Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Reading what others are saying, I've gone to quite a few shows. I have that Pfizer Comirnaty 5G flowing through me.
  • The Levitt Pavilion in Denver is doing a free summer series. It is very socially distant, lawn chairs, family-friendly (I've brought my kids to a few of them). So far I've seen Devatchka, Brothers of Brass, George Porter and Dumpstaphunk, Church Fire and Itchy-O (if you have the chance, go see this band), and Metalachi. I almost don't care what the band is, it is more about getting out.
  • I've been to a few jams at a local jazz club, Dazzle, and went to a Death by Dub show that they hosted. Each time, it was assigned seating and felt pretty safe.
  • I went to a sold out indoor club show at the HiDive (Matriarch, Velnias, In The Company of Serpents, and Lost Relics). It was a ton of fun, and all bands slayed, but there weren't many masks and was pretty intense. Everyone talked about it but no-one did anything. As best I know, I have not heard of any 'rona cases from the night.
  • As I mentioned, I did Psycho LV. Much to Wino's chagrin, Vegas required masks indoors and it felt surprisingly safe. I don't think they sold as many tickets as they could have, so most of the sets I saw were pretty comfortable in terms of personal space. I will note that as peoples' partying got more intense, their safety measures grew more relaxed.
I'm in the process of setting up some shows for two of my projects (Funeral Mask and Suicide Cages). I'm hoping things maintain at the very least so that we can play.

I maintain that I won't go to a show that requires masks. That's nothing political, though, it's purely a comfort thing. I just wouldn't have a good time having to wear one that long. Like if a show required people to jog in place the whole time, I wouldn't go purely because that would be uncomfortable for my old ass. I suppose if it's a show I REALLY want to see I'd consider going even if masks are required, but I can't think of many shows that I'd jones for quite that hard.

The Phish shows are requiring proof of vaccination or negative test result within 48 hours. That doesn't seem too onerous to me.

Speaking of which, anybody ever see "The Death of Stalin"? It seems right up my alley, being a historical satire(ish) film with some solid actors (Michael Palin, Jeffrey Tambor, Steve Buscemi). That's what I'm attempting to watch some time this week. Thus far, each night has found nothing but difficulties in doing so! It appears to have had an almost non-existent US release, but I remember seeing ads for it when it came out. I had completely forgotten about it until I heard it mentioned at my library's surplus sale. I had to track down the German Blu-Ray (which plays fine here, but the English audio track must be manually selected). Looking forward to it one day!

Still sitting in the basement, mindlessly noodling on my bass, through the ancient Korg Pandora Bass, watching whatever foreign monster movie I find with the TV volume near zero. No jamming, no band. My fate is sealed. Well, until I get motivated enough to slog up the stairs. Just wallowing in apathy right now. But, it's not a bad time. Keeps me from the massive crime spree I was planning.

... he said and did. The Harris set arrived today and I put it on my Stingray. Tuned it to C-Standard and did some minor truss rod adjustments, a thorough setup will be done tomorrow.

I have to say the strings turned out to be what I'd hoped them to be. Flats in C-Standard with a somewhat loose feeling, not floppy though. To me the feel and sound great. And through the power of the Internet you now can listen to my poopy playing!
I improvised a little something in Ableton Live and exported the track with a relatively clean, an overdriven and a fuzzy bass tone. Should give you an idea about flats. :)

Time to start your career doing soundtracks. I thought I read that Bell Witch is doing that through their Patreon. One of my fav soundtracks is Birdman: It's just drummer Antonio Sanchez improvising to the different scenes.

Antonio Sanchez is incredible. I particularly like his "Three Times Three" record. "It teams Sánchez in three trio settings.[2] One is with pianist Brad Mehldau and bassist Matt Brewer; another is with guitarist John Scofield and bassist Christian McBride; and the third is with tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano and bassist John Patitucci."

To add to my jazz bona fides, I caught Julian Lage and Bill Frisell in the same week. Both phenomonal shows.

My signal chain for the OD was as follows:
- Ignite Amp TSB-1 Tyrant Screamer, set relatively flat. Invalid Link Removed
- A Fender Bassman (?) Sim called "Super Bass" in Positive Grid Bias Amp 2.

- A mix of two IRs in NadIR. An Ampeg SVT-410HLF-IR by Ownhammer mixed with Ugritone's "DoomBazz Classic Butler"-IR, maybe a ratio of 3:1.

I’m a voracious podcast listener- especially if they’re deeper dive and music related. If anyone else is in the same boat I recommend checking out “The Rigs of Dad Prodcast.” Not a typo. He interviews some interesting and eclectic folks along the way. Notables are Jon Nunez from Torche, all three members of Russian Circles, and the drummer from Clutch.

Bongzilla guys were masked up until they hit the stage, if I were on tour, I would do the same. Only about 10-15% of the crowd masked up. I wasn't but I'm vaxxed
