Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Been a rough week. Wednesday afternoon got some terrible news we lost a good friend to an apparent heart attack. Only 54. Rob was a larger than life guy and THE 'scene guy' in the Detroit area. If you were in a doom/stoner/punk/metal/psych/heavy band, you knew him because he was the guy that knew everybody and was seemingly always at your show. And if he wasn't, it was only because he was across town seeing a different band. Lol

A great bass player too. The pic below is from a few years ago with his stoner rock band Toecutter. I'm going to be standing on this same stage tonight, and it's going to be so damn weird not to see him right in front yelling 'Right on!' in approval.

He was/is so beloved among the scene several of his close friends and 2! different venues have already put together a Fest/Memorial and we've already been added on to play. Which is frankly, an enormous honor.

To have met the man was to love him. Heartbroken and teary-eyed, I'm going to turn it the [redacted] up and play like a mother[redacted] for him.
Man, that's terrible. Send my condolences to his friends and family, and rock the f**k out for him.

O Stoner Doom Thread, I ask you, is it acceptable that I am completely happy when jamming along to songs alone in my basement? I was doing my thang last night, and having a jolly good time just playing rockstar to an audience of none.
Not at all acceptable, but only because I'm jealous. I enjoy jamming out on my own, but still hope one day to have a band and perform.

It is acceptable, its all some of us have. Sounds like my experiences., it sucks not being in a band and Ive been waiting for 3 years to get going again. The city I live in has close to one million residents and no Doom or Stoner metal scene. Literally 1 Doom band, 1 Black Metal Doom band, 1 Psych Doom band (my previous band) and 1 soon to hit the stage Black Metal Funeral Doom band. Its fn' lonely here for outcast genres. The main scenes are Hardcore and Grindcore, everyone screaming their fn' guts out at warp speed for 30 fn' years and counting :(

Nothing music related, but, after hella smashing my beloved old Jetta last Saturday night, I got a new car yesterday.....a Jetta. Waaaay too many electro-gadgets, but it does have a manual 6-speed, and a decently strong engine. Like driving a Kemper/Fractal/Helix. I'll just find my favorite settings, and never touch the controls again.

Hey everyone, been a while again. Wondered if anyone had the latest damnation audio mbd on their radar? Looks pretty sick and V2 was awesome.
Hope everyone's dooming ✌️
On my radar, yes, but the very limited videos I've seen/heard so far are not doing anything for me. I'm happily planning on keeping my V2s. I'll see if there is anything posted with lower boost settings, as what I've seen so far with the boost is too much for my needs, and I'm totally happy sans boost on the V2.

Damn, how'd no one tell me about RidingEasy Records? This comp starts out with the most badass Seeds song, and I've never heard it before!

Yeah, that's the same guys that did "Pushin' Too Hard". The rest of the comp isn't as great, but what do you want? It starts with the best Seeds song, ever. It's hard to measure up to that.

They release lots of modern stuff too. And they have awesome shirts too. I have one of their "Sabbath Worship" shirts and its one of my faves

I’m sure it’s been discussed elsewhere, but I trust this thread more.

Any difference between V1 and 2. I realize there isn’t supposed to be.

V3 is functionally different enough that, with all respect to Jeff Damnation, I don’t trust it. Heck, I don’t even trust V2.

Nothing musical to report. Wrecked my car Saturday, now have to see if it's fixable or junk. Kaa sad.

I had the same occurrence a couple weeks back. Somehow got totalled. Insurance companies are pulling some weird crap lately and had my truck totalled from barely anything. Agreed that it wasn't anything wicked special, but really was a pal...

No way, first I'm hearing of this! I never was really in the scene here like I was up in Lansing, but I had met him a couple times. Brutal man, keep the torch going, glad there's a tribute going up for him, well deserved!

I dont understand this instrument quite honestly. As I stare at this monstrosity I cant imagine how many flaws it must have, Ive heard of some pretty brutal China builds on just 4 strings but this one would keep a luthier busy for about a month.

Found a cheap Pharaoh clone and got to tweak it a bit today. Not sure if I prefer it to my Swollen Pickle or not, but I'll see how it sounds at volume some time soon. Definitely not as good as my Pharaoh Supreme, but I didn't expect that! So far, it seems that I need more fuzz and pre-gain on the standard vs. the Supreme, which is a bit surprising. My early tests say it will be fuzzier, but slightly less distinct. We'll see what I end up with! Maybe it will end up on my guitar board, where I seem to prefer more gain.

Just got it today, playing with it later!!!
Interested in what you make of it!!

I always read your posts on fuzz and want to try the pharoah supreme....curios how it stacks against my wizard fuzz...

As an aside, in case anyone's interested, my band have released a short preview of our forthcoming album, just incase you fancy 3mins of new music ✌️

Now, that's just silly. Might as well just get a piano.

Duuuude, you're in Gevaudan?!! How did I not know this? Lol. Love you guys. Your guitarist Bruce always seems to show up in our instagram feed with the Iommi riffs. Super rad!
