People like the shape/look of FSOs so much because that's what all their heroes used and they grew up looking at those basses in pictures and videos. Of course there's also some inherent aesthetic merit to them, but IMO the standardization of FSOs is more due to most people (including non-bassists) associating FSOs with bass.

Yeah, not really Fender-ish. It looks like an old Teisco/Matsumoku guitar. Especially with the chrome pickguard. I kind of like it.

It’s like I sorta understand they were attempting to combine a modern styling of a Warwick with a more “vintage”/traditional instrument, but it’s like I can’t unsee it…

Something about the Warwick neck on what almost looks like half a Fender Jazz pick guard…

Just wondering what level of blasphemy it may or may not qualify for when you put half a pick guard on a modern bass that isn’t typically designed for that look…

I get that looks don’t matter as much as sound, but there’s a lot of shapes, sizes, and color combinations out there and not sure I’m a fan of this thing…

It’s kinda like I want to like the looks of it, but can’t quite get onboard with it…

Thoughts anyone???

Well, I got the Fuzzolo back together. I didn't expect a switch to be an evil pain to replace, but it kept absorbing so much heat there was always a teeny bit of solder holding three of the pins in place. After having several goes at desoldering the last three. I got bored/frustrated and just took a saw to the base of the switch and only left the pins behind. After there wasn't anything left to absorb heat, the three annoying pins were easy to remove. Wish I'd gotten the saw out a week or so ago. That poor burned little board - it's ugly now, but it works like a champ.

I never got to play with it much before my singer got it run over. It's pretty heavy duty two knob fuzz, only pulse width and volume for controls. Your volume knob is the gain control for the fuzz. When it's being fed with the SD Quarter Pound, it comes on in a pretty hairy growl, that's all it cleans up to and it comes on like a switch when you give it any signal at all. It starts to get pretty glitchy around 4, and anything above 5 sounds like it would be right in place in The Cherub's Heroinman.

It's a bit like a much less controllable Zvex Mastotron, but I would have to tweak the knobs a lot on the Mastotron to exactly match its sound. I like it, and I may just get to keep it. I told my singer that I had fixed his pedal and he didn't seem to want it back. He told me to build it into my pedal steel. I think I'll just hang on to it until he asks me to bring it over.

Yeah I don’t think he’s like super tall, but that dude is kind of a freaking animal (I suppose when you spend the majority of your time playing music and surfing I’m guessing that you get a pretty low stress life along with that)…

Hopefully I’m still in that kind of shape when I’m that age…

Anybody have thoughts on the Musket fuzz? Always wanted one, though I have no specific need. If you can compare it to the Pharaoh Supreme or Swollen Pickle, even better. Thinking I may have to snatch one some day, as it used to be a go-to for all sorts of people. Still looking to find my Muff/clone-alternatives.

Listening to this at the moment in honor of the fact that it’s almost Halloween…

While technically not Stoner Metal per se, there are definitely some epic riffs in this song IMO:



Sad they never got more attention/acclaim bc this is the kind of thing I like to see from a Metal band-Good solid song/riff structures and unique vocals with some epic artistic aesthetics thrown in for good measure…

I don’t have the exact musket circuit, but the Blunderbuss, which is a version they did with Ge and Si transistors. I used mine for both guitar and bass, as well as my old Swollen Pickle. Comparatively, the Musket/Blunderbuss is way more flexible and can cover the same ground as the Swollen Pickle of you dial it in right. If you can find one, get it.

Nobody cared for her, when she for sale (and nobody took good care of her, while she was in custody). So I stepped in. Out of principle, but also because I sort of like underestimated, cheap-ass instruments. After some TLC and fixing up, this 80's entry level machine (with a deliciously light birch plywood body, BTW) is ready for a couple more songs.

MORE flexible than the Swollen Pickle? Dang. Sounds intimidating.
