Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I'm getting that unique pain of a knuckle deforming. It usually lasts about 3 days, then, when the knuckle is done mutating it goes away and I am left with a funny looking knuckle. Middle finger, left hand, first knuckle from the end this time. Stay away from the arthritis, kids.
Ouch. Knuckle and deforming are 2 words that should never ever be right next to each other.
I kinda wanna see pics... (Do I wanna see pics?) Sounds pretty awful. My wife has arthritis and plays violin, and I have always secretly worried it would stop her from playing. So far, nothing like that is happening, which is lovely.
I found this band on Doom Charts the other day. Pretty cool stuff. Nice bass tone. Kinda reminds me of Camel Driver a little.

Sucks to hear Kaa, arthritis sucks. I remember after the second break, maybe 3rd, the doc said he said that my options were deal with the pain of get the knuckle fused...middle thumb knuckle on my dominant hand. He made a comment that my knuckle looked like a 70 year old's. I was 20 at the time and this was like '08. Thankfully I said I'll just deal with it for now. It still fatigues quick, doesn't have the strength it did, and hurts when the weather changes a lot, but I'll take it for now.
Granted this was a bad injury, gamekeeper's/skier's thumb they called it, IIRC. And a chunk of bone went with the ligament.
If you don't know of em, check out high kicks. Great bass and drum duo and seems to do a great job filling the space. Year of the Cobra too.
Same, though I think I stretched my limit, I can still keep it a bit simple for now.

Well, it's not really all that weird looking. Unless you were looking at them you'd not notice. Just old dude hands. If you happen upon a geriatric, take a gander at their mitts. Likely mine look like that to a lesser degree.

I kinda want a Rubberneck. And I have a weird lust for a humble Boss DS-1 for some reason. Thankfully my Electric Mistress killed my pedal GAS as it takes up like a quarter of my pedalboard and now I have no room for anything else. Lololol

Since I started playing country with my other band I've been listening to it ALOT. I've always grown up around country but it was usually modern trash country, which is among the worst things to ever enter my ears, or 80s and 90s pop country which is alright. So when I started listening for myself I was drawn towards 60s and 70s music and was really surprised to find so many songs with heavy guitar effects, even... distortion
in some cases. I started reading into country's contributions for instrument effects and learned that country is just as important as rock music. Anyway here's some songs with interesting effects that caught me off guard the first time I listened. I'm interested to hear what y'all think.
The distortion effect from this Marty Robbins song was reverse engineered and would become the FZ-1
and a few Johnny Paycheck songs because they have good basslines and he's awesome. Take me back to when country singers called cops "old smokies"

Hehehe, if you're into country, it can get weird. I was in a band that was covering this, and I was playing guitar. I heard it the first time and thought "Oh yeah, that's easy. Figure it out in a few minutes."

Merle Haggard I got to see live opening for Bob Dylan a long while back. Awesome.
Saw Willie Nelson and he kicks ass for being like 90! He had Alysson Krauss opening [wow, what a voice...vavoom] and had a tiny band : him, bass drums, piano, and pedal steel. Willie still brings it 110%. Great show
My wife is a colossal Waylon fan so I've heard oodles of him and I dig it. I also recommend Townes Van Zandt.
