Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

All three pedals came in and I've done a little noodling on all of them but not a lot yet. I got a little black Lerodite mini muff, a little green Rowan analog fuzz, and Satone S804 octave fuzz pedal.

The octave fuzz is pulling ahead for now since it seems to have a little more range in the amount of fuzz and keep a little more low end. They all seem to flub the signal a bit on the low B though. Not sure if that's the pedal, the amp, the signal from the bass, or going in direct.

My amp is an older Fender Rumble 60 and it has an effects loop but I need another cable to make use of it, so I'll pick one up and play around some more.

That looks awesome! I gotta say my mind was a bit blown when I looked up shows in the tri-country, DE-NL-Belgium, area for this weekend.

Im headed that way this week and will have Friday night - Sunday mostly free. Lot of awesome options, then one that I kinda feel like I gotta make - A Place to Bury Strangers is playing SE Netherlands, then right by where I'm staying on Sunday. I'm torn though, as I'm sure there's tons of great acts worth seeing.

I'm also thinking about swinging up to Wilhelmshaven to check out JPTR FX. Chris seems pretty open about having people swing by the shop, I wanna give the Titan 250 a try in person.

I'll be in Stuttgart later this week, then have to hit some plants in Eastern Germany.

@Matt-J2 it could be many things, I don't play low B much. Blend may be one thing, especially if the pedals aren't designed for bass or full frequency in mind. Always worth experimenting for sure. I personally never use effects loops though. Not that they aren't useful, I'm sure some pedals really shine that way.

If the octave if based on a superfuzz, then I totally get why that feels to have the most bass though. Muff styles, you may have to go deep to the bass side of the tone sweep. The BMP tone control is a tilt style (imagine a seesaw in how it operates).

What's weird about that idea is that the "conventional wisdom" is that the fuzz should normally be the first thing in your signal chain after the guitar. Putting one in an effects loop is basically putting it after a preamp.

But then again, music history is basically a list of folks who flouted the conventional wisdom, and were successful as a result. Let us know how you feel about putting the fuzz there.

Wow, I'm jealous. The only time I've been out of the US is on a visit to Canada (and that barely counts). But. my boss had basically demanded I get a passport. So, maybe he'll make a globetrotter out of me.

I've really lucked out, I thought it'd be the same for me. Just some trips through the US and whatnot, then the last minute requests to assist with this or that started rolling in. Then the mudslide, they tell me I need to start training "champions" in every region. I'm game and It's loads of fun, but also sucks for the fam and not at all what I want to miss out on.

Edit: oh and I said send it!!!! After Matt sent out his sale email. Got a monster fuzz coming my way sometime.

I've never used an effects loop because either I didn't have an amp(combo) with a loop, or I didn't have any effects the one time I had a head(that I think had a loop but don't recall for sure).

So I figure I'll give it a try. Pretty sure it won't damage anything. Pretty sure.

In other news, the urge to cut the preamp out of my Ibanez and go full passive is intensifying.

Awesome!! I've been to Antwerp twice as I have family there. Been 15 years though. I love Belgium. Brugges, Brussels, Antwerp, Ostende, all very cool cities.

Not unless you go near the border and the Russians accidentally shoot a missle that lands just inside the border. Putin wouldn't attack Poland if he's going to do anything it will be the Baltic states and after Ukraine/Moldova have been dealt with. Despite the talk the Russians don't have the ability to fight a larger war then the one they are with conventional forces.

@HP Hovercraft Matt some times takes a bit to get them out, especially if you see a bunch of coming soon or special/new production run pedals in the pipeline. However, in 4 years he's yet to not deliver. Hell if you shoot him an email to chat or if you're curious as to where the progress stands, he's normally really good about responding within a couple days.

I give him his space and most of the time let him know when I jump on one of his sales to just ship it with the mystery pedals. He's giving a hell of a deal with those sales and I don't mind throwing him some extra cash while he saves a few bucks on shipping them together.

Paid right away, then that didn't change...odd, though knowing him, he'd just order more parts and extend the batch if the order number went over the 30 he planned for.

Hehehe, I had a similar experience, but mine said 11 slots left before and after I ordered. There's either a delay between the payment site and his site, or he's just manually lowering the number as he gets orders.
