Yeah I feel like company expectations actually got worse when my company sent everyone home due to the Pandemic...

The first couple of months it felt like I had a MUCH better work/life balance until all of the higher ups at my company started to panic and put a bunch of pressure on everyone below them...

I think my biggest problem with the job I'm about to quit is that I used to think that if I worked really hard and saved and really poured myself into my career it would somehow pay off and I would feel successful or I would somehow enjoy work more if I really put myself into it and that doesn't seem to be materializing for me personally...

I found out today that I am going to get to switch companies at the end of next month (Thank F-ing GOD!!!) and do something that is hopefully at least slightly less stressful than where I am now (or at least has better boundaries about when I'm on the clock or not)...

I'm sure the people I work with will label me a "quitter", but I'm so burned out that even the things I used to sorta like to do or felt I was decent at have absolutely no appeal to me anymore...

I also so do NOT fit in socially where I am (a lot of people on my team are really extroverted and really aggressive by nature- I am neither of those and I HATE the kind of person my job is turning me into)...

My Mental Health just can't take any more...If I hadn't picked up the bass and started taking anti-depressants I don't think I would be having this conversation bc I don't think I would have survived (literally- I almost decided to turn out the lights on myself in May while my spouse was out of town)...Ultimately decided against it for reasons I won't get into here, but things got REALLY bad and they have been that way for several months...Just grateful I get to break away and try something different even if things don't turn out like I hope they will...

I believe we were meant to work and work is definitely beneficial/positive up to a certain point, however things have gotten so far out of balance where I work that I think its the company culture...

I wanna work to live, not live to work (hopefully that makes sense)...

If a job starts valorizing self-sacrifice to the extent that they start call people "quitters" if they get a new gig, it's definitely time to go! I hope you can work on your depression and bass. Good riddance to them.

The fact that I’m about to quit is very slowly starting to sink in…(Disconnecting from the emotional attachment side has been harder than I’ve expected bc I hate quitting and I’ve been the outcast/villain on my team for so long I feel like it made me wanna dig in and try not to quit even more)…

I’ve held on longer than I should have because of the salary of my current job…New job is considerably lower pay, but at this point I’d rather not dread going to work and I can’t deal with most of my coworkers anymore…

Money can buy lots of things, but it can’t buy self-respect, dignity, & self-esteem…

My self-worth has been taken down so low that when I finally got another job offer with a better company it was hard to believe someone else even wanted me…

I still don’t quite understand how things are going to work out, but intuitively I feel like they will even if they don’t work out like I expect them to…

Picking up the bass and getting some chemical help has gone a long way towards helping me with my depression which beats walking out on my Wife which was what my father did when he was my age…

Lol-Now I’m kicking around getting buying that P bass I want to celebrate leaving…

No worries, I appreciate the questions.

Time is no 1 for me. Both are part of the reason though. It's something I've wanted to learn since I learned some drafting back in shop class >20 years ago. Also, I have a cousin who wants in and knows enough to teach me.

It's been a few years running, but I'm hoping to get a side gig making guitars and basses really off the ground. Nothing high level, but solid gig worthy builds at really affordable points. I'm not trying to make a living doing it, but something on the side. Maybe sell bodies and necks at a reasonable price too.

I don't have enough time to make bodies and eventually necks by hand with templates. Too much time per unit. So in the long run, it's the better option. I don't mind using templates, but really that's the toughest part aside from necks IMO.

I've looked everywhere for a decent 4 string replacement neck with 2 by 2 machine heads. The only neck's I have come across are inline tuners, or if they are side by side they are just ugly. So if you take on this side hustle, you'd have me as a customer

@Andsvara I normally use multi's for modulation and EQ. If you're trying to save space, check out the Zoom multistomp. One of the models is the size of a single pedal.

What scale you looking for? Can't remember what all sizes he offers, but Retrovibe normally has some necks that are 2+2. Haven't tried anything but his pickups, but I see tons of praise for his builds. Been on the fence to pick one up for some time.

I'm more of a reverse 4 in-line headstock, but I have worked on a 2+2 and 3+1 design. Ideally, I'll be starting out farming out either the necks or at least the fb and fretting. Time is the number one factor in what I do, outside of making sure quality is solid. Color, tone circuit, and possibly optional pickup upgrades from a highlighted smaller scale winder were really the only options I was thinking of having as actual "custom" options. Outside of that I was planning on just operating like the bigger operations. Only sell what's been built. My cousin's the one that had the idea of doing "more affordable Warmoth" which I think is brilliant.

Hi Everybody,

I have a pedal question…

Does anyone here know if I can get a similar bass sound to this song out a Fender Precision (passive EMG P pickup I mean) with some stainless steel strings and a Darkglass Alpha Omicron Pedal???… :



For a bit of context on why I’ve noticed the bass sound at the beginning of this song a bit more…

I’ve been listening to more straight ahead Classic Thrash Metal lately and I am hoping to finally see Anthrax live soon at the festival we are going to in two weeks…

Caught the end of their set once (wanted to see the whole thing, but friends that were with me that day caused me miss most of the set)…I like Anthrax, but they are kind of 3rd of the Big 4 IMO…Listened to them plenty in high school, but not a band I listen to much outside Among The Living…

For whatever reason this song seems to be jumping out of playlists a lot more…Er, maybe I’m just noticing it more between that upcoming show and trying to play has made me appreciate that bass line more as it really stands out in the mix on that song especially during the opening as the speed picks up…

I’m pretty sure he used a Tech21 Sans Amp for that album (and probably a pick) and I know he has a signature PJ bc I looked at it a few times when I was Bass shopping last Fall, but not sure if he used a traditional P or a PJ on that recording…Just wondering how much he has the J pickup on if used a PJ to get that sound…

Pardon the digression & back to my original question…

I was kind of leaning towards a true full on fuzz pedal like the Big Muff Pi Deluxe for Stoner Metal stuff, but the more I listen to Darkglass demos the more I’m thinking I want one even though I’m not sure they will have enough dirt for the Stoner genre…

I’ve looked at the Vintage and the BK7 and having a bit of a hard time deciding between those and the Alpha Omicron…

Looking for a decent amount of balance between all out thump and a decent amount of clank to my sound…

I feel like that particular song has a nice balance of the two, but I might want just a bit more clank which is why I’m considering a Darkglass over an all out fuzz pedal…

I mean-The Big Muff Pi Deluxe isn’t terribly expensive if I decide I want one later so I suppose it’s not the end of the world if I want that sound later, but wondering if I can just skip that step if I can get a sufficient amount of dirt out of the Alpha Omicron…

Hopefully that ramble makes sense as I’m wondering how close I could get to that sound w a Darkglass and some stainless steels on an EMG Passive P only pickup…

While I have no experience with this tone itself, THIS is becoming more and more evident the more I try and mix my guitar and bass parts. Many times, making a good mix is about cutting - and not adding - to the mix. I have recently cut the lows on many of my guitar drives and it really lets the bass shine through, but without hindering the tones of the guitars.

Congratulations, you've figured out the joys of subtractive EQ. I'm living this special hell right now as I am mixing someone's record who was referred to me......so much lumpy mush around 300Hz....
