Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

That place needs a landscape artist for that yard.
We uploaded a few less-than-stellarly-mixed demos on our bandcamp. We're pretty happy with them...first gig coming up on 7/29. Stoked!
You should've seen the rest of the neighborhood then. Lol. It's Detroit, dude. If the grass isn't 3ft tall, it's considered landscaped. Haha
It's good to have a laugh, thanks. Despite some real messed up areas, I'm just glad that there's renewal going on on almost every block when I'm having to drive through rough hoods now. I go through a lot too when I'm headed to some of the plants there.
The Packard Art House is run by an amazing artist from Berlin by way of Brooklyn named Uta. She was super cool. The house itself sits in a neighborhood that thankfully had most of the dilapidated houses leveled, so theres a lot of grass fields and some woods creeping back in. The closest neighbor is like 2 blocks away.

Telekinetic Yeti / Stinking Lizaveta / Somnuri was an awesome show last night. Highly recommend catching them if they're touring in your area! I've been wanting to see Stinking Liz for years now and they did not disappoint.
Finally played again after a few weeks off. Per the discussion then, I now have blisters AGAIN... But all is good. Taped up my fingers like I used to when I worked in the factory, and I'll keep playing. Determined to get CALLUSES, and not blisters.
While playing, I was messing around with my Rats again, and this time, I've landed on the Bass Mountain and Tremond as my favorites, ousting my Volt Thrower clones. I'm a bit surprised, but it's what the ears liked!

Played enough that the taped up fingers still hurt! So I broke out the pick and got to work learning this German thrash masterpiece. Learned the whole thing tonight - it's amazing how productive a break can be. I had it all down in my head before dinner, came back to it afterwards and it was suddenly a lot smoother to play. Never ceases to amaze me when that happens.
I also set up and tweaked my "headphone" rig. It's a beast, as it's really built off of a cheap PA and a bunch of other stuff cobbled together, but I got it sounding pretty decent for bass practice. Plus I can record with it as well as using it for silent practice for up to four people with headphones, so I think it's pretty awesome. AND I won't annoy the wife when I want to play later at night. So it's been a pretty great day!

@br1qbat, sounds awesome! Haven't had a chance to look yet, but I'm guessing that it's near the old Packard plant? That area between the GM Hamtramck, Chrysler Jefferson and Mack plants, and all the old abandoned plants is ripe with a lot of art houses and renewal. About to be headed down there today, I'll have to see if I can swing by that place to check it out.

I normally go straight to grab a beer and just jam, noodle, etc to pull as much cathartic juice as I can for the short reprieve. Thankfully most times I end up with some scratch recording of a cool riff or song idea, but I haven't sat down ever to expand any of them yet.

I did that for a LONG time (minus the recording), but then I ended up just getting frustrated that I didn't go anywhere, which led me to being annoyed at my bass. I've got to figure out a way to quickly record something. I can't tell you how many times I've written what seems like the bulk of a song only to have it disappear the next day after adulting for a while.
Can't you do that with Garage Band or some such thing?
Kept tweaking my Rats today - and wouldn't you know it, my favorite settings are incredibly simple. Both of these give a nice cutting tone with a bit of clank (but NOT djent). Think a modern thrash tone like Overkill or Exodus but with a bit of hair. And it's not a night and day difference in brightness between my clean tone and the Rats.
Frost Giant Bass Mountain - Literally every knob at noon, except volume to taste. MOSFET clipping. Done. Criminally easy to dial in these settings, but it took me WAY longer than it should have to figure out... Not sure if I'm happy or annoyed to have found that these are the settings I like!
Blue Colander Tremond - Blend and Distortion noon, HPF max, Tone 1:30, volume to taste. Middle diodes (none!), and Master Volume as needed. Again, pretty easy, with no in-between settings or anything like that.
So now I've got my 5 tones down - and they all pretty much work for anything I play. Just depends on what tone I want at the moment. I've got clean, "tube dirt" (Pork Loin), "smooth distortion" (MBD-2), "rough distortion" (Bass Mountain or Tremond), and fuzz (Pharaoh Supreme).
On the topic of Rats, I never hear much about the Bass Mountain or Tremond. Wonder why that is? Seems like the few people who have tried them love them, but all I ever hear about is Broughton, Dunwich/Magic, and Fuzzrocious. Just idle rambling here.

What's your favorite setting on the Pharaoh Supreme? I got a regular Pharaoh set to the Germanium diode setting. I believe on the regular Pharaoh they are asymmetrical. Got the other toggle set on Lo with the Tone and High face away from each other, Tone is 8:00 and High on 3:00. Volume past noon and fuzz set low.
