Yep, same. Infact because we just never really got the time to get into the studio enough to put together releases of all our material, our one album is a live show recording. Turned out awesome, but there definitely were some clubs. Best of all one was when I played a whole step off while singing and somehow managed to ad-lib " and I can't play a dawned note right" immediately aftwerward. Right in flow with the vocal melody. I'd call it poetic license haha!
Got nothing new, almost purchased the newer, cheaper Joe dart sbmm bass locally, but just dont have the funds immediately available. If I do, I will pick it up if it's still around. @br1qbat if you're interested, or anyone else in the area for that matter, it's down in ypsi. The guy is legit asking for the same price they were new, instead of the crazy scalper prices.
Well, I guess I lied, I do have some news. I effing love the ace tone fuzz. Blooms in a slightly different way than super fuzzes and the tone is slightly different. Got a EQD Grim Reefer, it's flipping awesome, but I don't think I'll do the thing justice and will probably move it on. Gotta love the anti-scalper prices/deals that can be had on TB from time to time.

Any thoughts on the Fuzz Throne or W&C Tall Font Russian? I'm perhaps receiving one of those in a possible local trade, and am wondering which would best suit my needs. I don't really like high gain fuzz, and I had a Wizard fuzz for a bit, but it was too much for me. My favorites are the BAT Priestess, BAT Pharaoh Supreme, Swollen Pickle, and CMC Effects Russian clones (Bubble Font, Tall Font, & Civil War). I could be just fine with any of those, but of course, more fuzz = better... None of these is set for high gain, and all have a decent amount of mids (if they have a mids control, it's maxed). My concern is that the Fuzz Throne is too gainy, and that the TFR is too scooped. Thoughts?

I 100% concur on the fav fuzz addict. There are lots on the boards, even in this thread that give great info, etc. But your breakdowns really tend to put solid, honestly dare I say concise (contextually), explanations for the realistically semi-greatly minute sonic differences between similar circuits. There is go with run-ons and talking too much.
You put in words what is so hard to describe that which I hear when trying things.

I can't remember what the wizard was based off, but the fuzz throne is a fuzz face IIRC. I can't speak for it specifically, but the FF's I've tried are all really good at cleaning up even when they're gnarly.
I have an EQD one that I set fairly high and roll back if I feel the need. Mine lets a lot more low end through once I get over 2-3 o'clock on the gain. It still doesn't seem like too much gain and I really dig the mids you get from the circuit. It sits in the mix well.
As far as russian muffs and W&C go, I have tried the TF. In my case it was the the troy sanders elephant. In the manual he says it's a part for part identical build. I will say it is slightly more scooped than the box of war I have, I would put it on par with the tri pie muff for the scoop. It has a different center frequency for the scoop than the tri pie though.
Where/what range do you tend to keep the tone knob at on your muffs, which CMC russian ones do you have? I can't recall for the life of me.
Yeah, I have absolutely zero experience with Fuzz Faces... and I don't want or need a new pedal/circuit obsession! I had assumed it was a Muff of some sort. So that helps me decide, as every other fuzz I've tried (which, granted, isn't a ton...) has always fallen to a Muff.
My tone knobs on Muffs are usually around noon to maybe 1:00 - excepting of course if there's a mids knob. Thus far, I pretty much ALWAYS go for max mids. I want a full range tone, so I don't usually like how the Muff can cut/boost frequencies considerably when the tone knob is too far off of noon. It's usually a fine-tuning sort of thing I do with it. I definitely don't want scoop.

Elk/Hizumitas
Civil War
Bubble Font (x2)
Tall Font
I think that's all of them! But the "Russians" - Civil War, Bubble Font, and Tall Font - are the ones that get the most use, both on guitar and bass. They're great for stoner/doom stuff. The other ones are also solid, but a bit more vintage rock flavored to my ears, if that makes sense. Not bad by any stretch, and a worthwhile tone, especially for the price.
All that being said, I'm tempted to scoop up a Ram's Head Pharaoh that's been on Reverb lately. Do I need it? No. Do I love the Pharaoh and enjoy the CMC Ram's Head on bass enough to be interested in what BAT's take would be? Definitely! We'll just see if I can resist the temptation.
And thanks for the kind words regarding my words. Good thing I can put that fancy English degree of mine to use on something as important doom tones!
You are too kind, and unfortunately, I don't see myself trying out too many fuzzes in the near future! I'm pretty set and happy with my current selection, barring a few that are usually out of my price range, or random BAT Pharaoh variants.
I finally corrected one of my regret sales (unfortunately an emergency fund casualty at the time) and got another Hilbish Red Fang Night Destroyer preamp again. Still my favorite bass distortion/fuzz hybrid tone that I have coaxed out of any signal chain.
Also heard Hilbish is getting out of the head/rack mount game and focusing on their pedals. I may have to scoop up one of their 200W heads if I can still get one.

Do you think that's partly because Sunn is bringing back the Beta line and leaning into the nostalgia and used market for the 70's era stuff? I have to imagine it's a difficult business to maintain long term, being so niche anyway, might just be coincidental timing.
On the theme of correcting sales regrets, and Wren & Cuff pedals too, I've been thinking of buying a used W&C Pickle Pie B again. It was my favorite bass fuzz years ago, incredibly flexible even without the blend. I only got rid of it because I had so much custom and boutique stuff that it was superfluous, but I've sold off all my boutique and custom pedals and gone back to a minimalist setup. I can't afford to spend money on gear right now at all, in fact I'm still selling stuff because property and local school tax is coming up soon, but it's been on my mind as my next eventual purchase.

I really don't like Muffs for bass, love it for guitar, but it very easily ends up sounding muddy/mushy when used for bass, seriously lacking definition and articulation, and just ending up in an undefined mush of fizz and mud.
Octave fuzzes is where it is at for me, just about everything based on the Univox Superfuzz, like the Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz, or the Behringer SF300 Super Fuzz clones of it.

I would estimate that it’s 70% Sunn revival (though I have yet to see one of the new Sunns available yet) but probably 30% because of people moving towards pedalboard-based rigs now that high-power pedalboard power amps are an option and running direct is more of the norm. They aren’t discontinuing the Sol Invictus so they still have a footprint.

That may finally rival the versatility of my beloved Pharaoh Supreme... Or probably decimate its versatility. Please keep that away from me - I twiddle knobs enough, and I'd like to play bass some time!
It is. From what I understand, it's a whole lotta muff circuits. And I have no idea what they do. Most of them are labeled the same except for the furthest left set of dip switches. The mini toggles control the clipping and tone bypass.
The guy told me there may be a spreadsheet floating around out there detailing what everything does. I'm gonna keep playing around on my own for a bit. I'm definitely going to take notes.
HEY! Looks familiar…The guy that builds the pedals is hilarious. After going WAAAAAAY past my build time he told me he was waiting on red and blue chickenheads. I said ‘idgaf about that’ and it shipped the next day.
