There are a lot of bands dying to play out but not very many venues to play unless you do pop covers. When we lined up our first gig at Oozlefinch Brewery on 7/29 we had metal bands falling all over each other to play...for free, more or less. Hell, we had people from our own practice space complex show up and let us know they want to get in on next time.

The scene feels ready to become something pretty soon but we'll all see how that goes.

Sounds like a good time to start booking shows. In our area several of the bands have started booking their own shows and trying to build a scene for heavier music. There's probably only 5 or so venues who host doom shows but it feels like it's growing.

I feel like sludge, doom, and stoner bands tend to pull the same crowd. I don't even know what we are. We've been likened to early 2000s Neurosis and Amenra and Isis. So assume we are in some area of the post-metal to doom spectrum.

It's been an odd weekend. Saw Oppenheimer, it was a good movie, but not great. I dunno, I'm familiar with the story from other things, so there wasn't too much new for it to reveal. Maybe they didn't make it for me.



That sucks, but of course if I was offered a choice of well prepared chicken fried steak and equally well prepared fried chicken I'd probably have to think awhile.

In related news: I'm starting to get a sneaking suspicion I'm allergic to wheat. Ugh, I live for bread and breaded fried food. If my suspicions are confirmed, I expect I'll have few problems writing gloomy, self-pitying music for a few months.



I think he's been the master of that for ages. I saw them earlier this year, and it was really basically as good as when I saw them in the early 90s, only it wasn't nearly as blisteringly loud this time (all of the shows I've seen this year seem to manage the volume and balance better. I've come out of the last few without my ears ringing!). Looks like Lou is still playing the Gibson he was playing earlier this year, verrrry niiice.

That's what I hear, it was basically a master class on sonic space IMO. And yeah Lou was great too, real solid tone.

@Jolagh right on, thats a hell of a chain, and I thought mine was complex. I dig the midi idea, but i dont know if i wanna go down that rabbit hole.

Still catching up, so I'm sure I'll have new replies. Good to always come back to a bunch of reading between my cyclical hectic schedule.

Any of you Doomers have experience with this pedal? I just found out about it but couldnt actually find a video where Doom was being played to promote it From the price tags Ive been seeing I would expect nothing less than being able to open the doors to hell with it.

Finally found a way to get a 4001, though it is a MIJ Electra copy.

Planning on replacing the bridge pickup and bridge and, eventually, replacing the binding. That and have a replicated Electra water slide logo on the way to place onto the truss rod cover.

Here is my 1977 Greco neck through. I bought it off the original owner who never did learn to play so it stayed in its original hardshell case for decades, unfortunately he rubbed the name off the truss rod cover. He posted it for $200 but I secured the deal by offering $300 to eliminate counter offers. I thought I was going to have a stroke as I waited for his reply while watching the view #'s steadily climb.

Gotta admit, these beauties kinda have me frothing for the Rickenbacker I've never had. I'd be totally happy with a copy, but the only listing for one that I can find right now on Reverb is a tobacco burst Fernandes copy that would only save me about $300 off the real thing in black. Ahh well, I can add it to my alerts and if nothing comes up like the ones you guys found, maybe my wife will need an idea for a present.

In my eternal quest for "the tone", I picked up my old Motorbass pedal again today. Forgot how much I loved that thing. And it does a great modern metal tone similar to my MBD-2. So the B3K clone is already off the board, but in reserve with the PD7 for modern metal tones. I also switched out my Pharaoh Supreme on the second board for a Swollen Pickle again, just for variety, and did the reverse on my guitar boards. Been a grand time jamming lately!

A rickenbacker had been on my Xmas list for years, If I hadnt found the Greco than a Rickenbacker would still be on my Xmas list for years to come.

Yeah. I should be able to fit it all on a 2 layer 14.5 x 23 inch pedalboard kinda similar to a https://www.schmidtarray.com/ pedalboard that I'm in the process of building. It'll all be controlled by the gig rig so I don't need to see most of the pedals.

I figure once we are done refining this setup I'll have the one pedalboard and probably have one bass and one guitar amp. Thinking about trading in my meatsmoke for a solid state amp like a darkglass 900 or something just to make load in easier. The meatsmoke just has such a big room filling sound. The darkglass stuff sounds good but it doesn't fill a room the same.

Looking good, and I know the feeling about your meatsmoke. It's the same for my BTA, fills the room, sounds a bit full or something. I kinda want to move it to get more things I'd like, but I know I shouldn't get rid of it as it's killer for recording and shows that I don't plan on bringing a full rig, that or something smaller where I can bring a small cab to keep trips and weight down.

I think @br1qbat kills it with the bass block, I'm blanking on the make though. Love their tone stack and its small but loud and seems hefty.

By the way, I can't blame ya for using midi. Hell of a set up you got, and I wish I'd do something like that. I tend to keep it a bit simpler, though with my target of a Zoia soon, that may change. One thing I do tend to do though is place pedals that I do want to stack or engage at the same time in spots where I can get at em with my heel and toe or whatever simultaneously.

I should grab some photos of my set up. I do similar routing to each amp, but I also tend to put groups of effects into loops so I can also jump in and out of multiple effects at a time with a single Stomp. Basically dumb midi, lol.

Ask in the "coming and going" pedal thread, I recall seeing a lot of love for the doom there, not sure which version though.

I have the OG You're Doom pedal, and I'll say, I've never played anything else quite like it. And the prices are so damn inflated because they sell out immediately. I think this last drop of 100 lasted a minute. The one before was 30 seconds or so.

Holy smoke!. I would really love to hear one hooked up to a bass tuned to B playing against a drum beat at about 65 bpm's.

I don't think so. Here's the blurb from the card that came with the Fett Drive:

An original chunky overdrive circuit using 4 JFET transistors, 6 inline germanium diodes, 2 silicon clipping diodes and a unique pre-drive low cut/boost, post drive high cut/boost tone filter system.

The blurb from the Destroyer Bass Fuzz's card:

A single germanium fuzz with blendable analog octave up, and two separately tuned resonant filters.

I can attest that the filters are really quite resonant, and still very pleasant on the fuzz. Out of the box, it sounded like it was ready to play NIB. Either way, they don't remind me of another pedal.

The pre-orders for the second Star Wars themed bass mystery pedal went up last week, BTW.

Yeah, I have an original Super-Fuzz on hand and several clones. I didn't think about it before you mentioned it, but I'm listening to a guitar track I did earlier tonight to fool around with the Fett, and it does have what seems like the flavor of a much smoother Super-Fuzz in there. I was running it out in stereo through my Boss RE-20, and the side I stacked on top of the Pessimiser sounds especially huge and Super-Fuzzish (the side going through a Behringer BDI 21 sounds quite fuzzy and nice, too).

When I first opened it and read the name, I thought "hmm, an overdrive pedal?". Nope, it can do that, but at extreme settings all those diodes seem to come into play and it fuzzes right on out. It doesn't quite go as crazy and sputter on fade out quite like the SF will, but it's fade is nice. Looking forward to bashing other pedals senseless with it. Heck it even sounds nice at less extreme settings, might just use it as a preamp in some situations.

Either way, I said eff n it and dropped the cash on all 3 of the second releases. Huge star wars nut meself.

Yep, I'm a complete fool for his Star Wars themed stuff. I'd almost feel like a fool for loving his flaunt of Disney's IP, but the pedals really are damn nice. The singer in my last band had a Han-Taun (he's who turned me on to Idiotbox), he'd set it all kinds of different ways depending on his mood, and I can't think of a time it didn't sound great. I keep thinking I'm going to grab one, but I have a Klon clone I never use already. Bleah, I should just grab the next one that comes up on Reverb for less than $100 and decisively end my dilemma.

I got my Destroyer Fuzz over the weekend and it’s quite the animal. I have rarely heard a fuzz pedal have such a wide range of tones like this one.
