Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Went and saw Arctic Monkeys last night. Not bad. Pretty baffled anyone considers that band stoner rock, though. I don't care if Josh Homme produced their album or not.

Solid performance by the band but nothing too ground breaking in terms of stage presence. Not a big fan of their recent clear channel geared tunes. Was a bit bored but my friends who like them had a really good time so I guess that's a good show. They had some cool guitar. The one guitarist was playing a Simms Watts amp into what looked like a Hiwatt cab.

Two or three years ago a lot of people were asking me if I liked that band, I wondered why but didn't give it much thought. I didn't know that people lumped them in the the SR genre, also didn't know about the Josh connection. Probably still won't check them out.

I'm not sure people actually going to Sleep shows consider AM stoner rock, but I see their stuff get posted to /r/stonerrock on reddit all the time.

Their latest single talks about getting high, and they play rock music. That means they're a stoner rock band. Don't you guys know anything?

This is a big reason we did two records with anti-hippie names/themes since people assumed that weed + jam based music = phish or the grateful dead.

Honestly a peavey head not the Vulcan but the one Vegas guitar player and rushing have (on board fuzz etc.).

definitely something class D, micro, fits in your glove box. you dont want tubes, theyre no bueno.

Ton of my friends dig arctic monkeys too, there's a few songs I've heard that were cool, and I have all their discography as of like 2012 I think on my PC because of an ex.

I'd never call them stoner rock, and no one who digs them I know, would associate them. Heck I don't think most of my friends into AM know of sleep or kyuss etc.

Thanks! I had one I got for $20 a couple summers ago and couldn't remember the name. It just said peavey standard on the face of it.

Took 14 hours, but I got everything off my old iMac migrated to the new one. A couple stumbling blocks though. Apparently I need some different cables, because I was under the impression there was a Firewire 800 connection on this new one, but it's just USB and Thunderbolt, so I need to get an adapter for my interface before I can start recording or mixing anything. Also, the new Logic X is 64 bit only and my main console emulation plug-in I use for mixing is 32 bit only. I went to see if the developer came out with a 64 bit version and the site had a news item from 2011 saying "64 bit support coming soon!" and no updates since then lol. So oh well, I gotta shop around for a new good quality console plug-in, that's my preference over having a bunch of individual EQ/Compression/Analog Emulation plug-ins. It's just an easier work flow and sounds better to me, though I still use utility and fx plug-ins separately. I'll probably fund that with what I get from selling the old iMac. So I can't fully dive into the new DAW yet, but hopefully soon. Since I did the Apple Migration thing though, I still have my old Logic 9 and all my plug-ins working on there.

PSA: I watched "Pacific Rim" the other night, and really quite enjoyed it. As well as "Oblivion" with Tom Cruise, of which I was expecting bad things, but was pleasantly surprised .

Oh I can't complain about the Demeter yet, I meant I'm gonna play the Demeter more and the gk for comparison.

The V3 was annoying, but then I got to thinking this morning, it might be my like 3 year old round wounds on the short scale bronco that are getting annoying.

It was too bassy, I want a growlier midrange tone. I wish someone on craigslist would take up my offer and take my p body so I can get a jazz body, or I'll just have to put it back together and put rounds on it.

The guy was playing a Flying V drop D Into a 3120 valve king half stack. He likes a really thin harsh tone, and I couldn't undial the like tubby vintage tone.

Full scale does a better growl I find, but I just dig SS usually.
