I accept good sir. As the dueling location I choose Weehawken, New Jersey at sunrise in exactly a years time. To maintain my honor and give you a fair chance I must warn you I am quite adept in the use of Nerf guns. May the man with the best tricorn hat win

Back when I played harmonica, I remember there were similar tonewood discussions. Many believe, for instance, that a harmonica needs to be made of the particular kind of pear tree that only grows in the Black Forest in southern Germany. You see, the famous Hohner factory is in that forest.

On two occasions where all the prominents of the harmonica world were gathered (players, traders, manufacturers, music press...) a double blind test was conducted, with famous players playing a collection of harmonicas all made the same except for the tonewood and other famous people listening and trying to tell the harmonicas apart. In some cases the "tonewood" was plastic, concrete, you name it.

None of the players, and none of the listeners, could do any better than random guesswork.

A few years back, a pro audio mag did a blind test of 50-foot speaker cables (good for isolating a cab in a room with a head in a studio). They had all sorts of $$$ cables, gold ends, etc. The winner was called an Orange HD or something like that. Turns out it was a 50-foot Home Depot extension cord w/ 1/4" jacks soldered onto both ends.

As an old, out-of-shape man, I have a couple thoughts on this:
-My ass would be planning my murder after about an hour in the saddle.
-I have tried drunken bicycling, and it didn't end well. (The "Five beers hanging from the handlbars" technique may have made the situation worse.)

In all fairness, I've never tried drunken cycling. But I seriously contemplated it this weekend during Oktoberfest. That being said, I was FAR too gone to make a serious attempt at that this weekend. Should I do this bike ride in the future, I'd imagine that I'd only have a single drink at a stop, until the final stop, where I'd have as many as I'd like. Of course, I'd also bring snacks, eat the breweries' food, etc., so I'm not looking for fully drunken cycling. Perhaps lightly buzzed cycling? If I was fully inebriated, I don't imagine I'd balance well.

Hehehe, I've cycled while on acid. Given that we are mortal, and I've had nasty bicycle crashes while sober. I both do and don't highly recommend it. At least have another person walking on acid advising you, don't go much faster than they do, and circle back to them when you get too far ahead. I did.

In other news, my singer has been known to do things like start a 50 mile ride, stop for beers at some point in the middle, then stop for another beer and a whiskey at another stop on the way back, then pass out in the side yard for hours when he got home. The man is a trooper, but I don't really recommend it.

While she tried to locate him, his wife was about as worried as my then girlfriend (now wife) was when I was MIA for about 18 hours with friends when I was young (yes, on acid).

In bass news, I am having fantasies of tube bass preamps. Anyone got any favorites? I'd say price is almost not an object for this question, but I'm sure someone would come up with a $38K preamp that comes stock with fantasy 12ax7's. So, price is an object, but not the first consideration.

No worries there - I've always been incredibly coherent no matter my state of inebriation. I wouldn't be imbibing that much, because I know I'd need to get to my destination.

I've been lusting after an Alembic for a while now, but have never had the opportunity to try one. Preferably the F-2B. I suppose I could buy one now, but I'm waiting for a good deal on a used one.

Hehehe, a Dual Showman preamp in a box? I've always loved the tone the guitarist in a previous band got from his Dual Showman. It was only rivaled by his 5150, and even then it was a close race. I'll keep my eye out for one.

LMAO…Your story about your friend mixing biking and drinking reminded me that I’ve done a beer mile…Twice

(You’d think I’d had learned after the first one, but nope)…

For those who are unfamiliar or uninitiated with this level of stupidity these are the “rules”:

I almost beat a FAR superior runner than myself bc he threw up and had to run the penalty lap (I still barely lost, but considering he was light years faster than me and I probably had at least a good 50-60 lbs on him I practically felt like I “won”)…As a bonus I got to embarrass my Wife a little bit bc I tend to get a bit handsy with her when I’m drunk (I was told I needed to “behave” afterwards)…

I won the second beer mile I did outright…Oddly that person is probably much better at drinking than myself…

I didn’t throw up either time, so I suppose that was also a “win”…

It’s kinda weird to do the beer mile bc you feel like you are almost instantly drunk from it…

Granted I would MUCH rather enjoy 1 or 2 beers on the couch slowly over time (Beer also seems to pair exceedingly well with 420 activities which are far more fun anyway), but I (sadly) can’t say I’ve never participated in mixing alcohol and exercise because I totally have…

Non-Stoner Metal (but still Metal) comment…

Took my Wife and some of her friends to see In This Moment last night…

Wife LOVES them…I kinda forgot just how much g.d. fun a straight ahead Metal show can be…

We saw P.O.D. (Which is one of my favorite bands) about a month ago at a small bar which was also amazing, but this one was a much bigger venue with more people, a much bigger stage, and felt more “concert-like” than seeing a show at a dive bar…Nothing against the dive bar setting but it was nice to get blasted with that many decibels…LMAO-Going to work this morning was um…Not a lot of fun on that little sleep, but great show…

Had seen them (In This Moment) a few times before…

Was impressed that they sounded like they hadn’t really lost a step from when we saw them two years ago and apparently their drummer and their main guitarist had COVID so a few other guys from Ded had to fill in for them…

Impressive that they pulled off such a high quality and professional performance without half of their band even though it was a shortened set list…

Have had this song stuck in my head most of the day as result (Video might??? be NSFW???):



Am trying like Hell not to get my hopes too high for seeing my favorite band twice at Aftershock in a week and a half…

We have four day passes and I shelled out for the VIP tickets and travel for that one (we are celebrating our 10 year anniversary a few months late) and after waiting almost two years, it feels VERY bizarre to think it’s actually that close and might (fingers crossed) actually happen…

After the last 18 months I might just completely lose my $hit when they walk on stage…

Sorry I’m a bit slow to respond, but I hadn’t had time to watch it until just now…

Lol-I almost bought his bass last year…

If it weren’t for the red accents I’d probably own it (I ended up with an ESP/LTD AP-4 which is practically the same Bass since it also has a active PJ EMGs)…

EMGs still sound just perfect to me…Even looking at a Passive MIM Pbass rt now I know that I’m gonna swap that stock pickup for a Geezer EMG P when I acquire that bass..

Speaking of…I liked his “Geezer Butler and Steve Harris were my heroes comment” (lol-only to you and probably every other Metal bassist on the planet including myself there buddy)…

Was trying (butchering) Among The Living and Caught In A Mosh tonight after listening to the first half of that album tonightshen I was jogging…

Still really can’t play those songs that well, but “easier” (or better) than the last time I tried a few months back…

The bass on that whole album sounds VERY good IMO…

as a student I drove fixed gears and single speeds. After a few crashes (not always my fault) I got a swap fiets (for the non Dutchies, it's a service which let's you lease a bike and all maintenance is included in the contract. It's not the cheapest, but it works)

I love Geezer's playing! But I never try to play along. I'm not at that level. Harris is a great songwriter, but I can only play so many triplets in a row

But Anthrax was one of the first metal bands I could really appreciate as a punk teen. I should listen to them again and try to play along. Thanks for letting me remember

I ended up with a few more bruises and scrapes than I had when I started, to be sure. Nothing major broken, but I still don't recommend it.

I did water skiing on acid once, had a blast. And since I'm amongst peers in this realm, I'll tell you that my absolute favorite thing to do while on it was brushing my teeth.
