Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Jesus, you are younnnnnng (and I am ooooooold :crying:)
When the Backstreet Boys came out I was already in the "I hate everyone" phase :smug:

:roflmao: yeah I wish I was in that phase then hahaha

So, finally went out to the garage yesterday and hooked up the rig. Hadn't played thru it since our practice space folded back in January. 1st time really getting the new pickup [I had swapped my EB0's mudbucker for a Dimarzio model 1] at volume.

A very worthy upgrade. Basically, the model 1 with the tone rolled off fully sounds like the mudbucker with the tone full up. At tone 100% on the model 1, it still goes boom but adds some p bass like punch. I love it.

Nice, I've been thinking of trying one for some time. Love that wooly 'bucker tone, but it'd be awesome to get some brightness/p bass like you said.

I want to work this line into a song.

Please do, some great writing @callofcthulhu. Hilarious and yet awesome in a serious way too.

Since we're listing our first records. Here's my first three, all singles, in order.

My allowance was $3 a week, for doing the dishes, so I didn't start saving up for full length records until I was 12.

Just wanna say thank you all! You make me feel young :D

My first albums were probably some Thunderdome CD's (hardcore euro house kinda thing). After that, Bad Religion - Stranger Than Fiction and Iron Maiden - Best of the Beast. I think.

Speaking as a representative of the meek christian nations, we eagerly await the auditory assault of your avant garde viking destruction to liberate us from the monotony of our daily enslavement to simplicity and monotony.

I want to work this line into a song.

If anyone here wants to do a reading of it I'd 100% slap the sample in a song at some point.

Anyone here have any experience with Mountainking? I am loving the demos I've seen for Behemoth II

I looked at them this week as well because I'm looking for a new OD, but sadly no experience with them.

I wonder what his set up is in that demo though. Because there is already some very slight overdrive before he turns the pedal on.

After a delay from the insane weather down south, 1st Idiotbox mystery effect showed up. Never knew a phaser could sound this good without even any gain.

Double phaser (series I think) but one seems to shift through the stages like a sample and hold filter would and width seems to adjust the step changes from glide to S&H hard shifts. But also adjusts the depth of the other as well. Each phaser has different range of speed. Oh big plus, can boost output past unity!

Ok, so mine showed up today. Matt may not be fast, but he's reliable to have done it right*, and I'm so happy with it. It sounds as delicious as the products of it's namesake.

I think it may be (some type of) an auto-cycling wah in front of a phaser. I haven't even begun to look at the board other than to look at the message printed on it. I imagine if I did start to try the trace the circuit, I'd get lost quickly (and maybe eaten by something). But when when the guitar is direct into it and I set the rate and the width right, it sure sounds like someone cranking a wah back and forth in front of a phaser. When it's got a fuzz in front of it, it starts to sound like a filter in front of a phaser. Of course, when you're not trying to figure out what it actually is, all the knob positions provide wonderlands.

Either way, half the mystery of these things is figuring out what exactly Matt sent you this time. Whataphaser seems kind of clear for the series, but then again he could be misleading us. :) The old one-off mystery effects (and several of the old monthly series) didn't even label the knobs, after all. I've got one of the last of the one-offs, and It's a delay just labeled with question marks everywhere (seriously, it's name is "???????"). So, a name goes a long way. No matter what the first stage works out to electronically, at least I know it's a phaser. :roflmao:

*Just like Whataburger, it may take forever to get it, but they made it for **you**. My sister would roll two joints for one trip through their drive through when I was in high school. We'd light them when we got in line, and they'd only be a memory by the time we paid. Worth. every. minute. - and we'd be perfectly prepared for absolute deliciousness. I had a jalapeno cheeseburger from there yesterday. Oh, if I had only really understood the beauty of onion rings in my youth. All the wasted years...

My area has a few whata-burgers and there are definitely a few that consistently take FOREVER. Luckily the one that is closest to me currently is pretty quick relatively speaking.

What's your go to whata meal? I always wait until 11:00 PM so I can get the late night breakfast menu. I'm either getting a Breakfast on a Bun or Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit with large fryes and a Dr. Pepper.... We typically toke before arriving at whata though lol

Whenever the A1 Thick & Hearty Burger show up in the seasonal rotation, I’m all on it. I still don’t know why A1 isn’t used on fast food burger more...

Man, I've never encountered a quick Whataburger. If I did, I'd suspect something was up. :roflmao:

Depending on the era, I'm all over the place regarding their menu. When I was young and didn't care about calories, it was a double-double with fries, adding jalapenos when they became advertised at no cost. These days, if I'm not so hungry it's just a Whataburger Jr. with cheese and jalapenos. But if I've skipped a meal, I'll grab either a regular Whataburger con queso y jalapenos or their recent special spicy chicken sammich (but not their regular chicken sammiches, because they aren't awesome). I'll always sub onion rings for fries, though.

Breakfast? Nope, even though Whataburger does an acceptable breakfast taco (and most of my family had a hard on for the BoB), the fact that they'll serve me burgers for breakfast is their greatest breakfast attraction for myself (mmmm, double-double at 6AM). If I want breakfast tacos, I'll go elsewhere (and probably just order al pastor street tacos if I can).

Hmm, pretty far afield of the S/D theme...so here's the heaviest song I can think of that mentions Whataburger..

I'm ordering one. 2 week build time. I will give you my thoughts when I get it!
