I got my new strap stuck on the bottom strap pin of my new to me bass, since i have dog walker's elbow and worn off fingertips from sanding bass. bodies i had to break down and use a number 2 philips head to remove the strap pin, the cats thought it was amusing

By the way, Agriculture KILLED it last week. The mix was fantastic. The lead guitar dropped out a couple of times but the sound tech was quick to remedy. They are definitely one of the most exciting bands I've heard/seen in a long time.

Nothing new bass-wise this week, though I'm still impressed by the (relative) versatility of the Russian Pickle. I turned the gain down a good deal and got it to sound like a gainier version of my Pork Loin. I guess that Pork & Pickle pairing makes a lot of sense! (Though I found I preferred their individual versions better because I couldn't get the P&P to work for both on identical settings.) But that Russian Pickle fits in about everything I throw at it except speedy stuff, and even then it's not terrible. I wish there was some sort of Russian Swollen Pickle combo, and I'd love some more tweakability to the circuit.
I may try to learn a song this weekend, if time allows and the lawn doesn't get in the way...

Well, the lawn and the rest of life got in the way. Then, my OCD joined suit. And then, my rapid descent into living TB meme-dom continued...
So I've decided to continue trying and getting rid of a few pedals, as I've slowly been doing the past year or more. Then I can list them locally. Which of course means I have to test out the various pedals to make sure I know which ones are on the chopping block. So I went in with the best of intentions to get rid of a decent amount of stuff.
I started with low gain pedals, which I don't use often, but always keep on hand since they work for so many things. Long story short, I spent over half an hour going between my old Pork Loin, ODB clone, and GK Rails Pedals. Yes, the subtle nuances of low gain drives took my attention for at least 45 minutes today, when I could have been jamming along with fuzz, distortion, etc., and/or learning a new song. I knew I'd be keeping the first two, as they're absolutely my favorites, but I assumed I'd likely part with the Rails. Nope - plugged it in, instantly fell in love again, and am definitely keeping it since it would be impossible to replace. Then, I decided to try out my old Trans-Boost. Haven't touched it in years! Surely, it's going to go, right? Nope. Instantly went from nice, gritty OD, to relatively warm and articulate with just a touch of hair. Played on it in all sorts of relatively low gain tones up to middling heaviness, and they all worked. Mind you, I was jamming along to Amon Amarth, Sabbath, Hypocrisy - all my usual heavy stuff. They all worked beautifully, and NONE of them are leaving now. So I decided to go for the next few tones...
With my recent affinity for the Russian Pickle and simple things, I tried out the CMC Tall Font again, which I previously found to be fairly uninspiring and not "cutting" enough. It was literally in my "sell" pile to debate getting rid of. Now, of course, I'm really digging it... Got it to be pretty similar to the Russian Pickle, but with a bit less scoop and perhaps a bit more clarity overall. Not quite as rough around the edges in the distortion character, but dang it - it's a great smooth bass tone and one my other Muffs can't do as easily. Guess I've got to keep that. Obviously, I've still got my beloved CMC Bubble Fonts too, the CMC Civil War, and the Swollen Pickle will never leave my stable. Not to mention my Priestess and Pharaoh Supreme...
Then came my pile of HM-2s. I was pretty certain some of these were going to go, as I seem to prefer simpler clones. Finally, I was right. Three of these made the chopping block, but one made it because I have an exact duplicate of that pedal, as well as four others that are incredibly minor variations. I'll likely never actually need that pedal, as those other three are essentially identical tones. Two other boutique clones made the "sell" pile as well. But of all of these, NONE were predominantly used on my bass rigs. The bass one - the Arion Metal Master - once again proved to be better than some of my boutique stuff on bass, and is staying. The Bear Amps Heavier Metal is absolutely the best HM-2 I've ever played, and I'll never part with that one.
Finally, I got to my Rats. As usual, as I tweaked, various pedals switched order on my internal "favorites" list. The Volt Thrower clone will never leave, and the Locust Star is right there too, so I expected them to stay. They did. So did the Tremond, which beat out the Locust Star on my board for the moment. I'll test that a bit more at volume tomorrow when I can be louder for a bit. And finally, another Rat made the "sell" list.
All in all, I started with five pedals in the "sell" list. Only two of those pedals stayed in that list, and the other three were kept. I added a few more pedals to that list, but ended up with only four, and even then, they were mostly redundant and for guitar instead of bass. And along the way, I gained an appreciation for low gain drives that I'd lost some time in my bass journey.
TL;DR - While I don't really have too much GAS these days, I'm finding it difficult to stop some low-level hoarding, and really digging low gain drives and fuzzes at the moment. Sign me up for a P bass with flats, tort, fedora, khaki shorts, Hawaiian shirts, and sandals. I think I'm officially ready to join a "dad-rock" band now.

The Slomosa show was phee-nom-inal. A couple of technical issues from the soundboard, but, nothing terrible. And, Marie Moe, is the greatest Rock Goddess of all time.
To be honest, I think a P-style with flats is a great rock "base" tone that allows for a lot of flavoring, via pedals and technique. It really is my normal starting point. But, I'm HIGHLY allergic to clank or zing of any sort, so, take my opinions with a dram of salt.
In the category of "things I should have done ages ago", I sprayed my Pharaoh's footswitch with contact cleaner today, then clicked it a hundred or more times. Seems to be working just fine now. Swear I've tried that before, but whatever. Let's hope it stays fixed, and I can get back to jamming on it for a long while to come.

couple of you liked the 1st version, heres other, simple improvisation, bass big muff and drunken jazz (midi) drummer trying to follow.
So, my son is obsessed with them, which is odd because he was 3. So we went to see them in Sacramento a couple weeks ago on his 4th birthday. We sent them a video on Instagram of my kid at the park saying “I’m going to see Slomosa for my birthday, can they play “horses” earlier?because I might have to go to bed.” So they invited us to sound check to meet the band and they played “horses” just for him for his birthday. They were amazingly kind and their show rocked. My son made it through the whole show so he could hear “horses” again at the end, even though he fell asleep on my shoulder twice.
That is an awesome story!!. There were a couple of small ones at the show I attended, so, I gave their father the thumbs up for making more stoner rock fans.

My son's turning into a big power and classic metal fan. Asks me to turn up Sabbath, Dio, and to listen to Powerwolf and Sabaton. He loves it. Still working on the stoner/doom stuff.
Thus far, the Pharaoh continues to work fine. Forgot how much I love that thing. It just rocks. It's best selling point is also its weakness - it's just your tone but fuzzy. Gotta get to play at volume tomorrow. If not tomorrow, the rest of the weekend is probably too busy. For now, I'm digging my Russian Muffs, but I'm sure I can get the Pharaoh to cover that ground...
