Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

What up, y'all? I got nothin'. My wife is on her way back from climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, so it will be nice to have her home. she's been in the field for 20 days, including the flight times. However, she's checked off another bucket list climb. Next planned vacation is Japan so she (might) climb Mt. Fuji, and I will go to a sumo tournament.

I haven't been on TB too much, just mostly to sell junk. GOOD LORD the classifieds are flooded with a lot of foo-foo stuff, basses and amps for sale on average of $1500 and up, old-man-yells-at-cloud. And then there's the requisite posts about back-in-my-day-the-drummer-wasn't-loud.

Just from cruising various spots on the web, I think my only reasonable avenue to get another bass is to build a parts mutt. Or, being a smart man, just playing what I have, but, betterer.

Posted this in the DG group as well, but thought you fine folks may have pertinent info to share:

Which of the various DG pedals would be a bit gainier than my trusty B3K? I'm still enjoying the overall tone, and love the modern-ness of it, but I've been trending towards a little bit more grit in my dirt, and this is still fairly clean - even with both drive and blend maxed. The various switches have also been adjusted to taste. I've got the v1 B3K - I found I preferred it to the newer iterations. I've also had the B7KU, and also preferred the standard B3K. So I'm looking for one of the "basic" DG drive pedals. For reference, my current go-to boxes for these tones are the MBD2, the old Ibanez PD7, and to a lesser extent the OKKO Motörbass (it has the grit I like, but not quite the lows).

My gut says Alpha Omicron (or possibly X?), but I figured this would be the place to ask. I doubt the Vintage or Fuzz will work, but who knows. Thanks!

You know the scene in every werewolf movie where they show the guy's hand in front of his face as it agonizingly turns into a werewlof hand? That's what me paws are feeling lke today, sans the cool werewolf part.

How's everyone doing. Just my weekly update. Played our second show ever as a duo this weekend with an out of town band Wailin Storms. Kind of a qotsa esque less sludge more hard Rock band. They played super tight and actually had some pretty good harmonized vocals. I'd recommend checking then out. Only complaint I had was their crowd killer front facing lights. Felt like I needed sunglasses lol.

This was our first show with me playing the bass VI. Everyone said it sounded like we had a bassist. Absolutely full for a two piece so that feels nice. Had a few goof ups as I'm still adjusting to the scale length. Heres our setup from Saturday.

In other news I'm making more progress on my pedalboard. Only getting like 3 to 4 hours a week to work on it so it's kind of slow going.

Here's my board that I use for my metal band, and even for my jazz group.

My band has some doom songs, and I use all these to get a really cool tone, but I'm always open to suggestions.

We mainly play these songs in Drop D form, but both my guitarist and I use Digitech pedals to transpose down.
By itself, the Digitech Drop sounds horrible for bass, so that's why it goes through my SP comp that goes into my Sansamp to mold the sound, which sounds a bit more natural. Live, you can't really tell that it sounds off, I use both my B3k and Red Muck as my dirt pedals, I always have my B3k on since I use its bass boost option.
It's really heavy and I love feeling the power it has. ( I also use my wah -Dunlop Mini bass wah- which I wrapped with copper tape)
