Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I believe it's an Alpha Omega and a Microtubes sitting on top of the Barefaced cab. But, despite having enough Orange to blast the venue into space, Melvins sounded infinitely better than Boris, especially the guitar. Buzzo was sooooo tight and articulate. And Coady Willis filling in on drums was amazing. The last time I saw Melvins was in Nashville, probably 2010 or 11, and both Coady and Jared (Big Business) were playing with them. I thought that show would be impossible to beat. I was wrong. Last night was spectacular.
Made me laugh cus I had the same thought. I have the equipment to do it right. I just got in a hurry and drilled them all out by hand and that's what you get lol. This is my prototype one for my junction box. I'll fix it in revision 2.
Crunchy. Everyone knows that no matter how bad crunchy is at cutting wood, creamy is even worse.

Headed to Stuttgart today. Excited, but bummed I'm missing out on the Tribute show @br1qbat a work friend of mine are doing, and the Boris and Melvins show Wednesday...gonna see if I can check out some German music stores.
The Boris/Melvins tour…how often do you a see a simpatico tour pairing like that? I unfortunately will miss, due to flipflop scheduling, shows in two different parts of the country that I find myself in throughout the year. But I’ve seen them both on more than one occasion, can’t complain.
I am jealous. I very much miss German music stores. There was a little shop I used to go to when I studied abroad that was amazing. Had all sorts of underground punk/metal memorabilia, and an amazing selection of CDs/DVDs. It was an awesome store that I still think about sometimes, and it's been over 15 years!
If you're referencing instrument stores, I have no experience. I wasn't able to travel with my bass, and I knew that I wouldn't be able to purchase anything like that while I was there, so I stayed away.

Germany has some of my favorite bands. Ophis, Frowning, Urza, Calliophis etc. Would be fn' awesome to see them live.
Germany also has some of my favorites. But I have never heard of a single one you mention! And I love that - it's such a great country for heavy music.
The favorites that come to mind for me are Kreator, Sodom, Destruction, Tankard, and Dew-Scented. Also Blind Guardian, Rammstein, Grave Digger, and Running Wild. Plus plenty of other, smaller bands.
Kreator, Sodom, Destruction and Tankard were some of my heros when I was a teenager and Thrash was all I listened to. The bands I mention are Doom, Death Doom and Funeral Doom. The Europeans are amazingly talented Doom artists, in my opinion they are the finest in the genre.
I know plenty of German metal (and of almost every style), but not really any doom. I'll have to give those a shot one day! Thrash is my "mother-genre". It's where I started, and it will always be home to me. I've gone long stints where I don't listen to much of it, but I always come home.
Thrash is a big part of my musical DNA and the Thrash movement were the best days of my early life, I still enjoy it when I hear it. The Doom genres have a ton of music to offer but I am really picky and tend to attach myself to bands that stand out from the crowd due to originality and talent and the German bands I mentioned definitely nail those categories down. A one man band that blows my mind is The Howling Void from Texas. Dude is punishingly heavy, melodic and therapeutical. Beautiful!, Magic!.

I don't get to see The Melvins and Boris for almost another month. It'd make me sad, but I get that much longer to anticipate it.
I did go see Melt-Banana and Igorrr tonight on what was apparently the first night of the tour, though. Sadly, Igorrr brought two singers, a guitar player and a drummer, but no bassist. It was still a great show, and I had a great time. It was pretty weird watching kids have a slam pit to what amounts to Balkan music at some points.
Ok, fine. Get off my lawn! My pancreas has gone on vacation!

Ah man! I'd forgotten about melt banana - amazing band. Saw them with rolo tomassi years back. Mega awesome. Gonna throw some on now I think!!
I got nothin'. Basement playing is my existence right now. My wife, however, is on an adventure and climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro as I type.

I have barely played lately, just a few minutes a week mostly rehashing my old standbys. Instead, I've been catching up on my reading and am feeling quite accomplished. Finished an anthology of Anglo-Saxon lit the other day, and have now begun Canterbury Tales. Much like my musical tastes, my literary tastes are far from normal. (Because most people don't read this stuff for fun.)
