Also are you guys fan of using FOH DI? I find its better to be micing the bass cab, instead of going DI. If the soundman insists on using DI, I make sure to have my pre amp (with DI) after my distortion effects. So atleast the pedals go through FOH.

Whats the point of having awesome amps and cabs if its not getting miced you know.

I also notice alot of places are small clubs, max 100-150 people, have a gigantic PA with subs and everything. I sometimes think it would be better to just let the sound come from our rigs on stage, and just pass the vocals through the PA.

I always bring a mic with me (AKG P2), and the sound person was always willing to use it. i think there was only 1 show in 12 years where my bass went through a DI.

I remember you saying that some time back. Great suggestion if you want the cab mic'd.

To me, the only major concern of the FOH with DI is your highs with any dirt. It can get brittle and harsh. I do prefer the cab and probably should start bringing a mic. I've almost always used DI because I didn't have much option. But I could choose to pull signal prior to my preamp, which helped me keep the highs from being too harsh.

Brutal, I've been lucky that since my college career ended, I've had no issues. Granted I had a bunch of scares in the minors, including some nagging unrelated injuries.


@scabpicker, yeah I've been a little bummed that it's been slow this year. But when I saw he released the wild Kyle, I got excited. I get it too, these ones are more involved than the previous years. I'm hoping he squeaks another besides the August one. Eitherway, long as he keeps doing it, I'll keep on the list.

The end of 2021 isn't that far away, and looking back I didn't really get a lot of new stoner/doom music this year (though I did get a lot of other stuff). I think my most played stoner/doom albums this year have been:

Endless Floods "ÂGE ⱡ TOTAL"
Thou "Hightower"
Moon Coven "Slumber Wood"
Vandrer "In Search of the Path of Return"

I've bought other stuff too, but those are the ones that have received the most play.

What am I missing?

Would others please weigh in on this random question???…

Saw Metallica live for the 8th and 9th time recently and notice Trujillo was playing a Warwick (not surprising since he’s sponsored by them or endorses their $tuff), but this thing almost looks like a Warwick did it with a Fender Jazz bass (like it ganked half of another bass’s pick guard as it slept)…

I assume that was the intent-modern bass mixed with a more “traditional “ pickguard, but this kinda bothers me aesthetically just a little bit for some reason:

So…Am I wrong here, or is that bass just kinda…Weird looking???

It’s like I sorta understand they were attempting to combine a modern styling of a Warwick with a more “vintage”/traditional instrument, but it’s like I can’t unsee it…

Something about the Warwick neck on what almost looks like half a Fender Jazz pick guard…

Just wondering what level of blasphemy it may or may not qualify for when you put half a pick guard on a modern bass that isn’t typically designed for that look…

I get that looks don’t matter as much as sound, but there’s a lot of shapes, sizes, and color combinations out there and not sure I’m a fan of this thing…

It’s kinda like I want to like the looks of it, but can’t quite get onboard with it…

Thoughts anyone???

I think the pickguard makes the already goofy looking body even goofier looking. That said, Trujillo is a monster bassist and he could play a bass shaped like a giant butthole but it still wouldn't take away from how great the guy is.

I'm not the best arbiter of bass looks though. I think the classic Fender headstock is butt ugly (and the tele headstock looks even worse) and so are the Jazz and P bodies. Clearly I'm in the minority on this though.

It’s a weird looking bass for sure IMO…

I can’t tell if the Warwick neck looks “wrong” bc I’m so used to seeing a J neck w/ an aesthetically similar body or if theres something else going on there…

To your comment about the Fender headstock-I’ve never really thought about it one way or another, but I also understand why you would say that (they are very distinctive looking which isn’t automatically a positive)…

I think my question then would be-Do you suppose people like the Fender headstock shape bc they “actually” like it or bc it’s practically the industry “standard” for basses??? <——I mean this in more of a philosophical question type way-Do you (or anyone else here) think that people “like” those headstock shapes or do you think that they’ve been around so long that the masses just sort of accept that shape without actually asking themselves if they truly like it???…

Lol-I wasn’t really expecting to bring in any sort of marketing/sociology/economics of choice angle into the discussion but now I’m wondering this myself…

I suppose some things can become common objects and are around us for so long that we rarely stop to ask if their aesthetics still suit us (probably an easier call with things that are purely functional bc that can be determined by the direct benefit of their usefulness where as art or other objects that lack function are more subjective)…

The pickup placement doesn't look far off from a Jazz, but yeah it's a slightly offset body with semi classic fenderish style, that to me doesn't really seem fenderish at all. I think thats a standard Warwick body style, just with a pickguard, and I don't care for it myself. I'm a big fan of oddball and less popular body styles, but not feeling that one.

I don't mind the Fender headstock, it's not ugly IMO, but it's not awesome. I'm not crazy about many 2+2 headstock. To me, Reverend guitars and Rickenbacker are the nicest looking headstocks in the larger production category. Firebird headstock are probably my favorite overall, Tbirds on the otherhand are nice, but way oversized.
