Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Making good progress on the new pedalboard. Changed the configuration a little as I'm experimenting more.

Unfortunately looks like my squire bass vi has a microphonic bridge pickup. Has some of the most horrible uncontrollable squeeling feedback any time I put gain on it. Sounds fine with no gain, but if I turn the amp gain up or any drive pedals or even a compressor with some volume boost and it starts squeeling uncontrollably. Trying to decide between a lollar bass vi set and a chris novak set.

I've messaged Chris about a custom set. His production set sounds great for the middle a nd bridge for the more trebbly guitar sound I'm looking for from those positions, but the lollar set sounds more bass like on the neck; which due to the way I'm splitting my signal is more what I'm looking for. If I can get him to wind me a more p bass sounding neck pickup and more like p90 sounding bridge it'd be perfect. Otherwise I may buy a lollar for the neck and put one of his in the bridge and middle position.

Thats intense, reminds me of the bass player for the Meditation Doom duo Zaum. That guy runs 33 pedals.

Yeah I'm also prepping up for a drum and guitbass duo. It can be tough to fill up all that space as just a duo.

Hopefully it doesn't take too many 100 dollar bills. The budgets not that large lol.

On a related note, I just got the dual amp set up wired and (miraculously) making sound. ABY A feeding the right side board, high passed through the HX stomp into a Peavey Valve King 1x12, with B feeding the left board into a Genzler MG800 and NC 212. I have yet to get any real volume going for fear of permanently damaging my children's ears. Tomorrow the house is empty for two hours...

Nice setup. It's hard to go back to a mono rig when you get used to the stereo setup

I too use a 5 string set and toss the highest string. I use DR Lo-riders with the .130 B. Also play in B-E-A-D but A std would be no prob. So I'd use whatever set you normally like just in the 5 string version and go from there. Nut will need some filing and obv the action and likely truss rod, etc will need a tweak.

With all those knobs, I'd never play an entire song. Hell, I might just hit a note and start knob-twisting. I gotta go simple or they'll find me in my basement all desiccated and curled up like a dead spider.

A lot of the pedals are set, which is why I have so much dirt. I do more tap dancing than knob twisting.

I do the same thing with my strings too. I had to also drill wider holes in my bridge to fit the fatter strings. Just make sure to take your bridge off if you do this because you don't want metal shards getting near your pickups. I use the DDR drop down tuning 5 string set

For my bass we always played in drop B tuning so it was B F# b e as the tuning. I started ordering string joy custom sets. Probably a little more than just using a standard set but they have a tension calculator and could design a really balanced wet which was nice to play on.
