On that, @scabpicker did you get the cocked wah (cop out, I think) MEOTM? I think from '19 or '20. If so how'd you like it? Was it a just control for freq sweep and boost amount?

Yes, I've got one - it's officially MEOTM Sep 2019. The knobs are un-labeled, so I had to wait until I could pull it out to test it and confirm the controls. I like it quite a bit, but yeah, just a frequency control knob and a drive knob. Not a ton of boost to it, it breaks up into its own (pretty pleasant) distortion pretty fast.

That's pretty cool! And you have to figure out what it is by using it?

Yep, usually the name will kind of hint at what it is. E.G. Supercolator is a mashup of a Super-Fuzz and a Harmonic Percolator, and the Space Mod-Delay-Tor is a delay with a bunch of modulation available, similar to the Space Yo-Yo (but they're both pretty different, more control on the Yo-Yo). But the knobs aren't labeled using common terms, or sometimes aren't labeled at all. So, you do have to figure it out.

The guy who does the MEOTM is really excessively cool. From his warranty page:

"If you end up using a wrong power supply or spill beer, etc. or even bought it used and it doesn't work, I will usually fix it for no charge. Just be cool about it and maybe throw in a few bucks for return shipping, or maybe some cool band merch or an old action figure or something and I'll take care of it. I'd much rather have it back on your board than in a box in your closet."

I don’t claim to be able to play well while standing mind you, but ergonomically speaking I can’t really ever seem to get the correct angle when trying to play seated…

Have you tried setting the bass between your legs, like this?

Man, I waited wayyy too long to reply to this, but I did give it a listen. His tone is very nice for a clean tone, and it's not that piano-ish tone that Alembic is known for. I actually kind of like the Dead's jammy parts, and I've been known to listen to the local radio show that plays nothing but them for a bit. But they'll eventually get into something like a mellow version of "Not Fade Away", and I'll feel compelled to change the station.

After listening to it I asked my wife, who's the lady who introduced me to the Melvins, if she thought me becoming a person who listened to a lot of the Grateful Dead would be a deal breaker, and would end in D-I-V-O-R-C-E.

She thought about it for a minute or so, and with a tone that made me think she was probably serious responded with, "No. But if you became a person who listened to Phish all the time, there'd be a problem."

The Grateful Dead are the most punk non-punk band ever. They constantly tried to do things themselves, often to their financial detriment. Also everyone connected to the band had an equal say...from people in the office to roadies, their votes counted the same as the band members' (though this may not have held true towards the end). Hell, they bankrupted themselves by creating their own label and making their own revolutionary sound system because the existing technology wasn't good enough. Also I love Phish. There, I said it.

As usual, I have nothing on topic to say.

I have huge respect for the Dead, but am not a fan, per se. In addition to the egalitarian ideals and diy ethos, they really blur the line between covers and originals - more of jazz or string band approach in that sense. I do wish folks could just let it go, or be, though.

Random question, I always wondered, is it usual to be using fuzz or od as "always on" in a heavy sludgy/stoner rock trio? If the guitarist is fuzzy and overdriven too?

I played for years using distortion as my main sound, but it requiers some skill to not get it muddy.

For example, for gigs now, I use Pharao fuzz dialed in, as the main bass sound always on, and in a couple others, I use Damnation Audio mbd1.

Also are you guys fan of using FOH DI? I find its better to be micing the bass cab, instead of going DI. If the soundman insists on using DI, I make sure to have my pre amp (with DI) after my distortion effects. So atleast the pedals go through FOH.

Whats the point of having awesome amps and cabs if its not getting miced you know.

I also notice alot of places are small clubs, max 100-150 people, have a gigantic PA with subs and everything. I sometimes think it would be better to just let the sound come from our rigs on stage, and just pass the vocals through the PA.

First day back practicing this morning after a 10 day hiatus…

Was pretty freaking rusty, but not nearly as bad as I was expecting…

WHAT a great vacation just btw…

Got to go to all four days of Aftershock Festival w/ V.I.P. tickets to celebrate our 10th anniversary about 2 months after the actual date…

Stayed in Southern Oregon a few days to recover…

Had almost a complete week of frolicking in the woods drinking beer and smoking some really good herb while listening to a bunch of Metal and hanging out with my spouse…

Wife asked me one day why I seemed so g.d. happy to which I sarcastically responded: “GEE I wonder why…Maybe it’s bc I’ve spent my vacation doing nothing but enjoying some nice fall weather and relaxing while listening to a bunch of music”…

Not sure where that one will land on the all time vacation or concert list for me long term, but kinda hard to not enjoy that…
