RE: Can you do X with Y instrument?

This recording (and pretty much every other Big Black recording) is made of sounds that no person at a music store in the 80s or in the present day would be advising you to make. I'm pretty sure that Dave Riley is using delay and/or reverb on his bass in different parts of this song. Heck, he was an engineer on The Electric Spanking of War Babies if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me. Everybody's tone is something a cork sniffer probably wouldn't recognize as a guitar, but they all mesh beautifully. It rocked backed then, and it's pretty hard to kick its ass now - and it's a live recording. They thought about how the tones worked together.

Heck, back then folks thought of them as Industrial music, because they used a Roland for a drummer. I just think of them as Big Black, no real category works. But if your sound doesn't X but it still fulfills ya, well, then just call it Y. Problem solved.

But you do realize that you have to mod it...heavily? :D

WAY ahead of you My Dude…

Already have the SH77s, a black pick guard, and some Geezer EMGs sitting on my table…

Just gotta find the time to get it upgraded now…

Jammed along to Master Of Puppets tonight and can’t wait to play some Sabbath and some Maiden on that thing…

Speaking of pick guards…

Does anyone here know how to get a custom pick guard???…

I looked on Greasy Groove, but their Web site was confusing IMO about how to go about ordering a custom pick guard…

Think it would look completely bad@$$ to get a black pick guard and put an oversized White Zombie logo on that thing (this one I mean):

Thanks! \m/

I think these guys do custom pickguards:
earlpilanz | eBay-winkels
Or maybe Google "custom pickguard". I know they're out there.

Thank you…I have actually looked on Google as well even though it’s been a few weeks…

‘I’m sure there’s a site out there for it somewhere, was just wondering if anyone here has used anyone in particular for a custom pick guard and what all was involved……

I feel like there’s gotta be sites out there that will do it, I just haven’t really found one yet…

(Just didn’t want you to think I was too lazy to ask the Interwebs and personal advice/experience here is always superior to a Google search IMO, hence my question)…

Thanks! \m/

Anyone ever dealt with Cheaperpedals.com? My singer asked me about overdrive pedals this weekend, and I realized that other than a old Ibanez SD-1 or the TS-9 clone in my That's No Moon, I don't have any real overdrive/distortion pedals. I usually just pump the signal using some sort of boost into an EHX English Muff'n (basically a JTM 45 preamp in a box), or use the preamp of my amp to get overdrive.

So, I grabbed a few Caline OD clones. A CP-20 Crazy Cactus clone of a Fulldrive 2, a CP-74 clone of Dyna Red distortion, and a CP-99 tweak of their Klon Centaur clone. All 3 for about $120. I really had to stop myself from grabbing more.

Tonight I went to see live music. It was the first time in 25 years, believe it or not. British blues rock band called Catfish. They were good! I should do this more often, like for instance every 5 years.

Wow, I think that I may have gone 10 years without playing a live show in my adult life, and that seemed like a vast wasteland. I went and saw many, many bands in that decade. The year and a half when things were shut completely down here were probably the longest I'd gone without seeing a show. Before that, you'd have a pretty good likelihood of accidentally walking into a free live show anywhere I've lived, as long as you walked around in the right area of town. Things are trying to open up around here, but it's still very weird.

So, yeah, I agree. You should do this more often.

Tonight I went out w/ the family unit for the Halloween. Ended up in the high rent district where EVERYBODY goes and the streets were PACKED. I was done after ~5 min. of that horsesh1t.

Heh, I don't live in what I think of as a high rent district, but we did have a lot of trick or treaters. I hid downstairs most of the time while my wife manned the door. We had enough that we ran out of candy, and she turned the lights out while I had to go get more. Of course, we only had three or four groups after I made that run. So, yeah, hopefully we figure out something to do with this candy besides eat it.

We could just hand it out to random children, I guess. But that's weird when you do it any other day of the year...

Never used that specific site, but I've used some of the pedals on there before, such as some old Joyos. Never had any specific issues, though I have since moved those pedals on.

Bah humbug.

Lol-I didn’t even turn out front porch light on (speaking of Bah Humbug)…

Wish you had my weekend which was spent mostly getting blazed and binge watching horror movies (although truthfully that is not that different from how I spend most weekends)…

At least Halloween is still a fun holiday…

Now this other holiday coming up on December 25th…F- that nonsense…

Pardon the rant, but I cannot STAND Xmas…

Thanks! \m/

That is one sweet pickguard, really works with the fretboard, body, and everything as a whole.

I did! I'm hoping one of these days to get back together with those guys. Having a kid messed up our momentum, and now, all of our schedules are different. We gotta find a way to make it work, though!

I'm sure part of it helped that we all play more than one instrument. The "lead" guitarist actually started on bass, so he wants bass to sound good too. I often played guitar for a few songs, and wanted both to sound great. And the third guy also played drums. We all wanted to make sure it all worked for us. And none of us has much of an ego. It was a great hang, too! We were all metalheads that listen to anything heavy. Our songs went from thrash, to death, to doom, to weird rock-y instrumentals. But it was all fun, which is what matters.

Sounds almost identical to my situation. We'd still be going strong, instead of the occasional/almost yearly jam. But between me moving an hour away (which doesn't impact much) and us all having kids it definitely has been hard.
