fledge preamp where as the thing I'm using is strictly a DI with a couple EQ options. I can't run directly into a power amp with it or anything like that.

Also Niff, not sure where finger noise is, but it's probably above 600/700 hz. Pretty much I'm sending lows and low mids to the PA. With an emphasis around 40hz to really move the subs at any venue we play.

got it. i have to say i'm extremely excited by the prospect of a DI solely tailored to move subs, along with perhaps a variable frequency range for the LPF. best results have been with 200hz and below so far. i might have to message the man himself, though i have not kept up with the play and don't know how busy he is!
