Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Most nervous I was, was for our second set on the big stage at roadburn. Huge crowd and we were playing SWD all the way through, which was also going to be the first time we ever played Doom live.

There were a couple of equipment errors but overall it went really well.

Really once we got the amps going everything just flew by. It was pretty intense.

To briefly revisit the previous discussion, I do know someone who got caught pissing, charged with exposure, and has to register as a sex offender. It's a long way from child porn, or abuse... but sh1t does happen, and sometimes decent people get unnecessarily screwed because a cop didn't want to be reasonable.

American law is ****ed beyond belief. Mentally disabled kid at a local high school was getting severely bullied. He recorded audio one day to show the principal how hr was being treated. The police tried to charge him with felonious wire tapping and eventually found him guilty of disorderly conduct.

I make mistakes all the time, sometimes ill just draw a blank until someone jogs my memory with the first note.

at this show we played last sunday, tried a brand new song but the guitar player stopped the song at the chorus and says, "were just gonna try a different song because someone forgot how to play his instrument", referring to me. I just laughed it off and then turned up.

listening to solo bass tracks during recordings is my nightmare

The OP said the guy only got probation. If there were actual sex going on with a child and the judge didn't put this guy in prison then the judge needs to be disbarred.

I am not defending a sex offender and if it were me I would be out of the band because I wouldn't want my name coming up with this guy's because I am a teacher and that could be really bad for my career. However, this does not mean that the guy had any pictures of children having sex and I really hope he didn't because otherwise the justice system is beyond f'ed up.

Oh by the way the Justice Department website is that for issues of Child Pornography anyone under the age of 18 is considered a child. If the guy was 18 and his 17 year old girl friend gave him a picture, then he is in possession of child porn. The crux of the whole thing to me is that if this was something worse, they guy got convicted how on Earth would he only get probation?

The justice system is really ****ed up... usually in favor of the perpetrators of sexual crimes, not their victims. People get probation for stuff as bad as rape sometimes.

It's pretty disgusting to me how everyone says they hate pedophiles when it's an abstract concept they're talking about, but as soon as the subject of discussion is a dude someone actually knows, people rush to make excuses. A little consistency would be nice.

Solo'd bass recordings usually sound like crap, because there are little fluctuations in timing that really are in response to other stuff going on.

Sometimes at shows I even feel a bit of panic because I don't know what the next part is until I'm actually playing it, at which point I remember.

Check out Geezer's solo tracks from Masters of Reality, they're all on YouTube, it sounds surprisingly "sloppy". Made me feel much better about my recorded bass tracks.

Haha yeah, that happens to me too. I just try to remember to turn off my brain, cuz my fingers remember what to do next.

As far as I am concerned this is some abstract concept. I honestly don't know if this person exists or if some weirdo TB member decided to post the weirdest question he could think of. I don't know the guy and I am not defending him. I also would not be ready to lynch someone (even figuratively) on the tiny bit of information on that thread.

The first time I played live we did 3 covers and an original and no-one noticed I missed the first bar of the chorus in the original twice, despite us recording the event and everyone watching it back together. Kind of a relief but also makes me wonder how much attention people were paying to the bassline I'd written.

My guitarist always refers to my "loose" style whenever I'm jamming under his noodling. This just made me feel a lot better about that :P

Also on the subject of fuzz. I've been looking at cheap kit for a pretty cool fuzz. This one to be precise. Baring in mind I haven't done and soldering for a couple of years. What's the worst that could happen if I **** it up? Apart from the components getting fried. (EDIT: By which I guess I mean, how crappy could it sound?)

Not much can go wrong, the worst that ever happened to me was popping a cap because i put it in backwards. It meant a another trip to radio shack and an extra two bucks. No big deal.
